Agreed. My ps3 loves me too :)

Hubby`s best friend is an Xbot, so we are planning on buying him a ps3 for Xmas (been saving presents for 2 years lol) to see his reaction. Muhahahaha.

Don, that was so entertaining. True in many areas, but entertaining all the same. I'm sure your PS3 loves you, because they are a loyal lot. emoticon

Oh goodness.. GOODNESS INDEED.

My PS3 is my favorite of my console children... I beat the other two for their insults they have lavished upon me... I suppose I like my PS3 best because it has been the least offending of my consoles. The only issue I've had with it is an updating problem (which is more of my router's fault). Oh and the fact that none of my friends own one of these bad boys cause they are "too expensive".

My 360?... OR SHOULD I SAY MY SECOND 360?! (which is also starting to act up) has found video problems, red ring problems, and if you accidently kick the entertainment stand of 2 tons then you better kiss your disk goodbye.
My Wii? I've never bought so many games before that I've gotten bored of within 10 minutes. What an entertaining concept that must not have been meant for me!

But my PS3.. my dear PS3 is blooming.. I love my Blu-ray and game quality, when given the choice between multiplatforms I gladdly choose my PS3 (for some reason the games are cheaper). But really, I buy its exclusives, LBP, MGS and Killzone are just too wonderful for words. And how I love the PSN games! There are about 4 of them that I am constantly rotating through and still getting a kick out of. But then it is so much CHEAPER than my other systems, without buying extras for it! My bluetooth extras I use with my PC are already workable! Free charger? Free Wifi? Free PSN/Home? Free HDMI? BLU-RAY, again? And.. and .. it works! I dunno, I just like my PS3 the best :) and it better love me too..

I like my other systems when I am in the mood to play, but nothing is more fustrating then not being able to play any games on a system that just seems to break for no reason. RIP 360(s).

I have both the 360 and the PS3... the 360 let me down, the PS3 stepped up. I started out with no bias but actually wanting to like the 360 because the Xbox had been such a great machine compared to the ps2.

* In price, my PS3 was much cheaper than the 360, that does not even have an HDMI cable.
Online community: PSN has the same number of registered users as Xbox, but you cannot meet Xbox users outside of a particular game or if you share details outside of xbox, I like that PSN gives me the choice to go to the Siren or RE lounge, go on a treasure hunt and meet other players with whom I can then launch the game... for free. Also, by playing games, I have found more mature gamers in PSN than in 360, probably because I steer clear of USA.
* The PSN store is more equal across regions. Non US XboxLive is horrible, there is hardly any content or added value, customer service is terrible, and the fee is not worth the money.
* Trophies are, IMO, much better than achievements. I don`t play many games, but the ones I play I play perfectly. Having 5 Platinum trophies says something, having 5000 points doesn`t. Also the fact that trophies unlock you items to put in your HOME studio is quite cool. You can make displays of your game items: I have my Resident Evil figurines and treasure chests lined up with my golden and jeweled scarabs, it`s geeky but cool.
* Exclusives are good on both sides. But I have to say that the likes of Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, LBP, Siren, MGS, NGSigma, upcoming Infamous and GOW 3 give more variety. 360 "giant" exclusives seem to concentrate around shooters, which are not my thing.

I`m on the side of my wallet, in the end, and the PS3 has come out on top because it is more reliable and better value. Their customer support was surprisingly fast and helpful when I needed them, Sony themselves will exchange a game for you if you have an issue, etc.
I still recommend to everyone to get both consoles, so that we can enjoy all good games out there and keep the two companies competing and improving for out benefit.

If you *think* you can do something, or that you cannot, either way, *you are right*

my understanding is that the achievements are different--and I really don't care about PS3 achievements. Yeah, I know I'm lame, but it's okay.

PS3 has online play too and it also has achievements. Fortunately for us, we didn't have to chose, we have both.

I pick the 360 over PS3 because of the achievements. (I don't really play online.)

The only reason I got the PS3 is for the blue ray player since they cost more than a stand alone one at the time I bought it. I just though that I would have a gaming system and blue ray player all in one. However when picking the game to play I would choose the 360 version of it over the PS3 because of the online community. Not to impress with home.

I think ALL PS3's can play PS (original) games, but only SOME can play PS2 games. The PS game run with a "virtual" PS system--as in, it's from software, but the PS2 doesn't have (just) software that can emulate it on the PS3, and the ones that are compatible with PS2 games actually have some PS2 hardware built into them (which is why they cost more--when the price dropped, that was removed).

I checked with Hubby before posting...he says that there was 2 pieces of hardware for PS2 compatibility--when it had both pieces, it was hardware emulated, then it had one piece and software emulation, and then both pieces of hardware was removed and there is no "just" software emulation.

Our PS3 is retro-playing. We can play PS2 and PS games on it. The graphics in HD are breath-taking.

We have a 360 but the PlayStations get used more often.

i'm all for getting a ps3. i didn't read through the article that much but does it play the older system games? i also want to get a Wii, as it's a great family system.. Nintendo has, from what i can remember, been a family gaming system.

