In Ohio, it snowed this morning for us. The kids had school delays and the ground is totally white...after several days of spring-like weather, this is kinds of a bummer.

We live in NW Missouri. We had a horrible winter. We still have patches of snow where there were drifts.

Welcome to the team MISTYBLUE23!
I'm not sure it is ever going to dry out enough here to plant garden. We should have our early garden in but we have had so much snow & rain that we have had water standing in the yard ever since it the snow melted and we live on a hill.

I am waiting on the ground to dry up enough to till it up & plant my seedling. The cabbages look great.

Have 3 containers of peat pots springing to life - even some hot peppers finally. Put out onion sets and lettuce mix yesterday. Raining again today.

hi Today I joined this team..I have not quit mastered the computer part of spark my computer is slow..I love to garden and can the bounty..I am BC Canada. I am in hope to learn more as no one ever knows it all and all my knowledge comes from sharing. spring is here but temp is still only 4 above C have started a few plants indoors already. I think I should tell you that I use a wheelchair and live independently in my home..I have to share that with you as spark is teaching me to be up front instead of hiding it..which is so easy when on line.

We were beginning to see signs of spring around here. We actually had a couple of days in the 60's and now we have snow again. We are never going to get in the garden!

For those of you who don't know me. I just moved into a new home which has a 12 X 14 greenhouse packed full of junk. I have been torn between trying to put my home together and clean out the greenhouse so I can do something in there. My weather hasn't been cooperating with me. So I work on the house and quilt I have to finish by Friday.
hello, I am new and like you all, cant wait for spring. Our garden is 45X60 and gets bigger every year! We also raise our own strawberrys, blackberrys, blueberrys, grapes, and lots of herbs. We can, freeze or dry everything. My canned goods are getting a little low too, so we are anxious to get started. But you cant plant here in Ohio until after the end of May. Still gonna have a frost at least one more time before then. Heck, probably even one more snow!!

Welcome to the team CRAZYNDNCOOK. Today it looks like the weather might be nice enough to get outside for some clean up. I have been so cold I am having a hard time getting started this year. Have a great weekend everyone. Go get your hands dirty if you weather permits.

A friend gave us a bunch of Jeruselum artichokes. We pickled some, and they are amazingly good. We also mashed some like you would potatoes, and those were good, too. I grated some into a slaw with daikon radish and carrot, also wonderful. We are planting a big patch!
Hi, I am new to this discussion forum, I love gardening in the summer and HWB canning and freezing foods for the winter too. Can't bring myself to do pressure canning.
I can't wait for spring. We have had a very strange winter, not much snow at all, some fairly warm days too. I usually start my seeds near the end of the month and put them out in May.

We have had nice weather the past several days. I would love to get in the garden to work but with all the snow melting the yard & garden is a swamp.

I don't have enough yard to garden, so we too rely on farmers markets and local pick-your-own places. It IS lovely having stuff in the freezer and canned on the shelves throughout the long winter. And I made some fig and black tea jam in early February just to ease that need to can something!

If there was enough hours in my days I would have it all done. Physical therapy, MT, unpacking the new home, taking care of the Grand children, And the everyday stuff like laundry, cooking, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms etc..... All this stuff gets in my way. LOL I will get it done just not now! LOL
I agree, I would love to have greenhouse too. I don't think I would care who's mess it was, I would be cleaning it out & getting those plants started. lol

Welcome Flabsniper, I hope the weather allows you to have an abundant garden this year.
Good for you PHAMM13 for getting those veggies started. I am still trying to clean out a very messed up greenhouse. Since I just moved in to this house and the mess isn't mine I have had a hard time getting started on this project. LOL Have a great day everyone!
Got tomatoes & peppers started this weekend. Set my trays on a small electric blanket (lap size) and draped clear plastic over them. A mini greenhouse!

Hello everyone. I'm new to the group and to canning, etc. I've gardened before but just sold the excess in the front yard. I was going to start canning, etc. last year but the summer was so wet I lost almost everything.
I can't wait to get into the garden this year. I have everything all planned and budgeted but Maine weather seldom cooperates. lol We'll just have to see how the seasons go.

I am so ready for Spring. It has gotten above freezing two days in a row now so our snow is slowly melting. We have a sweet potato in a jar of water sprouting runners for us to plant when warm weather gets here. Can't wait for fresh veggies.

I would love to know how to can green tomatoes for frying. I did can green tomato relish last summer after something ate all my vines off at the ground and I refused to lose my tomatoes. Mostly now I just do sugar free stuff.

Hi PARROTWOMAN, I lived in Corpus Christi for 8 years and the wind blew all the time. Forget about doing your hair! LOL
Dear Lord, I cannot wait until spring. I am so ready to get out in the garden and start working. That is my favorite time of the year. It reminds me so much of my childhood with my grandmother and since is gone, it helps me to feel closer to her. Last year, I think I canned everything from beets to green tomatoes. That has got to be my favorite thing out of the can is green tomatoes for frying. Of course, I can't have them right not but.... sooner or later, I'll let myself have a day off and have some. I am so ready to get this planting season started.

As we get ready for summer here is a product I love and decided to pass on the info in plenty of time to get 1 before summer got here. Pampered Chef ( a home party based kitchen product business, but you can order off the web if you don't know a rep) has a #1114 Kernel Cutter — $7.50 This is the best thing I have found for cutting corn off the cob. I even used mine yesterday to cut some corn off that I had frozen on the cob and now decided to use it in soup. 2 mins in the microwave to just thaw but not heat then cut it off and dumped it into my soup, as good as fresh. Happy gardening.

I have been eating out of my freezer and pantry and waiting on spring. My stock is beginning to look a little low. This was my first year of trying to eat fresh and local so it's interesting to see what I put up enough of and what I didn't. I'm not a grower other than tomatoes so am waiting on spring farmer's market and my csa to start in April. Basically, 6 weeks to go!

Hi all!!! Is it just me or is anyone else ready for Spring. I know it is about a month or so off, but I cannot wait. I am going so stir crazy sitting in the house. I have actually enjoyed shoveling snow, because it gets me outside!!!!
I think for the most part I have what I want to do with my garden all plotted out, and know what I want to plant.
I have been working on quilting this winter. I am working on a Civil War Block of the Month for the 150 anniv of the start of the Civil War.
A friend of the family who lives on the upper east coast was canning this weekend. She was given 3 bushels of tomatoes from a hydroplant ( if that's what you call it to can).
Well have a great day all!!! And hope March is great for us all!!!
