This is something I was doing a while back but it got old and it really only works (to me) if you don't have a life. What I would do is rollerset my hair. Then after work and before I worked out--at home-- I rolled my hair again and exercises in the rollers. Every now and again one of the rollers would fall out, but mostly stayed put.

The key is to allow the hair to dry (I air dryed mine but u could also sit under the dryer as well). I usually kept my rollers in overnight and unrolled them before heading off to work.

This lasts about 3 to 4 days. You might even be able to go longer. However, for me, it was pretty tiresome. If I had a late evening or event to attend it was much more difficult.

Right now I'm just pulling my hair back everyday. I don't feel like it looks good, but I'm determined to maintain my workout schedule.

Just the thread that I was looking for! My hair is currently braided and I haven't had a relaxer since last Novemeber but I'm strongly thinking about getting one in August! I miss those nice haircuts but I also workout alot too and of course sweat alot in my hair and my scalp tends to get really dirty. Thanks for the tips ladies and if I think of anything I will most defintely post!

No it doesn't smell bad if you've used a really good smelling shampoo and conditioner. But can't go longer than a week and then it will smell etc etc. You can fill in the etc's. LOL

SSPARROW1,

I had to laugh at your post, and yes it does sound really gross. I've done something similar to this before and surprisingly it doesn't make my hair smell bad.

What I do is wrap it while it's sweaty or wrap it before I work out. Sounds gross but I only wash it once a week so to lay it down I use the sweat rather than water as moisture.

Hello ladies,

Like all of you it is a challenge working out with relaxed hair! I have opted to grow my hair out to BSL-bra strap length! I just pull my hair up and back with a hair clip. It helps it not get so wet and itchy.

My hair is really thin (especially around the hairline) so my problems aren't as noticeable as yours. However, I still know what you are going through. As other suggested, wrapping my hair did not work for me because I would sweat so much that it REFUSED to lie flat. I didn't want to flat iron recently dried sweaty hair. So like some suggested, I pulled it back into a ponytail (not the best alternative for someone with a thin hairline). I do not work in corporate America, but I have a very corporate image. I have several buns that I clip on when I am having a "bad" hair day.

Swarmbrunn,
I have the same issue as you but my hair issues start surfacing around the 4th week after a relaxer.

TOYBURTON,
What is is about the sew-in that works for you? I've never tried it and really would like to if its a better alternative. I have a busy schedule and have to look professional at work. I don't want to have to choose between being healthy and looking good. HELP!

I wrap mine, or put an octupus clip in. I do however wash my hair every 5 days no matter what. Gotta get that sweat off your scalp.

I used to have the same problem and i just washed my hair blow dried it and flat ironed it when i got home but that is not really realistic for me so i just go to the salon more often or flat iron my roots afterward because there really is nothing more you can do. I use this product called straight gaurd from CHI before i blow dry my hair it kind of helps keep your hair straight when you work out but if your sweating hard nothing will really help. emoticon

Hi Ladies!!! I just started working out but I have been dancing with my girlfriends company for about 2 years now. When I started my hair was down to my soulders. I used to pin curl my hair when I was practicing. It made my hairstyle last a lot longer. I recently (October '07) cut all my hair off and I must say that I love it and suprisingly to most people it is much easier to manage. When it is too sweaty to keep the style cute, I wash it and wrap it. The next day I pick a few pieces and flip them and keep it moving. When I don't feel like doing that, I wash it and put some conditioner and Paul Mitchell's super sculpt in it. It gives me the wet look without my hair being wet. So much easier than long hair that I would have to try and flat iron and all that stuff.

Exactly, my suggestion also. Whether your hair is long or short, you can wrap it, tie a scarf around it and go on about your business.

When I had mine relaxed I used to put it in a ponytail when I went to the gym, as D001361 says.

You should wrap your hair while you work our or put it in pony tail, so that you keep your roots flat.

I need tips on working out with a relaxer...

The first weeks after a fresh relaxer working out is not a problem but when I get into the 5th and 6th wk(with alot of new growth) it is a mess all that new growth puffs out and it is not corporate world ready the next day.

I was thinking maybe not to wait so long in between relaxers or if there was a better way

Help it is hard enough in the corporate world without my head looking crazy
