CKay, seems like I have had the same troubles -- feeling a slight sore throat and being so tired, but not really SICK sick. I keep fighting it off and then in comes back. The worst for me is just being tired. Maybe when the sun shines...............?

Hi TEAM! Rainy day here today, too. But it is 58 degrees though! I am sick and tired of being sick and tired so I am taking a sick day from work tomorrow....I just am not getting any better, if anything I feel worse...will rest tomorrow and may even head over to the doctor.

No exercise this morning and too tired tonight...will wait until I feel better. Sedona is one destination that I hope to make it to....have a great trip FRAN. MNNICE: you will be busy with your music this month!

Take care all,

Char

Fran, we went to Sedona in March and it is an interesting and fun place. All the little shops downtown are amazing and I wish we'd been able to spend more time there, but was just a day trip from Phoenix and we wanted to see some "nature" as well, so the guys shooed us out of the shops in a hurry! Be sure to visit T'laquepaque (spelling? pronounced like Tuhlockypocky) which means "The best of all things." Busy day again. Our choir director just had a baby, so I am in charge of selecting music and running rehearsals for the rest of the month. Trying to arrange special music for this Sunday (Mother's Day), next Sunday (honor the graduating Seniors at Mass and also sing for Baccalaureate Sunday night), and then the following weekend something patriotic for the Memorial Day weekend. Rainy and busy, so probably no walking today!

Eileen we will be going to Sadona Az. Grand Canyon and Santa Fe NM. Then on the way back who knows where we might stop and check some place out. Our first stop will be Witchita Ks. we will see our DD and GD, then the next morning on toward Sadona with one stop in Albuquerque for the night---sure I messed up the spelling.
Since both our mothers are deceased we don't need to celebrate them on Mothers Day.

Hi ALL! Beautiful day in my neighborhood! Busy week for me...missed posting yesterday. Worked last night at night school and will be doing the same tonight.....making up snow days! Still feel under the weather with a slight sore throat, headache, and I keep losing my voice, etc. Hope I can make it through the week and rest up over the weekend.

JAMER: we celebrate my mother and my mother-in-law; both are still with us!

Have a great evening everyone! Did not get exercise in this morning...but did yesterday and hope to get it in tomorrow.

Today is gorgeous and most of the ice is gone from the lake at this end. Was so nice to drive down the hill on the way to work and see the water sparkling in the sunshine!

Finally a beautiful spring day! I went for a quick walk after work with the dog, then to a community concert series concert, which this time was a John Denver tribute. The man actually did the voice of John Denver in the tv movie made about him. The band was very good and enjoyed it!

Goodness, you all sound rather busy! The spring has been sprung and it is starting!! Loving it!! We had several things to get done today and grocery shop was one. We are restocked for now. It was wonderful to be outdoors today. Kind of like being back in the Rio Grande Valley in the winter:) Of course I finally had time to run the vacuum and it "blew up" just at the start up!! Roger took it to the garage to fix & it's unfixable. Roger's brother from Knoxville, TN arrived with the smell still prevalent! So after some price checking, we will be investing in another one. Just bought one for the mobile in TX. & have to replace this one now.

Fran, do you have a special place you are going for your vacation? I know you enjoy KC.
Hope you all are having a good evening. It is still beautiful outside.

Mother's Day is coming up this weekend. Do you celebrate a special person in your life?

We have both our mother's with us yet so we can celebrate them. My MIL is now in hospice care and this may be the last time we do celebrate with her.

Glad you had a great day of travel and eating Jammer.
I had a busy day getting some cleaning done and will finish the rest tomorrow, besides need to go get some groceries for a few more days. We leave bright and early Friday morning for our three week vacation. Need to get things organized and packed for that too. Will try to get dome sparking done depending on availability of internet.

