Here is another story that I think seems really fishy. Like the credit card thing where the boy was form different areas I actually saw this on the news and it was in I believe new york. I am starting to think the people just want to instigate stuff.

Report Casts Doubt On GTA IV Related Stabbing
A stabbing reported by the BBC to have occurred by a perpetrator waiting in line for a midnight UK launch of Grand Theft Auto IV may be completely unrelated and the result of "media panic" according to conflicting reports. VNU cites GamesRadar as the source, which credits a GameStation employee who told the outlet that the crime committed against a passer-by "had categorically not pre-ordered the game" and that the victim was not in the store's queue.

Theories abound that drunken pub goers nearby had been the ones getting all stabby. We're not sure who to believe in this case, the BBC (sorry, who?) or some guy who works at GameStation who cracked the case for GamesRadar. It's all so confusing and tangential, but at least we got a fun story out of it! :(

LOL. Glad to hear it`s a fake though... but surprised, why would anyone invent such a silly story?

Confirmed: 13-year-old gamer, hookers story bogus

No arrest has been made

By Josh Ward, GameRush Entertainment

Posted May 15, 2008

A money.co.uk story claiming that a 13-year-old boy was arrested after stealing his father’s credit card and going on a $30,000 spending spree, culminating in playing Halo with two hookers in a Texas motel, has been confirmed as bogus.

“Police said they were alerted to the motel by a concerned delivery clerk, whom after delivering supplies of Dr. Pepper, Fritos and Oreos had been asked by the kids where they could score some chicks and were willing to pay. They explained they had just made a big score at a World of Warcraft tournament and wanted to get some relaxation,” the article read.

“It is a hoax. No arrest has been made. There is no boy by that name (Ralph Hardy) enrolled in the school system,” Chris Cromer of Newark told GameRush Entertainment.

The story continued, “The $1,000 a night girls sensing something up played Halo on the Xbox with the kids, instead of selling their sexual services.”

“Ralph’s ambition is to one day become a politician,” the article concluded.

The dubious content of the story coming from a source that doesn’t cover news wasn’t enough to prevent some sites from picking up on the report, including NEWS.com.au, TV3, G4 TV, and GameSpot.

“Newark doesn’t have hookers, or a motel. We don’t know how the story got started,” Cromer said.

Money.co.uk has yet to respond for comment.

Halo, Hookers & Hoaxes
May 15, 2008

According to money.co.uk, a Texas boy used his dad's credit card to purchase Halo, call girls and a lot more. stuff.co.nz, however, reports that the story is likely a hoax.

According to the original report, 13-year-old Ralph Hardy scammed an extra card on his father's account and took some friends on $30,000 spending binge. The boys wound up in a motel room, playing Halo with a couple of high-priced escorts. From the report:

Police said they were alerted to the motel by a concerned delivery clerk, whom after delivering supplies of Dr Pepper, Fritos and Oreos had been asked by the kids where they could score some chicks and were willing to pay. They explained they had just made a big score at a "World of Warcraft" tournament and wanted to get some relaxation. On noting the boys age the delivery clerk informed the authorities.

The hookers were supposedly released by the police since the boys were more interested in playing Halo than hanky-panky. stuff.co.nz did a bit of follow-up investigation, however, contacting the local Texas police (all the way from New Zealand!):

Newark county police spokeperson Amy Cromer said, "As far as we know, this story is a hoax. There have not been any arrests here, and we're not aware of any convictions like that in this county."

GP: The story certainly sounds like a fake. Besides, everyone knows that only Grand Theft Auto players indulge in hookers.

I didn`t notice that the article had blamed the videogames, I thought it was Lobo`s joke?

I am not satisfied thinking "they could have done worst". 13 year old kids should not know to order prostitutes, regardless of if they want to have sex with them or not, it is sad that they think that money buys you women.

That is not videogames fault, is everything.

Taggy and I were laughing about this. I actually know lots of people with 5 digit credit limits (on a single card) so $30K is actually low to mid end for a high end card (high end Discover, Old AmEx - read Charge card and not credit card)

To be fair, I'm not sure that very many people who have not immersed themselves in the credit industry even know the difference between a charge card and a credit card anymore. To be honest, I just learned very recently myself because I was forcing myself to learn everything I could so I could repair my credit (destroyed after my divorce)

High end cards are not hard to get if you have pristine credit. It could be that the parents are just very responsible with their financial matters (I'll not make any assumptions about their parenting skills)

Taggy and I agree that the credit card company or the businesses may be out this money and that is a shame. Taggy seems to thing that "the child will not be able to sit for at least a week".

We both agree that the 13 year old was a 13 year old. When your idea of a "perfect" night is sitting around playing XBOX with a few friends and some girls... yea - things could have been worse :D

I still don't attribute it to video games and I still think it's the parents responsibility to use the "off" button (At least what I pulled from Obama's comment was that parents need to ask some questions and take some responsibility. But that could me my interpretation and I am still considered an "Undecided" voter at this time)

I wonder if the sensationalist media realizes that by spinning stories such as this, they are glamorizing video game violence and actually making it "cooler" to do this sort of stuff.

