A rough calculation for most people is about 2,000 steps to a mile from what I understand; the recommendation for people to get 10,000 steps a day equates to about 5 miles. It's a little more or less depending on your stride, but that's the general guideline. Bodymedia sometimes underestimates actual steps a bit, but it's usually reasonably close based on that. You may need to calibrate it to correct things; realize, too, that treadmills are not always accurate in measuring mileage, either. Hope that helps some.

I log my food on Spark so I can't tell you what I think of the Bodymedia food logging. And I don't use the android app either.

As far as steps for 3 miles. I'm 5' 7 1/2 in" tall and when I calibrated Bodymedia according to their directions, I take a little over 2000 steps per mile. So I'd have to walk about 6300 for 3 miles.

From what I've seen of friends stats, I get the impression that Fitbit greatly over counts steps. I don't know if it's super sensitive to movement or what but I have fitbit online friends that record way out there numbers for steps for the day. I'd have to have walked almost 4 miles to get 8235 steps and I've got long legs.

I use my treadmill and measured courses outside and both my Bodymedia and Spat are consistent with a mile being little over 2000 steps for me. I did calibrate them both and if you haven't done that, things could be off.

Not sure if this helps you at all...but it can at least give you an idea of how things work for me.

I just want help from other BodyMedia FIT users :)

I have a couple ??

SYNC ~ I have the android app with bluetooth for my Galaxy s4, laptop with the body media sync .
I log my FOod on Jillian 360 b/c my subscription is through JM 360. the phone app and the computer site sync online for food but i have to sync via the USB to her site and there is a delay for my calories burned. my ?? is does the Body media food entry program work well? lots of foods to choose from ? sync within a reasonable amt of time? sync via bluetooth for the phone app?

anyway, today I walked on the treadmill for an hour. the fitbit says 8235 right now and my Body media Fit says 3943 steps. that's quite a difference. and all i can say thus far is I think the fitbit is correct since I know I walked 3 miles.

any input would be appreciated. i just linked it to Sparkpeople. I've been on sparkpeople the longest, since 2010. before that I did Jillian Michaels online. which is why I ended up looking at her website again (i liked her food program) and I noticed the Body Media armband would link her Jillian Michaels 360. so for one subscription you get information from JM online plus the Body media information is exactly like my android app, once i sync it to the computer

I've been using Bodymedia for several years and still have over a year left on my subscription. I am also using the Spark Activity Tracker too now because someday I'd like to just use it instead of Bodymedia since I do get a rash from the Bodymedia device. But I'm having a tough time giving up my Bodymedia since I like it so much so I bet I'll wear it for the rest of my subscription (rather than giving it to my husband as I thought I'd do when I bought my SPAT).

With Bodymedia, I can be connected to Everymove and Earndit. SPAT doesn't connect to those two websites. The Fit Pursuit 2014 on Everymove is a fun motivator and things like that make me still want to wear my Bodymedia.

Anyway, I keep an eye on this group so I can motivate folks or answer questions. emoticon

Congratulations on your loss so far! This team is not one of the most active, but it is a good place to come when you have questions and to find others who are using these devices to help them reach their goals. There is also an 'official' team that SparkPeople set up, which if you linked your device to SP, you were probably automatically added to that team. I've been using a Bodybugg and then a BodyMedia Fit for four years now, and I plan to continue using it for quite awhile longer even though I've lost the weight already. It helps me keep my eating in line with my activity level.

The main thing to me is to make sure people are getting connected somewhere here on SparkPeople and finding the resources they need to help them reach their goals. If that's happening, that's what matters, whether it's through this team or others. Thanks for responding!

I'm pretty self motivated so I come to this team to motivate others if possible. Also, I try to answer people's questions if I know the answer.

I do enjoy seeing the accomplishments of others, like the races that you do Denise.

Since there was little to no participation in the weekly challenges, I stopped posting them. That has made me wonder what people want to see going on in this team. Do you find weekly or monthly challenges helpful? Are you just looking to connect with others who use these devices for support? Is this just a place to come when you have questions or problems?

Any and all feedback is welcome. I'm happy to facilitate challenges or whatever you want to see, but I need to know what is going to help you on your journey. For me, the combination of using SparkPeople with a BodyBugg and later a BodyMedia armband was the right one to help me lose weight finally and have some hope of keeping it off. I hope that it will do the same for you.