The reason we finally got a PS3 is because it was a blu-ray player and we could connect it up to our MythTV pvr system (homemade Tivo for those that are clueless--but much better).

As for the "features" of the PS3--barely used. As for the games, we only have a couple, and they're the "off the beaten path" ones--Little Big Planet and Valkyria Chronicles. As for blu-ray, we have two (came with the system/package deal when we got it)--Spiderman 3 and Ratatouille.

But it does get good use as a DVD player and as a frontend to our MythTV server.

In the spirit of friendly rivalry, the Xbox 360 Guide, the Nintendo Guide, and yours truly have put together a series of articles extolling the virtues and superiority of our consoles over the others.
Of course, all there systems are wonderful and have their unique strengths, but they are very different. Our articles point out the differences of each of our respective consoles and will hopefully help you pick the right one for your gaming and non gaming needs.

I am a bit biased, but it's justified, as we all know the PS3 is the system to have.

5 Reasons to Buy a PlayStation 3 (Not a Wii or Xbox 360)
Can't decide which video game console to choose? We'll help.
By Roger Altizer, About.com

PS3 Console with Sixaxis

Deciding between the PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360 can be a daunting task. While all three systems are vastly superior to the last generation of videogame consoles, they are also far more different from each other than ever before. While I like and own all three systems, I believe there are five things that make the PS3 the best next-generation videogame system to have, over the Xbox 360 or the Wii.
#1 - The PS3 Has Hi-Def/Blu-ray
Let’s get the most obvious feature out there first. Both the Xbox 360 and Wii operate off of older disc technologies, and the PS3 is the only gaming console that offers a Blu-ray high definition disc drive. This plays out to be two distinct advantages for the PS3 -- Blu-ray movies and Blu-ray games. DVDs are on their way out, and Blu-ray is the new standard for video. Blu-ray discs also hold more data, so the PS3 has to use fewer discs for games. Finally, every PS3 supports 1080p video, upconverts regular DVDs to look better on your HDTV, and has an HDMI output (necessary for the highest quality HD signals).

#2 - The PS3 Is Ready Out of the Box, Cheaper to Own
While it is true that the sticker price of the PS3 is higher than the Wii or Xbox 360, it is a feature complete system. Take for example the controllers. All three systems come with wireless controllers, but the PS3’s DualShock 3 is the only one that’s rechargeable out of the box.

Want to get online using your WiFi network? On the Xbox 360, that will require a $100 dollar wireless upgrade kit while on the PS3 and the Wii wireless networking is built in, though the Wii requires you to buy their web browser. Want to play games online? That will require you to purchase an Xbox Live Gold Membership. The cost to play on the PlayStation network? Nada. Want to download new games and video for your console? While it is no problem for the PS3, but you may have to purchase additional storage for some Xbox 360s and Wiis if you plan to download much of anything.

#3 - The PS3 Has Great Games To Satisfy the Mainstream and the More Discerning Gamer
All three systems have a wide variety of wonderful games, and most major American and European games appear on all three systems. But the PlayStation 3 has the support of Japanese developers and online boutique developers that the other two simply don’t have. Sure the Xbox 360 has Halo and the Wii has Mario, but the PS3 has equally good exclusives in Metal Gear Solid 4, God Of War III, LittleBigPlanet, and the greatest driving game ever, Gran Turismo 5.

In addition, consider the unique Japanese and indy titles that only the PS3 gets. From Pixel Junk Monsters, Flow, EveryDay Shooter, The Last Guy, and LocoRoco Cocoreccho!, to software that’s more like interactive art than games, such as Tori-Emaki, Flower, and Linger in Shadows, there are simply odd and wonderful things that exist on the PS3 that don’t on the other systems.

#4 - The PS3 Has Lots of Multimedia and Non-gaming Features
The PS3 can show pictures, play videos, and play music you download from the net, or from a USB device such as a thumb drive or external hard drive as well as streaming from a computer. So does the Xbox 360, but only the PS3 will allow you to stream it to your PlayStation Portable, remotely. This means you can access your media, including Blu-ray discs, on the road using your PSP. The PS3 also supports Linux as an additional operating system, allowing it to be used for a variety of non-gaming purposes.

#5 - Online Gaming Is Free and Easy
All three systems now offer web surfing and the purchasing of games online. Unlike the other two systems, however, online gaming on the PS3 is both easy and free, with no extra fees or complicated friend codes required. The PS3 also offers a unique and free virtual world called Home, where you can chat, hang out and play games with other PS3 owners. Much like the Xbox Live Achievement system, the PS3 has a Trophies system that allows you to earn awards as you play games and compare how you’ve done against other players.

Finally, and perhaps best demonstrating the PS3’s commitment to being a unique device, is Folding@home, a program that allows your PS3 to be used to help Stanford University scientists perform cancer research using your console’s spare computational cycles when you are not gaming.

If you're interested in learning more about the PlayStation 3, I have all of its technical specifications, a gallery of PS3 images, a large collection of reviews, and a variety of other PS3 related information throughout our site.