Good evening all. We traveled 140 miles to celebrate a 90th BD of a very close family friend of Roger's. Lovely lady that spent 12 yrs. in Africa as a missionary. Was requested to go to Japan to speak which she first turned down but upon a few more requests did go. They gave her a gift of a royalty wedding dress made of beautiful linen, fully lined and appliqued with real gold. It is something to see. She is a lady that wrote a "play" called 12 Godly Women in History. The troop is all from this small town in western MN. and have gone to 85 places to present it. So we had the BD party after church then lunch. An hour break where we went to visit Roger's mom in the nsg. home. Back to church for the Godly Women and evening meal. We got home about 8:45 tonight. Lot of sitting but an enjoyable day. Roger's mom (who celebrated her 91st BD Weds. as well) had a good day which was wonderful. We were prepared for how she was at Christmas.

I did read all your notes and enjoyed them but not going to take time tonight to chat, just share. Tired after 300 miles of sitting & too much eating (great food too!!!) Hope you all have a good week ahead. We are looking forward to it!

Still no sun, and temperature only in the 30s. I guess it's okay since I can't be outside today anyway. Waiting to see if the weatherman's prediction for a warm week coming up will actually happen, or if they'll just revise it again.

Had a really lazy day. I was very tired again and slept in this morning while watching a movie in bed. Rested most of the afternoon as well. Tomorrow is a busy day - Play for church, go to the school at noon for a quick rehearsal and then play piano accompaniment for a young lady singing at a Gospel Concert put on by our Community Arts Council. It's a fundraiser where you purchase a ballot for $5 each to vote for your favorite performer. The girl I'm playing for is only 16 years old and has a beautiful voice. There will be some very talented performers, both young and old. After that, we will go to a visitation for the mother of my co-worker. Then I go to another concert at a nearby high school to play saxophone with my swing/jazz band which is going to perform with a high school band. And then it will be time to get ready to face another work week! How time does fly!

Hi all! Sorry, my last post was on Sunday the 27th....been a heck of a week...my mom landed in the hospital Monday night...took her home Wednesday night....been really busy at work. Have managed to get some exercise in....but neglected posting here. I have a LOT of JAMER'S questions to answer....so here I go.....usually not veges for breakfast unless I scramble some egg whites with green pepper, onions, etc. Traveling...try to be just as good about fruit and veges, etc while traveling....Grilling: we do it some...would really like to start doing more of it. Gardening: wish my body was able to take bending over, etc better then I would do vegetables again....did it years ago when I was younger, but I do have flower beds and pots. The last snow storm missed us! Hurray!...but I am still wearing my winter coat!

Take care all,

Char

I have a brown thumb generally, but I did keep a peace lily that a friend of mine gave me for Erika's funeral for almost 6 years--that's a record for me!
Most stuff I plant outside doesn't do that well, but I put some violas in a flower bed last summer and gave them some miracle gro, and they turned out really nice. Might try something like that again this year.

Blessed be.

I'm not much of a gardener - I like to have some potted flowers on the steps and hanging baskets, but other than that, it's not something I enjoy doing. I do love the produce and am lucky to have alot of friends who seem to grow more than they want to eat, so between that and visiting the farmers market and Hutterite colony, I can get the garden produce at a reasonable price and without the work!

Thanks Becky. It's nice to be home but we sure do enjoy the south in the winter. I have a tooth that has to be pulled too but my dentist retired so I haven't chosen another yet. I am sure it needs to be dealt with fairly soon!!

I guess the question today will revolve around the snow. Did it snow where you live and how much did you set?

Here we saw snow during the afternoon but it melted as it fell. Thought we would wake up to some but we got very lucky as we live close to the change over line!!
Hope you all have a great Friday!! See ya all then!

Well, it seems our spring is now going to wait to appear until next week. Sure hope it hangs around for a while and we don't go directly into summer!!

Today was my massage day so a quiet afternoon always follows. Lots of knots again from the travels!! Never fails.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I know we have a late season for beginning but I wonder if you put in a garden and if so, what do you like to plant?

