Of course you did Patti, you're like me, you investigate everything before you take it. I always say you're in control of your health so it's a good idea to check things.

Apparently Leviquin can affect the muscles and tendons, so be careful Patti don't do any overly energetic exercise.

It's common to lose your hearing during and after a cold or bacterial infection.

My mouth is watering Jules !!!

Volunteering again today and the volunteer appreciation luncheon is tomorrow.
I called the Dr. as I still can't hear and am still congested, even after the antibiotics !!!
He's referring me to an ENT. I'm waiting for the referral group to contact me to make an appointment.

Well I cooked the "Porchetta" and it is beautiful. That herb and salt rub is just great, it'd be really good for other roasts as well. The crackling didn't crackle very much, it never does inside the electric oven, so I used the butane blow torch (the one they use in the kitchen) to crackle up the skin. I used a half pork loin @4 - 5 lbs and I cooked it exactly the way the recipe said. Will definitely be doing it again.

I woke up at 3.30am this morning and couldn't get back to sleep no matter what I did. I've been behind like the cats tail all day, I think I need to get to bed early again and try to make up on my sleep.

Not much is going on here. I finished the hooking part on this new rug. I may meet the deadline of Saturday after all. I'm binding today and tomorrow will block it if we don't do our monthly shopping tomorrow. Not much on the meals...ate leftovers. I did make some baked beans to go with it.

I made a Eggplant and Zucchini gratin last night along with some of my tomatoes, it was really nice, I had leftovers and I think they would be great chopped and added to pasta, so it looks like I've got another meal out of it!!

Dog tired here today, I've been on the go all day with doctors, shopping and loads of other stuff, so I'm hoping for an early night.

We cook our pork roasts that long as well. And cooked on wood heat adds that smoke flavor. A small roast is not enough to fire up our big smoker. And Patti your potato salad sounds yummy. Today we grilled chicken and picked our asparagus down to the ground since we are due freeze tonight. I just hope we get more after this spell is over.

Well, I got the smoker going, thawed and rubbed the roast and smoked it for 8 hrs,,,
It was a loin end roast....
I, also made potato salad with red wine vinegar and olive oil dressing, celery, spring onions and sweet red peppers.
I had asked the neighbors to come over for dinner but they already were cooking.
Thank Goodness they didn't come over !!!
The roast was Dry and the potato salad had to much vinegar.
What a mess !
One good thing is that I had bought myself a wireless thermometer so I don't have to run and check the smoker temp all the time.
I used to use a Thermworks digital thermometer in the chimney of the smoker. But the read out was attached.
This one has a separate readout that fit in your pocket or can be clipped on to you.
It worked perfectly !!!
It's called a Wireless Grilling Temp Meter from Smart Gear and has a 100' range.

Jules that Porchetta recipe sounds Awesome !!!
I'll have to try it after I go to our local butcher to get some belly !!!

Taxes are paid and Easter Baskets are all packed up and on the porch for the Mail girl to pick up....

I've never been a chocolate or sweet person even when I was younger, besides when I was younger I don't remember a lot of chocolate being available, either that or we couldn't afford it. I don't feel deprived that I didn't get any, Steve likes the chocolate from Aldi (so do I too) it has a really nice flavour and doesn't cost the earth, he's been getting a couple of choccy rabbits and eggs everytime we shop there.

I have been picking eggplants and tomatoes this morning and the weather has been damp enough to allow mushroom picking outside. Steve likes wild mushies, but I don't eat anything with bugs in it!!

Pattie I'll post the link for Porchetta here, not sure if it belongs on any of the other threads. You might consider it for your pork roast.

iamafoodblog.com/porchetta-recipe/

It sounds lovely, can't wait for it to marinate so I can cook it.

I bought some large plastic eggs for the DGDs and put candy inside so if they do come they have something to take home if they don't want to hunt eggs or if the weather is bad. I love this time of year.

I'll eat Asparagus but I'm not a huge fan of it, at least not enough to put in a patch.

I've got a loin of Pork in the fridge, I'm going to try to make Porchetta which is an Italian spiced pork roast. I might do it in the hooded BBQ to give it a smokey taste

Patti I think it is because Amazon came up in your name or link but I got it ok. I went ahead and signed in on mine and then typed it in and got it. Yea could be Jules I didn't speak to it nicely too.

Today we cooked a pork roast on our wood grill outside..a big pot of fresh pinto beans (from our garden last year--frozen) and fresh asparagus from our garden. It is amazing the taste of asparagus straight from the garden. We had bought some at the local grocers a few weeks ago and neither of us could eat it...

Well back to my rug hooking.

To Funny !!!!

