It is schedule to be out in 2012. I think it will be November 2012.

Ryan you are right about Nintendo being tight lip about it. We can expect them not to go with same model as the last one. I think they will be coming out with something that is better than 360 and PS3 graphically with I think some use of motion controller but it has to be a system that can use more than just the simple 4 buttons. I am anticipating something even more other there with the new remotes possibly having touch screens built into them. They can not make a mistake of having a cool system but no games for it. They have to appeal to game makers to go out and make the games. Nintendo is not going to get away with gimmicks anymore because I think they burned them out with the Wii and consumers will be more cautious about it this time around.

I just got my XBox last year, which is probably why it doesn't feel that long, haha.

I'm not so sure about OnLive though. Until you mentioned it a while back, I had never heard of it, and I never see any press about it (although that may be my fault - I don't seek anything out but rather let it come to me). So had you not mentioned it, I never would have known about it or cared about it or even considered getting it.

I generally prefer PC gaming, primarily because hubby hogs the TV :)

This is why I'm thinking companies like OnLive are going to thrive. No need to update or buy new equipment; all the hardware is updated on the server end. As someone mentioned, sometimes it is handy to play on the PC, sometimes a console; companies like OnLive make it possible to do either. Playing Just Cause 2 in high-def on my netbook is impressive.

As for the Wii, Nintendo has now CONFIRMED they are coming out with a new console for 2012. They won't confirm much else, but said they will have a playable version to bring to E3 in June. I'm a little nervous they are going to cut out their market by going for a $350-400 system, but they do have to compete somehow.

And you are right, 2014 for a new Xbox is about right. 10 years is a long time compared to the 5 or so years going from Xbox to Xbox 360. The Kinect and new disk format (adding almost 1 gig) will extend it just enough.

I heard that they will be coming out with a Wii 2. What I think XBOX needs to be soon after them with a new console. Maybe a reason why they have been pushing for a new disk format because I know I had isues with having to play mass effect 2 on 2 discs. Sometimes not having the ability for large amounts of data deter a system.

By the time I get the chance to play again the new systems will be out! LOL
With school I just don't have enough time. When I get done with homework and it's not too late I usually load up WOW these days since I already have the laptop sitting in my lap and I don't have to move (yeah, lazy, I know...but I'm usually pretty exhausted by them in my defense!).

While a couple of years ago Nintendo was on top of the console market in terms of unit sales, I believe they needed to make the next generation jump sooner than later to keep up. While I don’t have any personal experience, from what I understand the Wii doesn’t look that great on Hi-Def televisions when compared to the other systems and apart from the niche of motion control games (which is now available in all platforms) they didn’t have much to offer the “serious” gamer.

As for Xbox and Playstation, a 2014 target date isn’t as soon as it might seem. When a company designs a console these days, they are expecting a 10 year life-span before releasing the next generation. While not quite 10 years, 2014 is close for both these systems (9 years for Xbox, 8 years for PS3) and has some room built in for delays. But the truth is that 10 years may be too long if these systems want to compete. Several years ago the PC market was losing ground to the console market because the consoles incorporated the latest technology and looked and played better than most PC’s. However, over the past year, that trend has began to reverse with more and more people turning to back to the PC for their gaming. One of the reasons (but certainly not the only one) is that graphics cards and processors have caught up and are beginning to surpass the consoles. One good example is Dragon Age: Origins. Almost unanimously across the gaming industry the opinion was that the PC version looked better and played better than any of the console versions.

Thanks for the news. I had not heard. I'm also not ready to change up my system, although the concepts you mention sound intriguing.

Uhhhh.... weird. lol I thought they weren't doing next gen consoles for a while? (I guess 3 years qualifies as "a while" in Video Game Land. Oops.)

Looks like the new Wii will be announced in June. Right now, it is under the name, Project Cafe. People are saying it will roll out sometime in 2012. It will be more powerful than both the Xbox 360 and PS3 and feature high-def graphics. The system is supposed to have a new controller, similar to regular consoles, but this controller will have a touch-screen as well. It will also have a camera and some kind of way to interact with both the system and the Wii type controllers.

As for the Xbox 720 and PS4, things are looking like a 2014 release target. Some people are guessing the Kinect will get a controller, but either way, there are supposed to be some major Kinect announcements in June at the E3 conference.

Got to love that pre-E3 speculation. I can't wait to see what rolls out. Should be fun. Has anyone else heard anything?