We had tried a garden when we moved into our current home but the soil didn't cooperate so we plant a variety of tomatoes including yellow tomatoes.

Hi all, Good answers on the travel question!! I think most people share the same as we do!

The wind has been blowing. Watched KARE11 news tonight and saw something I had never seen before. I think they called it chandeliering ice on Medicine Lake. Here is the URL to copy & paste if it doesn't come through as a link:

I found this awesome!! Never even heard of it before. (Of course I may be the only one who hasn't:)) Wonder how many other lakes had a similar "show".

Hoping we miss the snow but sure sounds like the rain is going to be coming. Can use that. I just don't want to see snow!! Don't miss it:):)D

During the warm days, do you grill outdoors and if so how many do you do per week, weather permitting?

We do a lot of grilling throughout the yr, even cold days. Makes it easier for us going south in the winter to grill often. We don't use charcoal but have 2 different gas grills that we do many different things with.

Stay warm and look forward to this coming Mon. with temps rebounding and sun shining!!

For me it has to be out of routine times of eating and not much exercise the days we are driving. Usually enough exercise once we get to our destination with walking and swimming.

Very windy here today, but won't complain about the temp, since it's supposed to get colder the rest of the week. THe wind will help take the ice out of the lake faster. Still waiting to see what happens in Fargo/Moorhead, as my kids live there, as well as a nephew. Hoping the flooding will be milder than predicted - they certainly seem to be well-prepared for it, which should be a big plus! Eating while traveling -- Probably that it's difficult to stick to healthy choices when eating out often. Also, getting enough water can be difficult.

Great URL's SBOEMS!! Thank you for the input. Hope some of the team will use them.

I had a good day today. Finally got grocery shopping done as we didn't have much but the staples to use. Yesterday was a big brunch and neither of us ate dinner. Still full so didn't worry about what to fix. Loved the weather today but it sounds like it isn't going to last through the week. At least we can get a little better climatized from the 90's weather.

Now that we are getting into the summer travel season I wonder~~~~
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

What is your biggest challenge when traveling?

I had to think about it a little but I believe I don't stay within my usual routine and eating pattern. We travel via camper so we can prepare our meals as we go but lunch is usually a sandwich stop as it is easy it get to the frig. when the slideout is in. Plus exercise is different.

I wish I could figure out veggies for breakfast, but haven't really been too clever for that. If I do, they are blended in a smoothie.

Gwyn, glad you finally got your frig!! I got a new one a couple yrs. ago and love it!!

Hope all of you had a great or at least a good weekend. We had our celebration with our g/daughter today and a brunch afterwards. It was the first time we saw all our kids and g/daughters since Christmas. So it was a double "party". Really tired so this afternoon we took naps. I watched PBS and the stage play Carousel. Didn't realize it was 3 hrs. long but it was live and very good. Now my TV is up to it's old antics of turning itself off and on or just totally off!!! I think we are going to be in need of a new one this summer! It is spastic (LOL).

Do you ever incorporate veggies into your breakfast?

For me, no or very rarely. Mine are mostly in the evening.

Really had a blah day today. Woke up with a headache and just had no energy to do anything at all, and that's exactly what I did! Hoping the rest did the trick and I'll feel back to normal tomorrow.

WE ARE HOME!!! Got in this afternoon. Beautiful weather & my family kept their promise of snow will be gone by the time we arrive! Got most of the camper cleaned out and in the house. Lots of work & worked up a good sweat. Went out to dinner as we hadn't eaten since 10A. Tired and ready to go to bed. The house can wait as we have our g/daughter's first communion in the morning with a dinner after.

No question tonight. Too tired. Will try to come up with one tomorrow. If anyone is interested in posting one, go ahead and I will answer tomorrow. Good night all! Glad to be back!!

Hi Team! What a great, sunny and warm Saturday....finallly!

