I get asked the dumbest questions by clerks like, "What do you do with the eggs?" What does anyone do with eggs? LOL. They eat them. I got tired of telling them the same old, same old of how you can use them so now, with a straight face, I tell them that my husband and I are raising chickens - that he fertilizes the eggs and I sit on them until they hatch. LOL. I know, I know, it's terrible but it is interesting to see how people respond. Most older people laugh and a lot of the young kids are so naive they actually believe this and ask other dumb questions like "How long does it take until they hatch?" emoticon

I eat a lot of eggs too - probably a couple dozen a week. I get them from a man that I know who raises his own chickens... So much better than grocery store ones!!

I have to agree with you, Russell and others... I do NOT agree with the way they feed them at Biggest Loser and how they panicked at a little cheese and a little mayo. Ridiculous!!! They should have taken Jared's sandwiches, thrown all the bread out and then made a meal for one. We know Subway (and other places) don't overload their sandwiches with meat... But the bread part just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Bigger buns, less meat and cheese - I guess it's cheaper for them.....

And who exercises so hard for 6-8 hours a day?????? No one that I know!

I love eggs too! I will eat one (eggland's best organic) raw in my whey protein shake. It gives the vanilla taste a big boost. But other than that I only like them scrambled so I scramble them into EVERYTHING!

LOL! I actually have a wire egg basket full of eggs in my fridge. I can easily eat 6 a day when in the mood!

Doing it again! See my other SP forkitless.

I had a similar reaction to the Biggest Loser. I really need to stop watching it--it only makes me mad! I think there was a grand total of a teaspoon of mayo in that dish! And they were freaking out! Seems like if it isn't reduced fat or fat-free, it isn't good for anything. This lower-the-calories/fat at any cost mentality drives me nuts! I'm gonna boil some eggs and make that primal mayo with light olive oil and BACON FAT! Bet that will be one tasty egg salad...

I agree....I don't think they should have deducted points (or whatever measure they used for judging) for the real mayo.

I watched Biggest loser last night, and they all made a dish. The one guy used real mayo, and the Season 12 contestants who were judging started to groan. "Oh no!.. did you say mayo.. FULL fat mayo?!!" LOL. He had grilled pineapple, and baked fish, along with some vegetables, but a few ozs of mayo.. ruined it!! So Subway is good, but 2 ozs of mayo is bad. Yeah, Jared showed up.

I would love an Atkins vs SAD season of Biggest Loser. Let the low carbers work out 30 minutes a day, and the SAD people can do their 6 hours, keep track of calories in, and claories out, and I think the results would be very interesting. Of course the egg salad dish would come in last..lol

To the egg amount.. why do people always comment? If I brought up 14 boxes of Kraft Mac & Cheese, they wouldn't say squat, but anything over a dozen eggs, and they say something like " you own a restaurant? ". At $8 an hour, you aren't getting paid for commentary.. the restaurant I am cooking for is Russell's Kitchen.

Wow, that's a lot of eggs! I thought I ate a lot. I'm still waiting for the guy who my daughter works with to build up his flock so she can bring more eggs home. They're so much better than the ones from the store. I'm contemplating egg salad with homemade mayo...

I come back to check on the responses, and now I am thinking of 4 diced HB eggs, a Tbsp of mayo, 1/4 of an onion diced, and a pinch of garlic. Might even be better with 8 ozs. of chicken, and 2 Tbsp. mayo..lol

I always laugh when I am buying groceries. I have 10 lbs of chicken thighs, and 2-3 dozen eggs... or as my brother says " mamas, and babies ".

I was sure that I ate more eggs than everyone, but not true. Eggs are amazing. I couldn't imagine eating 2 egg whites..lol.

This made me crave some eggs. Went and put some on to boil. emoticon

I eat all the eggs I can get! I love eggs. I prefer pastured or free-range eggs, and will pay the extra price to get them

[... just an aside here: I discovered completely by accident lately (due to having a coupon!) that Eggland's Best brand actually peel. I mean, the shell comes off and leaves the egg behind! awesome.]

Anyway, if I can get locally produced free-range chickens and eggs (and anything else, like meats and veggies too), I will. But I eat so many eggs, I can't resist the prices at the warehouse/membership grocers or the sales in standard grocery chains. I can't claim to be 100% "organic". I've been seen to buy eggs by the whole crate ... and when people ask me what party or special event I'm cooking for, they always give me "the look" when I tell them I just love eggs! There is NEVER a time when I don't have a big zipper-bag full of hard-boiled eggs in the fridge for snacking. I cook with the egg "substitutes" (I don't know why they call them substitutes ... they're real eggs), and I eat plenty of omelets and quiches with those. Indulge your love of eggs. It's another wonderful "perk" of the low-carb lifestyle. Ditch the guilt!

