Well you aslo have to realized that the developers are having short time spans to get games ready for the ps3 at the same time as xbox360 since they had a year less time out with the ps3. So the graphics are not full HD 1080p and 1080i like they are on XBOX 360. It is also getting riduculus that a game controller cost as much as a game. Geez. Rip off.

That`s really interesting info! Thanks for the post, I doubt I`ll be buying BRdiscs anytime soon, they look gorgeous but I don`t care enough to pay the money.

Developers need to catch up with the ps3 for sure... and its not an easy system to work with.

I'm going to chime back in with 3 more cents of information on this subject.. due to more research.

Well, since the format war is a few steps away from being over, and Sony with it's Blu-Ray being pretty much Victorious all over the place (Except for the fact that now HD-DVDs are practically given away now, while Blu players are still around $300). PS3 will become the system of choice as soon as developers can catch up to speed with it.

If you look at the PS3, which is posed to be the best blu-ray player value on the market today (1.1 profile, with 2.0 profile capabilities.. Yowzas!), and it's price threatening to fall due to the more reliable/smaller/stabiler 45nm chip (resulting in a smaller powersupply), and the development of the smaller blu-ray laser, it could come down another $100 bucks are so this year, along with a new slimmer model.

Also, The PS3 is getting an attachment to allow it DVR capabilities, whereas the Xbox is only an extension to a Media System.

My quick views/Summary:
PS3 is a better entertainment Buy than the Xbox 360, however it has no real list of great games for it right now! If you want to play games buy a 360, if you want a system that will rule in your home theater, get the PS3 in about 8 months.

Yeah, I'm with endlessly on this one. If I had both systems, I would probably go with the 360 due to the achievements.

I own both and must say that my PS3 is a glorified paper weight. Its controller just seems cheap compared to the xbox and it controls worse than the Xbox. Also HIHIHELLOBYE all of my Xbox's have HDMI output. I think the graphics are amazing on the Xbox (bioshock anyone?) and the achievements help you feel like you didn't just waste those 12 hours killing the covenant.

I see a lot of people complained about the 20 mins install for the PS3. It does not bother me, since I can leave that running and do something else.

It also seems (from Xbox forums) that people who chose the Xbox version did so mostly after achievements. I personally found the PS controller to be better suited for this game. I will probably get the Xbox version, since I`m still pissed that I lost all my GS with the last move!

Well I am just giving my two cent on experience and this week when asked which devil may cry version they want for either the ps3 and xbox 360 (to people that have both) they picked the 360 9 out 10 times becuase they were expecting the ps3 to have had 1080 hd resolution output.

Oddly enough, the demos showed no difference with the image, and the PS3 version had "faster" reactions. Admittedly the developers know PS in and out...

Pixie, are the specs on Devil's may Cry 4 better than a 360. Look on the back cover of both of them. Ps3 is only 720p output the 360 is at 1080i and 1080p. I think xbox 360 games are coming out at a higher resolution rate right now. Same goes for the Assassin Creed game too. Blue ray is great but 360 will be making a player for their system too. Who knows. good points though.

I actually did not get my info from the media, but from Microsoft Games Studios. It might be biased, but that is the "feeling" they have about it, thus I said that last I hear, the war was "over".

Statistics can be deceiving: are they talking about blue ray /hddvd players only? If that is the case, are they forgetting about all the people that have Xbox360?

I`m personally tired of format wars. It would be just great if they would stop this conflicting "next gen" issues and put one single thing out on the market, so that I don`t need to hold my breath and see the survivor before I make my investment.

That is very intersting that you mention that. I hear different stats on the subject saying that blue ray dvd sales was 60 percent more than hd-dvd sales. So I think if that case then Sony is not the loser, but actually the winner. I would like to know where you got your information from so I can read it too. I just heard that hd-dvd is losing right now. Who knows.

Last I heard, the format war is considered "over" and Sony is the "loser".

Superior quality does not mean superior appeal, and I think the whole issue was stupid to start with, since 80% of (American) households don`t have a compatible TV that could play any of the next-gen anyways.

I think the money will be made by chinese/korean players that will play both hddvd and BR :)

After talking to people in the video game industry. I found that Microsoft has no love for anyone when it comes to DVD Formats. I would place a really good bet if Blue Ray Comes out winning the Format War then Microsoft will be putting a Blue Ray Drive to attach to the 360.

Yup it would cost more...

Some studios signed exclusivity agreements with Blue Ray, so I am curious to see what happens.

Really a blue ray player cost more than a PS3? I'm not paying more money for movies than what i have to. The only place i binge my money on is video games, its just to expensive to start paying 30 bucks for a blue ray movie when you can get a regular disc for 15 when it first comes out.

Well I think if I am ever in the market for a blue ray dvd player then I will go buy a PS3 because a blue ray player cost more.

I was actually asked this in one of my classes recently and I gave my standard answer.

