I would like to have the Dana Carpender BBQ cookbook but have never seen it in my area. I assume it must not be as good as the others as no one carries it but I would still like to have it.

I wish we had a Marie Callenders here.

Hardly anyone in my area makes mince pie any more. We mostly serve pecan pie for Xmas.

I have some other of Dana Carpenters books as well. Lots of good ideas in them.

Mince pie is probably my seasonal favorite... My Mother used to make it with venison, but haven't had it with real meat in it for years and years. Mostly just the fruits and nuts and I really do like that... And I think I need to have ONE piece of it before the Holidays are over. Guess I'll have to go to Marie Callenders or Wild Plum and order a slice - I wouldn't dare bring home a whole pie, there's no one else here.......... and my friends don't like it either.

Our lunch bunch is going to Marie Callenders next week, maybe I'll have it then.....

In the states there are two kinds of mince pies - the ones made with meat and the ones with nuts. I like the ones with nuts.

Didn't do too well with the sugar yesterday. Had a mince pie at the P&C
end of year and a glass of red wine. I think I should just try and be mindful
at this time of year.

I just received Dana Carpenters "1001 lo carb recipes" today. Haven't had a chance to look at it yet though, except just to thumb through it a bit.

I need to cut out the sugar as well but doubt I will get serious until after the holidays.

I love that the group varies.. from Atkins Induction to people lowering carbs for diabetes management, but it is more about what carbs we ARE eating, instead of how much, and if we broke the rules..lol

Instead of focusing on what we shouldn't be doing, we need to be focusing on what we should be doing.. making the carbs we eat healthy choices.

I hear people on the issue of low carb " disciples "..lol.. funny that someone would attack you for not sticking to their diet..we each need to do what works for us.

I also appreciate
the team members , I also belong to south beach .The information I have gathered
from this team was after my own search for the answers . I have learned . ( example
I found information on low gl , but found out through the teams I needed to search gl
over load as well as the glycemic index ) This team offers understanding, helpful
sujestions, and will put you on the right track when your in error.
sense of humor is so important to me. Well said no one has a sure hold on life, we are all
terminal. life is to be enjoyed . Our health is up most important, If i really want something
not on the way of life plan .( south Beach) for me. I will go ahead and enjoy it , for me i cant
visualize being overwhelm or feeling guilty over a cookie or anything that may upset your diet , I also plan on a treat , since its a plan I am comfortable with it.
once we get down the basics and facts about our plan we can adjust it. I will have sweets and the next day adjust my diet . God Bless

We appreciate all the nice things everyone had to say about the group. It has always been our intention to help everyone and be inclusive. We value every member. We can all learn something new and valuable from each individual. I learn something new every day from the people on sparkpeople. It's a great site.

I'm really glad I found this team. I find I do well with a small carb, protein, veggies and some fat at each meal. It keeps me going and helps me hold through to the next meal. Thanks all!

There for a while, I was on another team for a specific diet. I won't mention the team, but I felt like I couldn't post anything about not being able to follow the diet to the letter. I felt like I wasn't getting any support, just criticism. I have never, ever experienced that on this team or on the South Beach Diet team. That says a lot about our leaders......so thanks! You guys are the best.

Can not agree more with what has been said. This Team is accepting, and well aware that what works for one, may not work for other members.

Can not praise this group enough.

I've been pleased with this team ever since I joined up. Like someone said, it's non-judgemental and the advice is heartfelt and right to the point.

I agree that we all have different plans of choice and/or necessity. We have our quirks and those little things we feel we cannot do without... (even if we should).

It's a great group!!

Me too! This is a great group!

I'm now trying Weight Watchers. Eating fruit has curbed my appetite for junk food while not causing blood sugar spikes. Pretty amazing for me.

Kierae and I both have our diet preferences, just like most people, but we realize that what works for us, taking in our lifestyles and medical conditions, may not work for someone else. I'm a fan of the Atkins Diet but I know I could not personally do it. I'm a fan of vegetarian diets too and was on one in high school but it isn't for me either.

Kierae and I are big fans of tweaking a diet to suit YOUR needs. After all, it will only work it YOU can live with it and make it a way of life. Some people can go their entire lives and never eat another Oreo, others can't.

We don't intend to be the diet police. If you ask for advice we can look at what you are eating and identify where your potential problems are because we know what variables stall weight loss and cause cravings but only you know what you can do. Many diets limit starchy foods but if you are going to require therapy for 10 years because you can't eat mashed potatoes then I recommend that you find a way that you can incorporate a SERVING into your diet occasionally. If someone gives me an ear of Silverqueen corn I'm eating it but I'm not eating 3 ears at a setting nor eating it on a regular basis.

Life is too short to be totally miserable and to constantly live with deprivation. Few people have the resolve to live like that or need to. If you have renal failure and are on diaylsis or are a brittle type one diabetic you better follow your diet to the letter because your life can depend on it. The rest of us can occasionally have a small treat and cut back on calories and carbs in other places plus make sure we get our exercise in.

No, you can't live completely on Blizzards and be healthy but a mini or small Blizzard every once in a while won't harm most people. I had one a couple of weeks ago. I planned for it. Every year I have one small pumpkin pie Blizzard when they are in season and I still came in under my calorie and carb range. And I did not have any problems with hypoglycemia which is one of my medical problems. It's all about balance. This group can help you to find that.

Very eloquently stated - what may be low carb to me, may not qualify as low carb to you. The beauty of this team is that we all realize that carbohydrates tends to be the focus for all of us, no matter what plan is chosen. Whether it be the numbers or the quality/type, we all have to figure out what plan works for us in order to make it a successful lifestyle.

I like living. I have sometimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely miserable, racked with sorrow, but through it all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. Agatha Christie

I just had a member who was wondering if this is a low carb group. It is not though many of our members are on low or lower carb diets. Our members are on all kinds of plans such as Atkins, South Beach, Protein Power, Low Glycemic. Weight Watchers, Paleo, Sonoma, Sugar Busters, The Zone, Vegetarian, etc.

What we share in common is a desire to eat high quality carbs and leave behind the processed sugary ones that cause medical problems and obesity. Often when you choose to eat good carbs and avoid junky carbs your carb levels drop naturally.

Most of us cull foods that obviously are not good nutritional value, foods that nearly every healthy diet culls. These would include traditionally made products like doughnuts, cake, cookies, candy, soda, etc. Foods that are chiefly composed of white flour and sugar. Most of us limit these to special occasions/cheat days or we tweak a recipe to make it healthier. Some of us choose to not eat this kind of carbs at all.

I hope that clarifies for you where you stand in this group. We don't exclude anyone who is making an effort to improve their eating habits.
