As for the disk format, I think it is just for security. Ever since that bootkey incident with the PS3, the folks at MS have bolstered the security. I don't think it would be likely they can do too much via disk size with the lens being the same, but there are some smart folks working there...you never know what is possible.
I'm a firm believer in digital distribution. If I can, I'll get a game via Games on Demand on the Xbox versus the disk. Keeps my shelf clean and it is easy to boot. I especially like what OnLive is doing, where they stream the games similar to the way Netflix streams movies. You don't have to worry about constantly updating your system or making sure you have enough room, because everything is run on their end. I'll have to go make another post about OnLive.
