Wow, Shadoza, I love that line: Games pause; life doesn't.
I would tell new folks not to give up. Sometimes the scale says crazy things even though you are working hard. Wait a number of weeks before thinking about changing things, as some weigh-ins are just flukes and will be back to normal before you know it.

Track your food and track your fitness. It's amazing how many calories we actually eat (more than we think), and it's equally surprising to see how many calories we're actually burning (not quite as many as we think).
Find some good friends to help keep you motivated. Whether they are real people (co-workers, family, friends) or Spark friends, you will have much better luck reaching your goals if you're around people who want you to succeed as much as you do.

I have to agree. Join a team that interests you the most. Don't join multiple teams just because. Stick to the top 3 that you would like to have and be active on the team. What is bad is that people may be welcome you with open arms and your too busy posting on other teams to check the team page frequently.

For this team, I would say: Games pause; life doesn't.
My fastest motivation is to communicate with others. Join teams that interest you. Leave teams that are not satisfying your needs. Dead teams or consistent negativity can kill your momentum.

To find teams you really enjoy that have active challenges. This team, especially, keeps me on track with the quarterly challenges. They are one of my biggest motivations to keep going when I'm tired, sleepy, stressed, bored...all those times when I might eat due to emotions or by habit. I remember I'm on this team and in these challenges and it helps me to fight the desire to eat unhealthily and stay on track.
