I have only had my wii fit for a couple months, but I am using it every couple days as a supplement to all my hiking and walking. I think I will use it even more when I can't be outside as much.

Well when me and my son would do the jogging together I would be huffing and puffing on the long distance runs. Geez I would be breaking a sweat with that one. LOL. Yeah I do not do the step areobic part of the wii balance board anymore because I would like to go at a faster pace than what the beeps tell me to do.

I think you could do most things on the Wii Fit--however stepping (like the steppers that you do aerobics with) may or may not work, depending on how fast or hard you step. Running wouldn't work, because you have to run off of the board and you'll be going fast enough that you'll probably be going too hard and would make noise...but you could probably do everything else.

But that is a small part--and optional--for you to do.

That is a bummer that you can step in your own place. Wii fit should be a good one. There is not a lot of stepping involved on the raised pad. so you maybe able to get by quietly with that.

Sadly, I do not have any friends here that I can do this with. After moving back here several years ago, the only "friends" I have would be "work friends" meaning those that I only mingle with at work...so, great suggestion but it's not feasible for me. :(

I guess I'm going to either have to find something that will allow me to step lightly or ... join a gym.

depends on how loudly you step...I'd say no to the running part of it (not done on the board, anyway--so you'd be running in place on the floor, which would probably be noisy)...most of the stuff you could probably do, except maybe the step aerobics part, but like I said--that would be based on how loudly you end up stepping on it (cuz sometimes it seems to register better when you step harder on it).

Do you have a friend who has a place you can work out? You could take your stuff over there and have a dance off with them.

LOL!!! I'll definitely not be doing that. My poor DDR games and pad will now be collecting dust. :(

So, while on this subject...does Wii Fit also fall under this category? I haven't really read much about it. I'm starting to feel a little blah that I can't do the same stuff I used to do leaving me with little to no options...and before any of you suggest going to the gym, I try to stay away from them because of price mainly. Besides, I love being in the comfort of my own home where I don't have to worry if someone is making jokes about me. Also, outdoor activities will be cut off once snow hits which isn't too far away now. Poo.

Yeah, Don't do the DDR in an appartment!!! When I was living in the dorms someone had an old Nintendo mat/pad and was doing a running type game on it---they were on the 7th floor and I could hear it clearly on the 5th (straight down) and the guy below me (a friend on 4th) could too...so I went up the stairs (they were closer than the elevator until I could figure out where it was at and ask them to stop)...and I also remember hearing a basketball bouncing on the 4th floor from there.

Yourself Fitness is able to be picked up for the 360 & PS2. It is an older game, but is backwards compatible. It bases a workout based off of your current condition and goes from there. Even has some Yoga. You might want to consider that before shelling out the $349 for a Wii and Wii Fit.

LOL yeah they are hard to come by. I stalker called the game stores in my area trying to find a Wii Fit, and then finally found one on-line through Circuit City. Had to buy a bundle though - two of their accessories. There are Wii trackers and Wii fit trackers that tell you when they are in stock at different store on-line. That's what helped me.

I love the Wii Fit. I use it almost everyday. The aerobic exercises are the main thing I use, but I also do some of the yoga and strength trainging as well. The balance games are just fun- I really don't feel like they give a workout at all. I'm not sure about the noise factor. I think its pretty quiet, but I guess it all depends on how hard you step on and off it.
Overall I find it much more motivating than just exercising alone.

Is Wii Fit any good? I only own a PS2 and a 360. Neither one really have any workout type games outside of PS2 and DDR. I'd like to try something new though and jumping around on a DDR pad in my new apt might not be the best thing to do lol. I can hear people when they -walk- around above me so I wouldn't want to know what DDR might bring to the people below me... LOL.

Sorry about your Wii. I had people in the game store come in when I worked there saying they are hearing those funny noises coming from their Wii and you know what it was. The kids put in the disk backwards. So that the data side of the disk was inserted facing outwards instead of inwards and they are like ooooohhhh...