I had 2 other people that said it didn't work for them either.
They got the book to come up, but it said it wasn't available in their area.
They were both in the US....
?????????????
I emailed them and told them to just put in the title and then it worked.

After being outside nearly all day I was going to make potato waffles with the leftover mashed spuds I had from last night, put the waffle maker on and poof, it cut the safety switch on the board. Now I've been hunting around for a new waffle maker, finally got a sandwich maker that has waffle attachments on it, so it's basically a twofer emoticon

Our garden is planted except for the tomato and pepper plants and the watermelon seeds. Been to town today to get candy for the Easter egg hunt at church . Also picked up some plastic eggs for Miss Molly as she is supposed to come out the 19th to have egg hunt here. Been busy cleaning house and doing laundry today. Hubby went fishing this morning and only caught a few but was enough for our lunch today.

Thanks for the link to that fee canning ebook. The link didn't work right so had to go into my Amazon page and type it in for it to work but got it...thanks so much.

"I don't do windows" well I do really but I laugh when I hear people say that. Mine are a tad grubby as well so I suppose that means I'll have to get off my tuches and get them cleaned.

I was going to do some more Red Onion Relish today along with some Marinated Eggplant, but after the clothes washing and general cleaning I bombed out and had a nap. I suppose there is always tomorrow?

I'm feeling a bit better, but I still can't hear.
This is day 3 of the antibiotics, so I'm hoping I should see some change soon.

Jules, That sure sounds like a Super Pill and of course, they took it off the market !!!
Go Figure !

Barb, bummer on the allergies. I was allergic to just about everything years ago but I took an antigen therapy and I never had problems after that. It was called Lantigen (E I think) and you took it in water and kept it under your tongue for a few minutes. It was fantastic so of course they took it off the market.

Patti, you poor devil, ear infection!! Be careful as you can suffer from seizures sometimes if you can't get the infection and temperature down.

Google Chrome also keeps some of my passwords and will automatically log me in to some sites. I also keep bank stuff in a folder for others to be able use. Norton 360 password protect sometimes chucks a wobbly and goes offline

Jules it is the principle of the thing. We never get extended warranties on anything as it is usually not worth the paper it is printed on. Companies try to figure out how to charge you no matter what. (I'm venting with you)

Patti you poor darling...I hate getting sick. I know this time of year I have to be really careful for sinus infections and deep coughs due to the pollen allergies. But I've been on my steroidal inhaler now for 2 months hoping to ward anything off. But the privet hedge which I'm really allergic to has not bloomed yet so will continue to stay on this inhaler until it finishes blooming. I hate taking antibiotics too as already have enough problems with my digestive system without adding to it.

Well we made the fast trip to Little Rock...2.5hours there and 2.5 hours home...we left a little after 7am and got home around 12:30 so you can see the time we made was good. He did the auto sign in again and once again it didn't sign him in so thankfully he went up to the desk about 5 minutes after signing in to check and they had to redo it for him. But the skin cancer removal was really quick and easy. The doctor said they got most of it when they did the biopsy and it wasn't deep but spread out more so they didn't have to do stitches. And he won't have to go back until October now...They think they got it all so we are both relieved about it.

I read while there and will read some the rest of the day and then decide tomorrow on a new rug. I did put a photo of this one I finished on my blog. Well off to finish tracking.

Hi All... Missed Me ????

Well, I went to the Dr. yesterday and as I already knew, I have a head and chest cold and a double ear infection...I still can't hear.
Hubby had bad hearing due to the many years of working with loud equipment (before disposable ear plugs which he uses all the time now)
He's now turning down the volume on the tv instead of me...To Funny !!!!

Dr. gave me a Super Duper antibiotic that I have to take one 1000mg pill once a day for 10 days.
I sure hope my hearing comes back.
It's to weird...I can hear my heart beat, my breathing just nothing outside my body !!!

Weather had been absolutely beautiful...Really Spring like. Daffodils and tulips are about 6" tall...Hope fully will be in bloom for Easter.

Barb, hope all goes well for your hubby.

Jules and Barb...Back aches or any aches are just NO Fun !!! Hope you both feel better.

Linda, I keep all of my passwords in a binder like phone book.
I add (under the appropriate letter) the name of the website, the date log in was created, my email that goes with that site, the user name and password.
I, also, have Norton 360 and sometimes there are glitches and that binder/phone book, sure comes in handy.
I, also, keep banking, credit card and other info in there so incase anything happens to me, someone will have it all.

Hey Everyone, Jenny has a new Ebook out on Amazon.
I Can Can Ground Meat. It went live today but she will be offering it for Free Tomorrow thru Saturday...
Looks Fun and Interesting.

Fingers crossed Barb for your hubbies spot removal.

