I think most of the reasons given here are wishful thinking. And Lobo, FF was not taken from ps3. It went multiplatform with priority release on PS3. (And probably many many discs less) Most games will be doing that from now on... it just isn`t profitable to keep exclusive unless Ms or Sony own the Studio.

#1 - You Won't Find Better Games

I think this was true up to mid 2007. With the 2009 lookout, and the quality of delivery of MGS, LBP, etc, this is not true. The PSN store has a variety of casual type gaming that is not available on Xbox, and the "exclusive downloads" are only for those wishing to dish out the extra cash, but not likely to produce lasting business: 50 million usd is hard to recoup!. Also, multiplatforms don`t play better on either console. They both have their issues and claims by any party as to superiority sound biased.

#2 - You Can Play Friends Online and Download Demos

You can do this on the PSN to... and it does not cost you a Gold membership. Also, PSN does not IP lock content, so if something is available in Japan and you want it from USA, you can get it. If you want a video from UK in Hong Kong from XboxLive, you cannot.

#3 - Its 'Achievements' Will Keep You Motivated

Trophies are basically the same thing, with the PS site having the compare function available web-based as well.

#4 - The Xbox Streams Videos and Music

So does the PS3. Besides the fact that you can upgrade your HDD cheaply to have 500Gb storage, the PS3 has an internet browser, so you can actually watch web-based videos from youtube, megavideo, etc.

#5 - Parents Can Control What Their Kids Do

You can use parental control in your PS3 as well. You can create sub-accounts to your account and give it to your kids and the purchasing, browsing, chat and email history is kept for your review.

If you *think* you can do something, or that you cannot, either way, *you are right*

I have to agree that the best games are on the 360. Exclusive games are what they have been known for. Halo, Gears of War, Fable, and Bioshock for a while. Taking Final Fantasy from Sony was a shot below the belt too. Being the only console to have two full length downloadable content for GTA 4 and the online community is the best even though the price tag is at 50 a year. Netflix is an added bonus to. The only problem i see is the ring of death. Other than that its a great system to have.

We use the can-air on computers. I have to be careful however, I always want to shake it before spraying, which is not a good thing to do. emoticon

I would never trust a "guy at Best Buy"--they just like selling stuff for the most part anyway and (most) really don't know that much.

If it's a dust issue, though, have you tried the can air? You could try squirting some of that in there and see if you can get rid of the dust. (it's just air in an aerosol can).

Hi MommyT!

I've heard about that with the Wii, but haven't had any problems with the Wii (despite dropping it once - eek!)

We've always had the 360 sitting on it's bottom - horizontal. A guy at Best Buy said that it could be a dust issue. (With all of our critters, I'm surprised there isn't pet hair in there!)

Is your console sideways (as in sitting on one end so the disk drive is vertical (longways going up and down))?

We were having a problem with our Wii system doing circle scratches on our Mario Kart Wii disk (it seems to have to spin more for that game than most Wii games). And my brother-in-law said it was because the system was sideways.

Yeah, that's the way it's advertised as being, but during the playing of disks that have to do a lot of spinning there's some wobbling that results in the disk getting scratched. So, we have all of our consoles sitting so that the disk slots are horizontal.

Something to try, if you wish.

Yes, it is better than replacing a gaming disc

Sometimes it causes problems. The game will freeze occasionally, and we'll have to take the disc out and reseat the dskin, but that's a whole lot better than having a buy a new game to replace the ruined disc!

Thanks for replying. Do they cause trouble with the reader on the console at all? I think they are a good idea, but I worry about the "eye" of the reader and the distance between the cover and the lens.

D-skins are disposable plastic protective covers for your CDs. They're advertised for music CDs, but we only use them for our game discs. I believe Gamestop sells them in small tins (5 covers each), but we've found 50 packs at places like Circuit City and Best Buy.

What's a d-skin?

I play Elder Scrolls Oblivion on PC. We also have a copy for the PS3.

I really like the achievements too, but I don't have many, since I was playing games under my hubby's login for the longest time. I've also like some of the xbox arcade games, specifically Carcasonne (don't know why, but the game is very calming to me.)

We splurged on the 360 when Oblivion came out. We haven't had a problem with the red ring, but we do have this annoying issue with the console scratching discs, pretty much ruining them. (Dust issue?) We had to replace our Oblivion disc twice; thankfully, the second time was a day after we bought the replacement new from BB, so we could take it back for a full replacement. Now, as a safety precaution, we use d-skins on any disc that goes into the 360.

We have more games for the xbox than the PS3 (we only have games on PS3 if they are exclusives), but for media, it's definitely the PS3.

So, for games, I'd go for xbox over PS3, but media is PS3 hands-down.

He forgot the one reason not to buy a 360: the red rings of death.