I still use my WiiFit 2 or 3 times a week for all cardio 45 minuteish workouts. I will soon need to wear ankle weights or something while doing it though...the weather is s nice I'm doing mostly fast walks at the moemnt and strength training in circuits. The Wii is still a nice change occasionally and great for when there is bad weather.

pretty much--I mean how many times do we have to explain--"we have degrees in computers, we know what we're doing" "we know better than that"...

Thinking of which--I was trying to pay a bill online--and couldn't figure out why I couldn't select the current day for it. I called them and got some answer like I was supposed to select the day that they actually go to withdraw it and it takes two days for them to do that...and I'm thinking, why can I not just say today, and you all can decide when you want to withdraw the money. The point is "withdraw it on this day or after, because the money will be there by this day"...finally figured out it was past 3 eastern, so it was forcing the "next business day" thing. It just seemed dumb because I was getting a message saying that I was selecting a date that had already past, even though it was still "today".

Ok, that might not make sense...oh, well...but no, I was just picking...I knew you were talking about dumb people's tech help.

I do know that there have been several on the Wii Exercise team that have had disc drive problems, and had to get it fixed by Nintendo--one was straight out of the box, I believe.

DDR is pretty good. The hard levels do throw in more steps, but like Mommy T said, you may stick the easy levels and add extra steps in between. Not sure if the Wii version does this, but other versions count the calories for the extra steps you take.

I've read others that add things like jumping jacks or weights to the workout.

What is nice is that it uses the Gamecube's pad plug-in. You can play Mario's DDR or the Hottest Party. Variety is always nice.

There is another game with a pad coming out that is more mini-games. Like wack-a-mole, etc. The pad is different, but the variety might be nice.

Now you guys are making fun of me.... emoticon ...I just like giving advice...

Yeah, sometimes you get really dumb tech support...like my Hubby got the runaround SO many times on an error message that "doesn't exist"--it was an issue of one little packet of information wasn't being sent or received from the Wii from our house (took it to the IP and it worked)...it just needed a conformation/registration thing and now it's fine.

Also might try laying it on the big side instead of the narrow side. We have a scratched Mario Kart disc--still works, but it has a scratch all the way around it from it spinning and wobbling a bit, so that might help too (after the problem is fixed).

It may still be under warrenty, will have to check that out asap. I wish it was just the eject button but it has to be the disc drive, everytime I press it it makes this horrendous Garbled Growling noise at me and nothing else. Sigh.

Actually it depends on the person about what level is a workout...trust me....it also depends on how much movement you do between steps (if you're in the easier modes).

As for the Wii not ejecting the disc--if you're still in the warranty period, have Nintendo fix it (call the number on the back of any game box). Otherwise, it might be as simple as unjamming the button on the front, or taking off the front panel. Or it could be the disc drive itself, which wouldn't be as easy.

Our little one pulled on a controller cord (Daddy plays Mario Kart with a wired GameCube controller) and pulled it off, so our reset button is jammed (won't pop back out, either) and will reset the game every now and then. They (Nintendo) wanted $50-80 to fix it, when all we have to do is take the cover off and (if we want to) get a new "shell"/casing for it (in different colors, too).

As for working out--it's usually Wii Fit...it's been a while since I've done DDR.

DDR is pretty good if your trying it out at a high intesnity level like hard. easy is too easy. So you can really break a sweat with the higher levels with more steps and speed.

I would love to be using Fit right now, but I dropped my wii the other month while cleaning behind the entertainment system and now it won't eject the disc that was in there at the time. At least it was the DDR that got stuck, so I can still do something active with it. Need to get it fixed soon...

Just wanted to see how many people are still using their video games as work out tools. I know that I was so avid about using them and now here I am gaining most of my weight back by not using them. So shame on me. DDR, Wii Sports, Wii Fit. Are we all still doing these or have we gone to bigger and better things.
