I have never worried about the discrepancies, honestly. I figure that none of the sites are 100% accurate but do give me a general enough idea for my purposes. I started tracking food here and prefer the SP food tracker, so that's what I've stayed with and not worried about the differences. Do what works best for you; the syncing is a convenience to use if you want.

I linked my Spark People with my Body Media. However one thing I learned is that it's more accurate to weight the food in grams than to use cups, teaspoons etc. This I got from a dietician and several doctors. But when I plug in the same thing both here and in BMF (as a comparison) the calories are way off. BMF calculates an entire meal like 100 calories more than what Spark does. That can add up after awhile. So I'm afraid I'm going to be unlinking the two accounts and stick with tracking on BMF as I'd rather go with the higher amount of calories and be on the safe side.
Anyone else noticing this?