The problem you're struggling with is in listening to the common nutritional "wisdom" that's still being perpetuated to the general public. Most of it has good scientific data refuting it. There's been no correlation between eggs and cholesterol and heart disease. The hype about "healthy grains" is anything but healthy. Soy has been touted as a "miracle food", and its only miracle is in how bad it is turning out to be for us. "Low fat" and the demonization of saturated fats is equally unfounded, so long as you're not also eating a hi-carb diet. Eat good whole foods as nature provided them to us. Try to get pastured and locally produced products. Exercise as a normal life process, not as an artificial stressor. I heard a podcast lately in which some doctors were discussing weight loss and they concluded that exercise contributes virtually nothing to the effort: it DOES have great benefits for your mental balance and outlook, and the look of a toner body is naturally appreciated by all -- but it isn't the basis or even especially necessary for weight loss.

Now go buy some eggs!

I eat 28 eggs a week.. 4 a day.. and as of 1/17.. my cholesterol was 125, my triglycerides were down to 197, but improving, my HDL was above 30 for the first time ever..33, and my LDL went from 80 to 51 in 6 months.

Oh! the dangers of eggs... lol

Other than cholesterol, can anyone think of a reason not to eat eggs?? They are delicious!

If I had to choose between yolks and whites, it would be the yolks every time. That's where all the nutrition is, except maybe protein, It's about time for another batch of Hollandaise sauce. Then I can have Eggs Benedict! An egg sauce for eggs! The only problem is what to use for a base. I guess some kind of veggie would work. I don't worry about raw eggs as long as they're organic or I know where they come from. I wouldn't trust supermarket ones.

I eat lots of eggs. For a long time we all heard eggs=Cholesterol, I recently read an article saying that was not as big a deal as originally thought and that 2 eggs a day would be fine. Of course we can find articles supporting any school of thought. All I know for sure is that I eat lots of eggs and red meat and my cholesterol is fine.

I pasteurize eggs by putting them in 165 degree water for 3.5 minutes. I use them when making mayonnaise for my salad dressing. Never had any issues with them, but I have my own chickens and when they are not laying, I buy from local farmers. Not sure how well I would trust doing this to normal store bought ones.

I eat eggs pretty much daily. If I could get some paseturized ones, I'd put them into a smoothie, but they're hard to find. I read where you could put them into boiling water for just 1-1.5 minutes and that would make them safe, but I find that hard to believe??

I usually go through about at least a dozen or more a week - if I don't have them for breakfast, many times an omelet will be dinner. I use both the yolks and the whites. I LIKE eggs!! I usually cook them over easy and add about an ounce of shredded cheese. Makes a good meal!

I like eggs, too! There's so many ways to fix them and to add veggies to them! YUM! But I use the liquid eggs--using more whites than yellow. That's just a preference, tho.

If you are eating eggs along with bacon and sausage gravy, hashbrowns and biscuits....I would limit them too, but low carb has a whole different issue.

That recommendation of not more than 4 eggs a week is part of the orthodox "nutrition" that wants us to eat a bunch of whole grains. It's also leftover from the days when they thought eggs increased cholesterol because they contain some. That has never been proven, to my knowledge. I highly doubt that dietary cholesterol has any effect on cholesterol whatsoever. I also think that the cholesterol limits they want us to stay below are artificially low, It's the oxidized stuff we need to watch out for. I don't know if there's a way to measure the difference. but I'm gonna find out before I have mine checked in March. And I eat a lot of eggs!

I normally do two eggs..sometimes three in the morning and occasionally one for a snack. Hubby does two/day. So we go thru alot! I use to do just egg whites following that old school nutrition advice but after researching changed back. Both of our cholesterol levels are excellent by the way.

I eat between 7 and 14 a week. My cholesterol is great and they help me control my blood sugar.

Love the low carbing way of eating. I also love eggs. I have them for breakfast more every morning fixed one way or another. This past week I saw on a nutrition program that although eggs are a good source of protein, you should limit yourself to 4 a week. I'm just wondering if anyone else is an egg addict like I am? Do you think on the low carb way of eating we should worry about eating too many eggs? I guess it's just like fat in food and I don't really keep count of the amount of fat I eat? Just wondering what the rest of you do?

Thank you for your suggestions/opinions.

Success to All,
Beth