JAMER: to answer your question....Being on vacation does not bother me. I usually have more time to get my exercise in and usually end up doing more exercise than when I am not on vacation! I do watch my food and track it.

I am off to watch a movie. So glad for the beautiful day as it is our high school's prom tonight and the kids can enjoy the day with pictures outside!

Super stoked about the Sun being out this week. I have burned over 1600 calories since Monday, by walking and biking! The Sun is so what was needed to get out of the slump!

Have a great day everyone! Enjoy the emoticon and have a BBQ!

Finallya day that really felt like spring! The snow has disappeared quickly and maybe by the end of the weekend it will be all gone! We eat out usually every Friday night. We are mostly limited to 3 or 4 places in a small town, but I'm usually able to stick to something fairly healthy. When I decide to splurge and go for something not so healthy, I try to bring half home with me and let hubby eat it for his lunch the next day.

Guess it's time to come on home then, Char!!! I looked at the temp at 8 PM tonight and it was still 70!! WOW! Of course we are looking ahead and see the cooling predicted mid week but we can sure enjoy then changes. We are in southern IA. and waited out the high winds today. Planning on getting home tomorrow afternoon. Cool here the last 2 days. Needed sweatshirts as the winds blew right through us. No sun until late afternoon the it began to warm.

So on the note above, a thought came to mind So the question of the day is;

Do vacations cause you more anxiety than relaxation (due to the possibility of weight gain)?

Yes--I'm always very anxious about gaining too much weight
No--I enjoy it and then move on
It depends
Other (Share it in the comments!)

For me, I enjoy and move on. We are kind of on a permanent vacation in life now so enjoyment is the name of the game for us!

Woo Hoo!! It is so good to hear all you telling of the warm weather! We traveled again today and are in southern IA. Campground has multiple huge potholes that could eat a camper or truck!! Hope we get out without damage. Staying her until Sat. morning and then home. We are dragging the warm weather right along with up. Heard from family today that we will see some snow piles but the rest should be gone. We have yet to see any snow of any form so hoping the melting goes fast!
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

If you eat out do you chose what really temps you from the menu?
Or do you chose the lowest calorie, lowest, fat meal?

For me, I guess it depends on where we go. As we don't go out often, I guess I have to admit I go mostly for the foods that temp me BUT I build it into my daily intake.

Have a great weekend to all! Glad the weather is better!

I gained weight after I got married and then really gained after I had kids. DH wasn't really active. I always dated guys that exercised alot before I met my DH.

I think Spring has finally arrive here in SE MN. We should see day 2 of sunshine. Haven't had that happen in a long, long time. They're still saying 70's for the weekend so I'm getting excited about that.

Have a great day!

Hi my Minnesota teammates! Question of the day: My break up letter would have to be... to not fudge on what I have put in my mouth and count every last thing!

Watching a little TV and then off to bed so that I can get up early to exercise before work!

I am sure hoping the warmer temps really are coming our way!?

Night,

We got on the road again today. Chose to spend 2 nights at WinStar casino camping. It ended up being free camping. They give you $10. each on a card to play with and that each night there. Then this morning was 55+ day and a free senior buffet. Boy, was that good. Tried to not over eat but I'm still not hungry. Someone was right there if it looked like you were going to get up to get something like coffee, juice etc. Huge bingo hall where they served and it was almost full the entire time. So we did a little playing the penny slots and came out okay there. All in all, we have a great time there. It is billed the 2nd biggest casino in the world. Asia has the biggest and WinStar is planning on taking over that title. It is huge too!! There isn't a casino to match the size in Las Vegas! Anyway, we are camped tonight in a little campground just before getting on the Kansas Turnpike. That's our trip plan for tomorrow. There is a freeze warning here tonight so another cold night to be had. Coming up slowly to be sure the weather is NICE!!! Sounds like we won't have trouble getting across the Minnesota River either. All good news.