*Disclaimer: This standard answer was obtained over 13 years as a specialty retail manager and after extensive testing of all video game systems on the market. At one time I owned 13 systems. I have since paired down to 6 (soon to be 8)*

Begin Standard answer (short version):

It really depends on your situation, what you want out of a system and who will be playing it emoticon . Each system is good for it's own reasons.

Just thought I'd put my two cents worth in...well, actually, my sons. Both of them.

My 15 year old has Xbox 360...the best one available.
My 19 year old has the PS3...the best one available.

We have all played on both consoles and find both equally awesome. :-)

The only difference I can tell that makes any difference whatsoever is the amount of games available....and that is soon to change, I believe.

From my viewpoint, the 360 reigns supreme at the moment.

However, I am interested in watching the PS3 over the next year, because set aside graphics for a moment.. BluRay is about 10 seconds away from winning the format war which should pull in even more gaming developers when they see the higher number of sales (in theory). And the added hardware that you get out of the PS3 is a bit more than what you get out of the 360 at the moment. Sony is also notorious for allowing a lower level programming for its games (More work for developers but much more power/options for the game).

Once PS3 titles come out and developers get used to programming for it, I will probably hands down be a PS3 fan.

Until then 360 is my baby.

Uncharted has 1080p, it looked quite amazing, the graphics were really cool.

Right now the selection of XBOX 360 games is vast compared to PS3. However look for 2008 for PS3 to push the games out and sell more consoles.

Also half the games the ps3 has only does 720i/p not sure which but they dont even do what the system is supposed to be good for. Also my tv is 1080i and 1080p capable with all the cables to support HD/ ( i have an obsessed hubby who needs the best of everything). The system is not worth buying yet. Maybe it will redeem itself in the future, but as of now xbox is 100% better.

I wanted to point out about the outputs the XBOX 360 is putting out compared to the PS3. If you go to the video game store and look at the back of Assassin's creed you will see that XBOX 360 is outputting 1080i and 1080p. The PS3 only has 1080i.

I actually like the ps3 controller better (shaking aside) because it is smaller and lighter... which means it won`t hurt my wrists or give me a horde of hand to elbow area problems that the Xbox360 one does. Computers are usually the worst, since very few of us actually bother with ergonomic setting...

I got a couple of Blue Ray DVD and I actually can tell the difference. The tricky part is that it depends on the TV you have, and most households don`t even have 1080i, thus making the whole "quality war" silly

I also own both consoles and even the elite x360. The ps3 Sucks! We dont even use it as a blue ray player, b/c the quality of the the movies are about the same as HD QUALITY movies we play on the 360 player. The ps3 was a waste of money and so are games ! I pre ordered heavenly sword and got it and beat it the same day!! So disapointing... I also HATE....HATE THE concept of having to stear the controler thru the air to aim arrows or to shake it to do combos... Also it needs a rumble pack w/o it, the controller feels like its cheap and empty.

Do not waste your money or ytour time...maybe in the future it will be better, but as of now X360 is 100% better.

This battle is long lost for PS3... mainly because they started trying to be "Better than the competition" instead of being "What the consumer wants"

I own both consoles and play with both regularly... I have to say that

* the PS3 is superior in graphics, obviously because it has an HDMI output whilst the Xbox only has a Dcomp... And I am not about to go and buy another machine so that I can have the "elite" version with more storage and better output.

* the Xbox marketplace is much better than the PS3 one... but then, they have had a long time to work on this!. I should point out that wallpapers and themes are free (and really cool) for the PS3. I have a Heavenly Sword one that is just AWSOME

* The PS3 looks nicer in my living room, since it is black. The Xbox360 belongs in the gamesroom, and its "funky" ipod wannabe style just does not match my furniture!

* The PS controller is much nicer than the Xbox one. It is smaller, lighter and easier to handle. Of course it also has the stupid "Shake me to make combos" feature... Which is just a pain.

* The XBOX360 has better games, a better lineup and selection, and at this stage I do not know if Sony will ever have the time to catch up.

I find it difficult to buy games now, because many of the titles I want are in both consoles... I want them to be Xbox because it will earn me silly achievements and keep me "motivated" to beat the game. But I want to have them for the PS3 because the graphics are so much better!

If you *think* you can do something, or that you cannot, either way, *you are right*

That is true. I think being a year behind your competition makes it really hard to play catch up. Especially since most of the games you come out with tend to be on the 360 as well. It is true that software does push systems and seeing Halo 3 push those sales of 360's and Bioshock both great games and GOTY recipeints.

I am in the "games available" camp.
I think until PS3 gets some good games xbox will be better. I think overall it seems that the systems are pretty equal. So you need to look at the "extras" like the games and online play/interaction.
Graphically PS3 seems to be better, but I think that may also be personal taste. Comparing photos I thought that the xbox looked better, even though the magazine was saying the PS3 photos were the better of the two.