I've got a $750.00 bill to pay for my AC/Heater that was repaired a week or so ago. I'm really pissed as the company now says that the capacitor that was stuffed is not warranty related. I've sent him a rude email telling him that apparently nothing is warranty related if it costs too much and of course where he could insert the AC, capacitor and any other part he saw fit.
emoticon emoticon

$750.00 for 8 hours of driving to and from and fixing the damned thing ..... nice money if you can get it. I tell you once bitten twice shy, I'm making sure that if I need repairs for this or anything else, I'll move hell or high water to find someone local. It's not really the cost, I can pay for it no problems, it's just that companies seem to abrogate their responsibilities whenever they see fit.

Jules I can sympathize with the back ache. We have been having storms and it really activates the arthritis. I have to have my pillows just so too. As for passwords I keep mine all in a small notebook by my computer. That way if something happens to me then hubby or one of the kids can get on the computer proper and do things they need to do. I do need to scan more photos and finish that up.

I finished the rug but haven't taken a picture yet. I have spent today reading and will probably do the same tomorrow. We are having storms now and I don't feel like trying to draw up another rug right now. Tomorrow is our trip to the VA for hubby's spot removal.

I have a password program on my Nortons 360 that remembers them for me. I often forget which one goes where.

I've got some more stuff to can, but to be honest I couldn't get out of my own way today. I had a wrestling match with my pillows last night and woke up at 4.00am with a rotten back ache. Now I'll have to try all the pillows in the house to try to fine the right one or I'll end up with another crappy nights sleep

I took yesterday away from the computer. I think doing this every Sunday will help me keep focused more. Was a busy day at church anyway. We had potluck last night. I made peanut butter chocolate balls and then sliced some of our venison summer sausage and different cheeses. It was all gone when we left. We had a visiting church to come in and they ate with us so there was very little food left. Today is gorgeous after a weekend of rain. Have a busy week ahead. Art guild meeting today and going to try to get the rest of the garden planted.

Glad you actually went to bed and rested Patti. If you have a congested chest you need to get to the doctors, you probably have an infection.

They were surprisingly fresh and tasty in a light syrup, Kiwi fruit were another eye opener, I did them in a passionfruit flavoured syrup and they tasted really wonderful

OK So I took everyone's advice...
Rested, actually slept for 2 solid days !!!
Haven't been on SP since the 2nd...other than logging in...
Still very congested, 2 ear infections and a cough. What a mess !!!
I'm NOT a Dr. person but I may have to break down and go...
Thx everyone...

Kay, the glory of preserving is that we can make our own TV dinners and freeze them.
A good stir fry over brown rice, chili, soups, chicken marsala (my fav), just about anything...

As for mangos, the salsa I've had in the past is very good, but your fresh in a light syrup sounds great Jules.

I was putting together storage units today. I'm bone tired at the moment. Our daylight savings finished yesterday so it's black as the ace of spades outside now and it's only 7.30pm.

I need to go to bed, I've got grocery shopping tomorrow.

I'm the same as you, I have a pile of jams and jellies too. I've been using them in puddings, on pavlovas and if you liquify them a little they make a great topping for ice cream, pancakes or waffles.

They really do taste lovely just processed in a light syrup or a flavoured juice, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the info on the mangos. I may try just canning them in light syrup. I think I would like just eating them like this. We have so much jams and jellys that I don't want to make something like that with them. I do have a dehydrator but really don't think I would eat it that way...I may just try one jar and see how it does. I have citric acid so will do that as well. Thanks so much.

Barb I canned Mangoes this year and they were beautiful. Just use a syrup to pack them with or if you prefer a fruit juice of some sort. I did, however, put some citric acid in each bottle just to make sure the acidity was there.

You can also make a mango butter, if you would like the recipe let me know. Do you have a dehydrator? if so you can make a mango leather. Mango salsa is also really nice, here is a link to one made with green mango, but I'm sure you could substitute ripe mango as it has vinegar in it.

nchfp.uga.edu/how/can_salsa/mango_salsa.ht
ml

I also have a recipe for a mango chutney as well if you'd like

I canned black grapes, plums and orange segments today. Tomorrow I'm trying Moroccan Eggplant Jam and perhaps Marinated Eggplant. If I'm not too tired after that I have to make some Caramelized Onion Relish

I need help in what to do with the mangos I bought. Can I can them up? or make jams or salsa or what? So far I'm just eating them.

I too miss our chickens and goats we used to have when younger but really don't want the hassle of taking care of them now. So will just stick with my dogs. I would like a cat but hubby is allergic and our outside dogs would eat it.

Our neighbor across the road does not have cows but percheron horses. They are the great big horses that aren't as big as the clydedales or the Belgians but they are pretty big work horses. I noticed another neighbor has lots of cows but seems no babies..just wondering if he is raising just steers for the meat. Our oldest son plans to raise bulls we think unless he changes his mind.

