We were in our gym one time and a really obese man tried to sit in the seats right behind us and couldn't fit and broke several. The world is just not set up for people this big.

I agree too - I certainly wouldn't sue someone because I was too fat to fit into a seat. I think they did say that White Castle directed the man to other White Castle locations in the city that had maybe tables with chairs as opposed to just booths.. It's too bad that some people always want other people to "fix" their problems. And the point was made that this man was continuing to eat his burgers on a daily basis.............

I would be embarrassed to go into someplace like that, squeeze myself in a booth and then actually sit there and eat 6 or 8 of their burgers and fries............

I agree. There are a lot of obese and overweight people in my area. Sometimes when I go to our shopping center during the day I'm the smallest woman in the store and I'm not small by any means.

I don't see how someone can sue over being too big to fit in the seats because people just get bigger all the time and a business can't be expected to accommodate people this size as it would take up too much room and people of normal weight couldn't use the seats.

Yes, this lawsuit should be embarrasing to the guy that brought it against white castle!

Even going to the mall and places like that anymore, there are so many severely overweight people and obese people, it's said (myself included) -

It seems like there are more overweight people than those of "normal" weight. Now, on TV today I saw where someone wants White Castle hamburgers to make bigger booths because he got to 400 pounds and he eats at White Castle all of the time. We don't have them here, so don't know anything about them - but I guess he'd filed a lawsuit because they had no places where he could sit...... (This was on "The Doctors" this afternoon).

It is sad to see so many of the younger generation addicted to computers
and indoor activities. Getting no sunshine or outdoor fun is a huge factor
in the new obesity problem among the youth and our daily lives.
We should remember to eat low carb and exercise.

People weighing 400 pounds were rare but now you see them in the store all the time when you are out shopping. I blame it mostly on the low fat craze and the lack of exercise in our lives now.

You are so right. The girl in my class was just overweight, not obese.

I love that comment about potatoes... its excellent!

And as for the fat kids thing... I was THE fat girl, now, looking at my childhood photos (mid to lat3 1980's) I was no where near being what is "common-place-fat" these days. its sad.

Yes, Morticia, and on that subject, as kids we never had computers to play on, Ipods, Ipads, video games, etc. We just did it the old fashioned way...go outside and find some kids and run around and play with them. Too much idle time anymore (meaning just sitting).
Yes, if someone was fat in those days, it was unusual, but now they fit in just fine!
I drop my daughter off at school in the morning and she waits for her certain friend to be dropped off and in the time we are waiting, I see so many overweight kids and I just scoff at the parent for letting them sit all the time and not get them out doing things physically!
Sorry for my rambling but I think kids should not have such a rough start in life.

When I was a child we had one or two overweight kids in our class, now the classroom is full of overweight kids.

Thank you for sharing that with us. It's a good reminder that many people ate that way for many years, but they didn't have the persecution and suspicion that we have to deal with now. I grew up during the 70's and I remember that whenever my mom, who had a nice figure and was of normal weight, wanted to lose a few pounds, such as after having another baby, she'd eat hamburger patties and cottage cheese with a lettuce and tomato salad every day for lunch. Her breakfasts were always an egg and a pc of bacon. Her dinners were pretty much traditional (my mom was a June Cleaver, always home, taking care of everyone, and cooking) but she stayed away from the potatoes and corn. She said "how do you think the farmers fatten their hogs?" Potatoes and Corn!

Good common sense and traditional wisdom!

Thanks for sharing. We have always known what we are supposed to eat,
but as Morticia says, we have strayed into this low fat craze.

It's probably how we ate when we were younger before the low fat craze.

Yesterday we had to pop into town, as my boyfriend... who left for texas today... hadn't actually got a suitcase to take his stuff in!

Had a browse round charity shops of course and got a Woman's Own Cook Book from 1964.

Its a really amazing book, has chapters on international cookery, setting up kitchens, buying things like refrigerators!!! Oh my how modern!

But an interesting thing was the section on dieting.

It advocates virtually the diet plan I lost my weight doing!
Lower carb, but not crazy low, higher fat and protein to keep you saited!

It suggests you aim for:

1200 calories a day containing 116g net carbs, 70g protein, 52g fat.

Says to get carbs from fruit and vegetables, not starchy breads or sugar.
Eat plenty of fat because... well... its tasty! and useful in feeling full.
Protein higher to aid metabolism.

Its really interesting to see how we had this knowledge that got forgotten in the dangerous really faddy diets that shortly followed the time this was published.