90% of the time I cook my own recipes -- 10% I use a Spark recipe. depends on my mood

it does not matter how slow you go as long as you do not give up

Hi Team! JAMER: I like answering the questions! The last one about gaining after marriage...my answer is much like MNNICE's answer...I had my last child when I was 35 and in my 40's and 50's gained weight....lost what I wanted to in 2010 and now in 2012-13 have put 10 lbs. back on after knee surgery and foot surgery....but am trying to get back to plenty of exercise again and hopefully that will help me shed those pounds again! Just like MNNICE I did not take care of me and instead took care of everyone else!

Next question: I cook my own healthy recipes, plus I have tried some of the spark recipes.

Night all,

Char

Thank to all for participating in the questions. Do you enjoy so that I continue or would you prefer to not have one posted? That isn't the daily question, just a survey.

We have ventured into OK now, one mile out of TX. and tonight we have freeze warning!! It is cold and windy. We will be rocked to sleep in the camper tonight. We were asked to bring the warmth up with us and besides tonight, it seems to be working. Good to hear the 70's are coming!! Hope the snow is gone and the rivers aren't too full. We need to cross the Minnesota River to get to our home so will keep an ear on what it is doing. Might have to go over the Ferry Bridge and then out to home.

Do you make the SP recipes or do you cook your own?

I cook my own making healthier revisions of my recipes due to many, many foods I can't eat.

Have a great week to all!!

At last we have some sunshine, even if it's not very warm. Looking forward to the weekend, when we're supposed to have temps in the 70s. WOO HOOO! I did gain/lose/gain/lose after I was married, but no different than before (yo-yo's before that, too). I gained the most during my 40s when my kids were active in school activities and I was on the run constantly, resulting in eating alot of fast foods in the car and preparing late, quick unhealthy meals. Also didn't take time for myself to exercise.

Hi all!

Well, we have had several phone calls and FB comments to NOT come home!! Heavy snows & as Char said, 7" at least per our son too, Sounds like a lot of records have been broken this winter. And spring doesn't want to show it's face!! We crossed into OK. this afternoon and had planned a stop at WinStar casino over night but due to weather in the mid section (i.e, OK City storms) we are going to stay another day and let the weather pass on by. Here they are talking borderline frost possibility for tomorrow night. We had a beautiful day to drive today. Did Waco and Fort Worth with no trouble. The town of West, TX is very close to I-35 north of Waco but didn't see anything nor any odors. So sad to have so many deaths. Well, time to finish and get to bed. Tired tonight but can get some R&R tomorrow. This campground is beautiful and inexpensive. No problem hanging around an extra day.

Did you gain weight after getting married?

Yes
No
I'm not married / Not applicable

My answer is: I didn't gain weight until about 10 yrs. after getting married. Worked the 3rd shift by then and didn't sleep well. Also worked 2 jobs for a couple yrs.that took up 16 to 20 hrs. a day. Started having health issues and developed Fibromyalgia. Weight just kept going up and I kept slowing up. Now I am going the other way and hope to continue that direction!!

Hi Team! Snowing....again....maybe 7 inches tonight...SUMMER, PLEASE!

Missed posting on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! No time left tonight either....will catch up tomorrow.

JAMER'S QUESTION: My spouse and some co-workers back in 2009 knew I was working towards a healthier lifestyle! And I am still sticking with it.

Wash walls or paint rooms from time to time. Wash all the furniture down and bed spreads or comforters. I do this usually in the Spring and whenever else is necessary the rest of the year. Although whith planning to sell our home this year this chore will be stretched out longer with downsizing each room at the same time.

As I sit here -- snow coming down and whiteout conditions on the highways! The last spring cleaning I did was in the Spring of 1980, I believe.............. Windows, carpets, walls, etc. get cleaned periodically as they need it, but not all at once. Without kids in the house anymore, it's easier to get the "deeper" cleaning done beause I don't have to spend so much time on laundry, changing beds, clutter of toys, etc.