I miss little animals around the place, it's been years since we had little ones on the hoof.

Kay I start to go to bed and someone comes out and asks me to either look for something, or buy something online and on it goes until I realize I've been sitting on the computer for another hour or so.

Barb I love Crab Apples, although we never seem to be able to get many off the tree with all the parrots we have here eating them. We were supposed to have a miniature one but it's at least 25 feet high, mind you it's been sitting on top of the septic line so it's well fertilized emoticon

Good morning ladies!
Gemini, I hope you are feeling better this morning!!

We had our second calf of the season born yesterday! When we saw it, Mom had just given birth, because she was just starting to clean it up. Rained cats and dogs here last night, with thunderstorms.

I went totally off my nutritional eating yesterday. Had left over pizza for lunch and a tv dinner for Supper. UGH! MUST get back on track today! I think the main problem was, we had pizza for Supper last night, and the last two pieces were calling my name for lunch today, and I had catfish scheduled for Supper, and I wasn't in the mood for catfish. In fact, I wasn't in the mood for anything!! So just said the heck with it and had a tv dinner. Do any of you get like this? It's almost like I've been eating so healthy, my body isn't craving anything. That and I get tired of fixing Supper EVERY night! lol!

Been busy today. We went to the Plant nursery and I got a bunch of succulents for my planters. I think I may get some annuals to go with them to add color. Then we also got an AllRed plum. Ours died 2 summers ago in the heat. We have not been able to find any for some time. The crab apple they had was just the flowering kind so we didn't get one.

What can you do with mangos. I bought a box of 15 and thought about canning or something. Let me know what any of you do with them. Jules i know you do something as have seen you mention them. I love mangos and may wind up just eating them.

I agree with Flower! You need to get some rest! So I'm wondering why I see you still on line an hour after you say you're going back to bed!! lol! Do take care of yourself!!

Well, it did rain here last night. 1/2 inch. So I went out and stood along the outside of the garden area and sprinkled some lettuce and radish seeds on the ground, and stuck in about 20 white onion plants. The peas will just have to wait.

So Glad your brother came home Jules.

And Barb and Kay...so glad you are getting some things done that are fun and productive.

I slept on my recliner last night. I kept coughing and didn't want to wake Jimmy up.
He's gone to work now, so I think I'm going back to bed.

Thanks Barb and Kay, I think he's going to need a word to upstairs this time.

I'd love a mini tractor, might get around to getting one soon, Most of the heavy work is usually done with our hands but we're getting just a bit too old to be doing some of the heavy digging etc that needs to be done.

Let's hope you get your seeds in without any hassles Kay

Jules, I too will pray for your brother!
I've always wanted to be selected for jury duty, but I know I never will be, because my hubby is a retired cop! lol! Seriously, the defense lawyers stay far away with anyone related to law enforcement. :(
I'm so happy today because I got in the tractor and got some stuff DONE today!
And hubby put the tiller on the back of the tractor this evening and tilled up our garden area!!
I mean this new tiller tilled it so fine it's ready to plant!! I ran out the WalMart this evening and bought some seed, PRAYING it won't rain tonight, so I can get some onions, lettuce, radishes and peas planted tomorrow morning!! Soo excited!!

Jules will continue to pray for your brother.

Hubby had jury duty today but wasn't selected. It was a rape trial. He was so happy he didn't have to serve that he went fishing on the lake this afternoon. I finished my hooked Bible carrier I was working on and have started a new rug..this one is a Karen Kahle design that came in my Rug Hooking Magazine.

Over 90F here today and it's the second month of Autumn!!!

My brother came home from hospital today, nearly 4 hours it took those halfwits to discharge him. He's asleep now, I think this turn has knocked him more than he realizes.

Peace and long life - Jules

I had a pickle recipe once that took days. I used the big cucumbers that were too big to really make pickles and you sliced and deseeded and kept them in rings. And once they were finished they tasted like watermelon rind pickles.

Raining here now. Was pretty this morning and birds were going wild outside. We had a bird that we couldn't identify that was singing like a mockingbird. It was brownish red..I thought it was a scarlet tanger as they sing like that but hubby thought it was a brown thrush..and then he thought it was a catbird. But he decided after all it was a brown thrush..I will go to that birds site online and listen to the calls and see.

Your gherkins are a lot like my 9 day sweet pickles. They take days and days and are just wonderful and so worth the work. Enjoy !

Well, I think my cold became full blown over night. At least now it will get over with and go away.

Weather will be in the 50's and 60's this week after 4' of snow yesterday. No wonder I have a cold !!!

Have a Great Week Everyone !!!

Welcome to our New Members !!!