Mhm... what he said was very Obama like: content-free. He is not making any statement, simply mentioning the subject in ambiguous terms in what I think is hopes of appealing to both sides: "games are raising our children" to satisfy technophobic parents, "this game is not designed for kids" to satisfy gamers...

I just don`t like the guy, he has no message, he is a walking coca-cola marketing campaign (I`m serious, I went to a marketing seminar some weeks back and they used his campaign as an example of how to sell non-defined products!), and on top of that he has made really racist remarks ("typical white person") and lied openly without hesitation or shame (whole "I wasn`t in that sermon" thing)... I just don`t like him

Way to go Obama for addressing the issue. LOL.

Obama on 'GTA IV'
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Thursday, May 01, 2008 7:40 AM
Even presidential candidate Barack Obama has taken notice of the Grand Theft Auto IV mania that is sweeping the nation. At a recent campaign stop in Indiana, Obama said:

I was just catching the news this morning about Grand Theft Auto, this video game, which is gonna break all records and make goo-gobs of money for whoever designed it. Now, this isn’t intended for kids, although I promise you there are kids who are playing it, but these video games are raising our kids…

Across the board, middle-class, upper-class, working-class kids, they’re spending a huge amount of their time not on their studies, but on entertainment.

And so part of our job is going to have to be to inspire the entire country to say, ‘How are we giving our kids a thirst for knowledge?’ And turning off the TV set, and getting them to be engaged and interested, like their future really does matter on how well they do in school.”

We're not sure what goo-gobs are, but we're happy that Obama is continuing his sensible tact on videogames--note there's no condemnation of the game or games in general. Obama is right: GTA IV is for adults, although we don't feel gaming and a "thirst for knowledge" are mutually exclusive.

I wouldn`t jump to the conclusion that the parents are "rich". Did the article specify where the card was issued? Our "credit" card has no limit on it, because we pay it monthly, and basically we qualify for a very "high end" one because all of my husband`s work expenses go on it and we have corporate backing (buying massive servers, extremely expensive software, international flights and hotels, etc)

I am sure that most of the 30,000 usd was returned, as the hotel fees could not be charged (the hotel cannot legally take a minor without confirming parental approval) and the cash withdrawal by the minor can count as card theft, depending on the company. I know for a fact that American Express will freeze your card even if your spouse uses it, and you do not have to pay it, with the store that accepted the card being held responsible.

I personally think it`s terrible what this kids think is the "ideal night" at the tender age of 13... they should be dreaming about being great directors, tacticians, who knows... but thinking about expensive hotels and escorts? This denounces something really wrong with the material we expose our children to.

well, when our kids turn into teenagers, we'll all have to make sure to lower our credit lines, huh? lol...shesh...I think somebody has earned a good old fashioned butt whoopin', a special Xbox 360 and games yard sell to pay for the credit card, followed by being grounded for life.

Ah, welcome to the negative home equity club my friend. The average price of homes has driven down the value of my house about 25% compared to the day I bought it. Grrrr...

And yeah, my kids seem to be into art too. They are either drawing on the walls with crayons, molding playdough on the screen door, or stuffing misc. items into the carpet fibers. But, one day they too will become teenagers. And yeah, I'm scared.

This makes me glad that the worst my children can basically do is pee on the carpet and eat shoes.

I got a guilty chuckle out of the situation, though. :P

True that. The only way to get a card that high is with maybe a home equity line of credit on a card. Thats the only way I see it reaching that amount. I get those offers all the time and then I have to remind them that I have negative equity in the house now.

You know what is funny? I work for a credit card company, but don't qualify for their card. lol Actually, I think I can get one of their new cards, but still. Yeah, $30,000 is a high limit, but that much in one day is a very high limit.

I actually blame Halo for this. If they would have been playing GTA they would have ordered beers and done other things with those ladies. Halo must have clouded their judgment.

Although something smells fishy about the parents though. $30,000 on a card in one night sounds like a pretty nice card. I know kids can get involved in a bunch of stuff, but this case sounds like rich parents not being involved with their kids.

13 Year-Old Steals Card, Buys Hookers
Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Wednesday, May 14, 2008 4:40 PM
Ralph Hardy, a 13 year-old kid stole his father's credit card and racked up $30,000 worth of debt on it, eventually partying in a hotel room with an XBox 360, Halo 3, a couple of friends, and two hookers. That kid is a flat baller. The kid, from Texas, managed to convince the desk clerk at the hotel that he and a friend had won a World of Warcraft tournament, and that's why they had the money they did. Furthermore, they convinced the same clerk to deliver Fritos and Dr. Pepper to their room.
But it gets better. For this next part, you have to read it the way it was originally reported...
"Asked why he ordered two escorts, Ralph said he thought it was the thing to do when you win a World of Warcraft tournament. They told the suspicious working girls they were people of restricted growth working with a traveling circus, and as State law does not allow those with disabilities to be discriminated against they had no right to refuse them.
The $1,000 a night girls sensing something up played "Halo" on the Xbox with the kids, instead of selling their sexual services."
And then the punch line...
"Ralph's ambition is to one day become a politician."
We are in love with Ralph Hardy.
