I finally finished green tomato pickles. Next I hope to do chokcherry jelly. I've never done it. I will boil them and then put it through cheesecloth. I will let it sit overnight. See what happens.

In the past 24 hours I have put up 24 quarts of unsweetened applesauce and 7 of harvest spiced applesauce!

Some wonderful people from church offered to "let us" glean from their mini-orchard! I have another bushel left to can!!! AHHH! emoticon emoticon

I've never frozen cabbage but I have heard of others doing it. I live alone so I don't have any reason to freeze it. I just need one head of cabbage to make cabbage rolls. I suppose if you chopped it or shredded it for soup it would be fine. Whole leaves I wouldn't.

Meijer- Meijer's is a big chain store in MI, like the Super Walmarts. They have grocery and everything in them. I did end up going to Kroger, GROCERY SHOPPING WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS IN PRESCHOOL. SPENT $73.00 BUT I SAVED $143. YEAH, I LOVE TO SAVE MONEY.

Net- I really wish I could grow things in the winter, but way too cold here. We did have an Indian summer of sorts this past week in the high 60s and 70s but it turned cold this morning, snow will be soon.

I do my apple sauce unsweetened. Then you can always sweeten it up later, or add cinnamon or red hot candies. Also if you are baking you can use the unsweetened apple sauce in place of oil.

I canned some jalapeno jelly, tomatillo salsa, and spaggetti sauce yesterday. Today, I worked on cleaning out the garden some more. I am over run with pumpkins. I haven't decided what to do with them yet... Yesterday I also dried some pears and I hope to can the remaining pears Thursday in to sauce or compote.

I have some not so great apples (you know the ones that are a little bird pecked or whatever) that I know won't last long that I need to cut the bad parts out of and do something with. I'm going to try to make something marvelous with them this afternoon.

Hi!!! If you have a victro strainer or I guess any strainer of that manner, just wash the apples and remove the stem and blossom end. I cubed my apples and cooked them until they were soft. Then I ran them through the strainer and it sepearated the seeds and skin and all I had was the good apple left. I stirred it and canned it that way. I will be doing the pear sauce this way next year.

Also, here is a link for the pumpkin. http://www.stoptheride.net/2007/09/canning
-freezing-pumpkin.html I am going to be freezing mine this year. I do my squash this way, I turn it upside down on a cookie sheet and put a little water on the cookie sheet and it keeps the squash from drying out.
Good Luck!!!!