Seriously, the Blu-Ray of PS3 is better in graphic and audio than the 360. Every other reason? Same as on the PlayStation 3. The co-op, parental control, friend chats, game selection, and PS3 has recently announced an achievement system for their own platform.

We have a 360 and a PlayStation 3

I like the achievements feature, and do like the 360 (and most of it's features listed--and especially the variety of games), but I have to say, it's not my favorite for media. We do buy TNA Wrestling when we miss recording an episode from the market, though.

My problems with the media part of the xbox--1, it's too easy to end up at the beginning of the video and you can only forward in very small increments--VERY annoying.

As for streaming video from Netflix's--on our connection it is CRAP quality on the xbox, while it works just fine to stream to the computers. (it's the upscaling to the full screen--the xbox just doesn't render it well.) So, if you have a lower speed on Internet AND want to get a Gold membership just for Netflix's--don't waste your money.

5 Reasons to Buy an Xbox 360 (Not a PS3 or Wii)
Can't decide which video game console to choose? We'll help.
By Eric Qualls, About.com

If you havenít jumped in to the next generation of videogame consoles yet, deciding between the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii can be a challenge. We try to help here with our top five reasons why the Xbox 360 is great for the whole family and why you should buy an Xbox 360 instead of a Wii or PS3. They are all great systems, but the Xbox 360 just does some things better.

#1 - You Won't Find Better Games

Games are the most important aspect when choosing a system, and the Xbox 360 has a wide range of great games representing every genre you can think of. Shooters, racing, RPGs, sports, family games, music, strategy, action, fighting Ė you name it, the Xbox 360 has you covered. If exclusive titles such as Halo 3, Halo Wars, Gears of War 2, Tales of Vesperia, Viva PiŮata, Fable II, Lost Odyssey, or Left 4 Dead arenít enough, multiplatform games (titles that appear on multiple systems) tend to play better on Xbox 360 and some, such as Grand Theft Auto IV, Tomb Raider Underworld, and Fallout 3, offer exclusive downloadable content to extend the game that you wonít find anywhere else. The Xbox 360 has the most games of the best quality in the most genres. Period.

#2 - You Can Play Friends Online and Download Demos

The heart and soul of the Xbox 360 experience is Xbox Live. Not only does it offer silky smooth online gaming and a universal friends list across all games, but you can also download demos for nearly every Xbox 360 game so you can try them before you decide to buy, download Xbox Live Arcade games (which include both classic games as well as brand new titles), chat with friends even if you arenít playing the same game, and much more. You can even check your friendsí status or send them messages from your PC or cell phone. Online play does come with a $50 a year MSRP while other services are free, but there are ways to get it for less. Xbox Live is an optional service that isnít required, but it has so much to offer that it is highly recommended to really get the most out of your Xbox 360.

#3 - Its 'Achievements' Will Keep You Motivated

Our personal favorite feature of the Xbox 360 is Achievements. Achievements are goals programmed into each and every Xbox 360 game that reward you with points when you complete them. The points add up and form your total GamerScore. Does the score really mean anything? No, not really. But it is a fun way to be motivated to win another race or finish a level in a faster time or to seek out a hidden object that you might not normally try to find to earn a few more GS points. Simply put, Achievements help add replay value to games, and in this turbulent economy getting more out of the stuff you already have instead of buying new stuff is always a good idea. Since you can also check your friendsí profiles online or on Xbox Live, it is a nice way to keep track of what everyone is playing and how far along in a game they are. There are also many websites such as 360Voice and TrueAchievements that let you track your Achievements and compare them with people all around the world, which is fun. To get you started on your path to Achivement addiction, we have a list of the Best and Worst Games for Boosting Your Gamerscore.

#4 - The Xbox Streams Videos and Music

Another great feature is that the Xbox 360 is a multimedia entertainment powerhouse. You can stream videos from your PC or put them on a USB thumb drive to watch them on your TV through your Xbox 360. You can stream music from your PC or rip songs to your 360 hard drive so you can listen to any music you want while playing any game. The 360 can upconvert normal DVDs to high-def if you use HDMI cables to connect to your TV. You can also download high definition TV episodes and movies from the Xbox Live Marketplace, and you can even stream movies from Netflix. Not only is the Xbox 360 a great game system, it is a complete entertainment device.

#5 - Parents Can Control What Their Kids Do

This last feature isnít quite as flashy, but for families it can be very important. The Xbox 360 has a full suite of parental control features that allow you to control pretty much everything your kids can do on the system. You can block games above a defined ESRB rating or movies above a defined MPAA rating. You can restrict who your kids can play with on Xbox Live as well as who can talk to/contact them. And the Xbox 360 also has a timer option so you can determine how long your kids can play in a day or even during an entire week. It is impossible to monitor everything your kids are doing, but these features, along with making sure you choose the right games for your kids, make it a little easier.

If You're tired or starting over stop giving up
