Though I would bring this up top again and talk about the children aspect of it. Where do parents draw the line when it comes to violent video games. I work at a game store and I see the kids walk up to me and want to by GTA 3 san Andreas and I tell them a parent needs to buy it and then I tell the parent what the game contains and they are okay.

Thanks for the comments guys. I was just wondering where the line was drawn for M and AO games. I know that the consoles only sell games that are rated M. AO games are only sold via computer with the exception of the first GTA 4 San Andreas where the first batch were considered AO instead of M. I found out the hard way trying to sell my copy back and the video game store not buying it because it was the rated AO version of the game.

looks like the cutoff is 17 for M games.
http://www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp

I think they also try to make it more of a guidline that only adults should watch and play the game.

But it is a good point. Maybe they should make it 21 or something

I take video games very seriously, in fact yesterday while I was on rescue duty I brought along my Wii remotes in case I needed to be a trauma surgeon on a scene!

Okay I am joking.. parents shouldn't buy M rated games for their kids. Seriously they should be parents and stop trying to make everyone else do the work for them.

Insert something brilliant and fabulous here

I think it is kind of the difference between R and NC17.

I wonder what makes a game become rated AO. Rated M is 18 and over and rated AO is adults only. I though you were an adult when you hit 18? That rating is kind of weird don't you think?

I think the best-sellers being rated 'M' has a lot to do with the fact that most gamers are over 18. People don't realize that, but yes, the median age of a gamer is 33! Much higher than you would expect.
The problem is parents buying these games for their kids. I don't know why games get attacked for violence, when movies are basically the same thing. If parents would do their jobs and PARENT, it wouldn't be an issue. Kids don't need M-rated games, and they don't need R-rated movies.

Yeah not lately right. It is kind of weird because you have Hiliary Clinton saying video game violence is on the rise and that the government should get involved in regulated it. I wish our troops could use the bubble shield like in Halo if gaming violence was realistic.

Wow Anthony. Thanks for the insight about the gaming age. I did not know.

I would not think it is all kids. I think the demoraphics for gaming is different. Gamers over 18 account for over 70 percent according to this site, and other sites talk about a heavy percentage of adult gamers. http://www.theesa.com/facts/gamer_data.php

They say the median age is 33.

Most of the recent best selling games have been rated M. This trend is very disturbing as a parent to know that parents out there buy these game for the kids. I wanted to start this topic to see you comment on this and your opinion of video games and violence going hand in hand. I have played all my life and I am not a violent person so what do politicians know about this topic that we dont.
