I think part of your problem is mourning the loss of foods that you can no longer consume. Many of us go through that to a certain extent. Foods with poor nutritional value are readily available and often require no effort to consume. You can buy a doughnut and wolf it down in a minute. A lot of people discover when they go on a healthy diet that most of their food intake was junky carbs. As a nurse I thought was eating a balanced diet until I started adding up all the carbs and, though I wasn't eating doughnuts per say, I was heavy on the starches. I found that I didn't really love true veggies as much as I thought I did when the potatoes, corn, beans were taken out of the mix. Eating a lot of starches was easy for me. Getting in my low glycemic veggies was more challenging. It's easy to fall into the only eating meat mindsset because it's safe but it gets boring quickly. I found that I needed to try new foods and old foods in new ways to be satisfied.

We really need to know what plan you are on. To be honest, if you haven't chosen a plan then that in essence is the key to your problem, You need a formal plan and then you can tweak it. I tend to think that you are not attuned to Atkins and Protein Power but need a more liberal carb diet like South Beach. There is little deprivation on it. No you can't have doughnuts but you can't have them on any healthy diet. Things like this need to be put in the rare treat area if at all. I find that doughnuts make me literally sick now.

If we know what plan you are on we can suggest snacks and other foods to help you.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating eggs nor healthy carbs.

It is all about making a lifestyle change. Weight loss for today, good health for the future. Picking a smart carb diet with foods that you enjoy will make all the difference. I am South Beach oriented. It works because it fits into my overall lifestyle and health needs.

Good luck to you! emoticon Carol

NOTHING is bad IF it works for you. I am sorry but NO PLAN fits every person perfectly. We have to figure out what will fit in OUR life and that we can follow for just that - a lifetime. Otherwise we will be doing the yo yo routine - ie dieting, losing, gaining - rinse repeat.

I don't think there is a right or a wrong way to be low carb. You decide how many carbs you would like to have in a days time and get yourself a nutritional book that lists food values including carbs. If you pick a number say "50" for example and you're not losing, then cut it down a little, or if you are losing too much, add a few more to it.

I'd say to get your carbs from wholesome "real foods" not processed or junk foods.. Veggies, beans if you decide to have those, but the carbs add up fast. Fruits can be worked in, nuts - whatever your choices are.

I try for 30-40 grams carbs a day OR 1200 calories, whichever comes first - given my age, I find it's harder to lose so I do have to be mindful of the total picture too. I don't always have salad or green veggies, I do have fruits sometimes and cottage cheese and sometimes will make a l/c smoothie with half a cup of fruit in it... I try not to get in a rut, but to vary my choices from day to day.

I have that book and love it. It's written by George Stella and he has a website www.stellastyle.com/

You can also find many of his recipes on foodnetwork.com. Just search on George Stella. We had his Knife and Fork Turkey Burgers this weekend served on a bed of chopped romaine. DH loves just about every recipe from George.

Living low carb...a book sold at Amazon might help. You may want to move from one plan to another. I personally am doing my own thing...based on several plans and it is working just fine. I lose about 2 pounds a week!

www.lowcarbfriends.com is another place you ought to check out! LOTS OF IDEAS! It helped me!

My version of cheating is Adkins daybreak bars or sugar free jello. PLEASE If you think it is bad DON'T tell me!!! It's my coping mechanism to PMS!

Doing it again! See my other SP forkitless.

Romans 12: 1-2 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Breathe. Just sounds like you need to do some surfing for ideas on how to expand. Mind you I am not Atkins based but SB/paleo minded but I have found it is just the matter of figuring out what foods you DO like and figuring out how to incorporate them in. Kalyn's Kitchen is a blog site - she is South Beach but her phase 1 recipes would be more in line with closer to Atkins.

I think half the battle for most folks is we get into food ruts. emoticon

There are also websites with great recipes including spark people. Go to the recipes page and search for low carb. You can do that at eatingwell.com and atkins.com too. There are bunches of low carb websites.

My spring breakfast these days is a hash made from chopped up breakfast sausage links tossed with a sliced cheese stick, a chopped up half of an avocado and a chopped small roma tomato. Keeps me filled up until lunch and since we had great weather on Sunday, I grilled the package of sausage to eat during the week. Has been a nice change from eggs.

Ezekial makes a sprouted grain bread that's low glycemic. I'll occasionally make an open face tuna or salmon melt sandwich or even have a piece of toast for breakfast. It can be a challenge to add variety to your diet.

The one-minute muffin recipe on this site is excellent too. There are lots of variations to it as well. I turn the batter into pancakes on weekends and serve it with sauteed berries.

Good luck!

I'm not sure which plan you're following but why don't you check out "The Carbohydrate Addict's Healthy Heart Plan" or the "South Beach" diet plans? Those list all the foods you can eat besides meat and eggs. The main thing is cutting out the junk carbs. But there are veggies, beans, etc you can eat on the plan as well as cheese and foods listed low carb at the grocery stores. Atkins has a book of low carb foods that you can get too ( pocketbook size book), that makes shopping for foods a lot easier.

I am getting very discouraged on this diet and I need help. I am having great luck in losing weight, but I feel as though I'm only eating meat. I know we should get our carbs rom veg but induction is really taking a toll on me. I need ideas for snacks, and what to eat besides meat meat meat. I'm also discouraged on eggs, seems like I'm always wrong when it comes to this diet and I don't know what to do. This is my panic button and I'm pushing it. Help help help!!!
