Congratulations on a WILDLY successful yard sale!!! That is fantastic!

I took the jars to the ladies during lunch and asked them to price them for me. I was thinking $6 for half pints and $8 for pints, but thought I'd see what they said. They said $8 for half pints and $10 for pints. Needless to say, I didn't put up a fight. They told me to be prepared to bring more. Need to go scouring the stores for more half pint jars ASAP!

I posted a picture of my little jars all dressed up are ready to go!

I used labels from Avery and laser printed them. In Tennessee the laws are very lenient on these things. It depends on where you sell. All they asked was whether I had an animal in the house. I told them just a husband and kids, and they made allowances for them.

emoticon

I am thankful.

Yeah My yard sale is over !!!!
I sold 950.00 of which 240.00 was my canned goods...

Still picking beans and picked my last spaghetti squash...Zukes are still coming in, too.

Jenny, I sell my pints for 5.50 and half pints for 3.50...BUT...I'm only selling pepper mustard, pickles, pepper rings and jams. Pretty normal things.
Yours are Fancier and I think the pricing you picked is perfect. See how it sells and then you can adjust the price as you go.

As for labels, I use address labels and use a ball point pen...But mine are outside at a farmers market. Yours will be inside in a store and you may want to be a tad fancier to get the price you want.
It's great to be able to sell your book and also, some of your canned goods from the recipes in the book.
Do check out your state laws on selling homemade food goods.
There are restrictions on the labels (Ingredients, Your address, etc.) and vendors lisc. and kitchen inspection. Every state is different.
Selling your goods now is a great time. Just in time for the Holidays ! GREAT Gifts....

Thank You all for your prayers for my friend and Jenny's cousin.
You are ALL the emoticon

I used to make up a special basket for Christmas for my cousin every year and every year she'd give me a tin of bought biscuits. I stopped spending the time on her present after a couple of tins of biscuits!!

Thanks everyone... My weekend has been pretty busy, but I DID get the cranberry relish and caponata finished. I am putting labels on top and raffia around the neck in a little bow tie. Still debating about the cost. I'm thinking $6 for the half pints and $8 for the pints. I'll let you know how it goes!

I am thankful.

When you give and receive gifts, has any one felt slighted with your home made Jared presents. How much did they pay for a gift for you the next year. How much is it at the farmers market if they have it or it may be more precious because it is unusual.

When we were estimating the value of the canned items for the school auction, we looked at prices for similar items at nearby famers markets and orchards. Of course, if they are marking your items up, you have to consider a price that allows both of you to get a small profit on the sale. I think a nice sticker would make it look nice.

I know what you mean Jenny, it's hard to put a price on what you have lovingly made at home. It's not only the ingredients, it's also the care and attention and love that you put into each and every bottle.

I don't think you have to make them too fancy, maybe a ribbon or raffia around the top and as long as you don't have chicken scratches for writing just a plain label should do fine. Don't forget to factor in the bottles and jars and what it would take to replace them!!

HELP!

I accidently sold 24 jars of relish today when I went to the Women's Exchange to drop off some cookbooks!

How fancy do you make your jars to sell? Do you put raffia on them or just leave them plain. Do you put labels on them, or just write on them with Sharpies.

I sold 12 half pints of cranberry relish, 6 pints of chow chow (and was told to be prepared to bring 12), and 6 half-pints of capanata. I think I have everything already made except the cranberry relish (only about 5 jars of those in my stores.)

I went in there to sell books. They wanted to keep the book to put before their committee, but ordered the relishes on the spot. I am tickled, excited, happy, and terrified. Clueless about pricing and packaging.

I fine mess I've gotten myself into this time, Watson! Any advice from those who market their wares would be very appreciated!

emoticon emoticon

I am thankful.

Patti, that is awesome on the sale of your canned goods! My friend and I contributed a dozen jars of canned goods to our girls' school auction. It was the first silent auction item to meet its valued price and be sold. We were excited as it raised $75 for the school.

I'm super tired tonight, cut the apple and apricot tree down to a more manageable size, now I'll be able to cover the things to stop the cockatoos eating all the fruit.

I was going to put my eggplant and tomatoes in but by the time I'd done the trees I'd had it.

I'd love to have an olive tree, but alas it means one more tree I have to cover and I don't think my patience would last that long!!

That is good to know. My husband asked if I could just can the apples instead of making applesauce. I found a recipe, but it didn't include any spices. I think I will add cinnamon to the hot pack.

Hope all are doing well. I hope to can some apple sauce this year too. I don't have enough space in the freezer to make pies and freeze them. So, I might try canning the pie filling. I always think that looks soooo cool!!

I usually stew the apples and bottle them that way, that way I can always make them into applesauce or mix them with Rhubarb etc or put them in cakes and desserts.

I'll be looking forward to seeing the book Jenny.

BTW you are like me I end up using everything when I do fruit.

Bebop - applesauce is always a winner! I follow the recipe in the Ball Blue Book, but add more spices... nutmeg, cinnamon, a little allspice, and ground clove, and perhaps brown sugar, depending upon how sweet or tart the apples may be. I also make juice from the peelings and cores for either the kids to drink or to make jelly.
-Jennifer

I am thankful.

Hello everyone!

Just picked up a half bushel of apples. Don't have time this week, but will plan on cooking up a batch of applesauce to can next week. First time doing it, so I have to investigate best way to do it. Time to look up the recipes listed here!

Hey Y'All!!! Thank you for the Happy Birthday. It was a very happy birthday. It was an extremely busy birthday with a house guest and getting I Can Can Relishes loaded onto Kindle and the paper version off to the printers for the proof copy. My husband gave me a Sun Oven solar cooker for my birthday (and yes, that's what I wanted for you that would have much preferred jewelry or a day at the spa.) I am very excited about the sun oven and looking forward to having this current weather system pass so we have a sunny day so I can use it!

The new canning book is available on Kindle for 99c until the end of this week, but I will be happy to send you an electronic gift copy if you Sparkmail me your email address. Don't worry if you don't have a Kindle, there is a Kindle Reader App for everything electronic but your microwave. My Spark sisters are such a great source of encouragement. AND there are recipes in there by Patti and Juleen!!! I am so happy that we have immortalized our friendship.

With my vacation, intense book writing and recipe testing, and birthday celebrations, I have managed to gain back 7 of the 9 pounds I had lost. :-( I've got to get myself motivated to eating right while I write about eating.

Blessings to you all!!!

Jennifer Shambrook

I am thankful.

It's been a lousy day here today, everytime the sun comes out and I go to go out it starts raining again.

I'll be glad when we get some warmer weather here, this rain and cold is really annoying me

Peace and long life - Jules
