Another American Cancer Society Relay for Life done. Up and walking 24 hours trying to stay warm in the dampness all night. Every joint in my body aching today and hard to walk. Had 4 hours sleep and DH wanted to go to the 4H camp we rent where he and brother put on 2 new cabin roofs. Unfortunately, we missed the tribute they did to the Clement family for all of the work they volunteer to do there. Too tired to figure out dinner.

It may take me a bit, but Holly, I saw your facebook post....dinner sound scrumptious!!!! LOL

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

Love

Hello Divas! Sorry for the absence.....no notifications again.

Yay and kudos to Holly and Sue on the weight loss! Awesome job, ladies! Yay to Mana for indoor plumbing! Lol Yay to Jen for Con's return and your loving care for your mother. It's a tough job -- physically, emotionally, mentally..... My mother suffered from dementia (in addition to the paralysis left by the stroke) and I know it's not easy. Hang in there. Call if you need moral support or a safe venting spot.

Lots of ups and downs for me recently, but I'm pushing through. Still waiting on paperwork for the kiddo from mom (who never seems to be in a big hurry) so we can enroll her in summer school. And getting a legal surprise or two in the form of tickets, which we are trying to deal with so we can all move forward. Court dates are def in our future though which means a couple of trips to Austin.

It's awesome to see everyone. I really love y'all and think of you/pray for you often.....more than you know.

Thanks, Holly. Your dream place sounds fabulous!!! I hope you get it! ;)

I *think* (hope) that they're almost finished - yay!! They have some clean-up left to do, but we now have a working septic system . . . . finally! They took down some trees (because of the field line installation) so they have a few tree limbs, etc., to pick up along with some landscaping cross-ties that had to be removed. They're steadily trying to talk us into letting them work on other things (landscaping, tree removal, stuff like that), but we're about broke so anything extra will definitely have to wait until the bank account is back up a bit.

Tramadol sounds familiar, but I'm not sure why. I have to watch what I take because of my kidneys - too many years of abusing Advil because of a couple of herniated discs in my neck. Not so sure that this Naproxen is going to work out for my knees - I have been hurting all day today. It might be that I've overdone it (because I felt so good) or it might be that another weather system is about to move in. I just hope it starts working again.

Well, guess I'd better scoot. Hope everyone is having a fabulous week!!

Oh Mana...so so sorry about the plumbing and the pain. Glad you found something that worked!! Due to Kevins loss of one kidney to cancer, he cant take alot..they gave him one...Tramadol, also called Ultram. it does nothing for me but did help him. he decided he would rather be in pain than take the meds, though, so he takes nothing and grits his teeth through it all.
i hope things are better soon!! i found my dream place today..in a quiet section of lake george, its own peninsula. NO near neighbors, its own dock, its own beach. 790 thou. i need to start playing the lottery....

Good morning, Ladies!! I hope you all had a fabulous long weekend!!

Still up at the cabin, although it has been trying at times. The septic guys have NOT finished installing the new system, despite being told it would only take a couple of days. Eight days later, and it's still not done (even though they worked Saturday and yesterday). The head guy did let slip that he went swimming one day (even showed me his sunburn - ugh), so obviously they're not working every day. Being out in the sticks, we've kinda, sorta forgotten about the "good ol' boy" method of working. We can't even park in the driveway because it's all torn up - they managed to yank the water line out of the meter with the back-hoe! We were without running water Saturday night through Monday morning. They "fixed" it, but the pipe was leaking big time and we had to shut the water off unless we wanted a major water bill. They're supposed to finish up today (yeah, right) and I certainly hope so because they're severely hampering my relaxation time!!

Hubby went to work this morning after working on the plumbing in the crawl space until 4:00 this morning. I stayed up until well after 2 a.m., kinda dozed off and on until he finally came to bed. I know how tired I am, so I know he must be exhausted. He plans on going to the house after work to pick up a couple of things (an hour commute) and then driving up to the cabin afterward (almost two hours). I tried to convince him to stay at the house tonight, but he wants to inspect what the contractors get done today.

I wanted to share something that I read in a somewhat recent Reader's Digest. It was an article about meds that cause weight gain and the doctors don't know why. There were only a handful of them (less than 10, I think) and they lumped them into categories. Well, wouldn't you know that two meds I take on a regular basis are on the list?!?!?! One is atenolol, my blood pressure med. Not much I can do about that one, but the other is an OTC sleep med - the sleep ingredient in stuff like Tylenol PM and Simply Sleep (what I use). It's also an antihistamine (found in Benedryl). I'm a night owl so if I don't take one every night, I don't sleep. Well, I've stopped taking them - let's see if it makes a difference.

Speaking of meds, I called my ortho the other day about my knees. I was almost in tears because of all the pain I've been experiencing the past 2-3 weeks. The problem is I can't take Advil or Motrin (or any NSAID). So I emailed my GP again. He keeps trying to help, but so far no luck. He finally prescribed naproxen, which I believe falls into the NSAID category. Well, the difference is amazing! I still have the stiffness, but the pain is nowhere near what it was before! It's not 100% gone, but it's so much better than before that I can actually function.

Well, I need to scoot. Just wanted to check in with y'all (I'm at our local internet cafe - McDonald's in Blue Ridge!!) and wish everyone a good Tuesday!!

Holly - you are JUST rocking!!! Wooohoooo!!!

I hope you had fun at Katie's.

Dave and I just finished a wonderful dinner - cold roast chicken, steamed asparagus with olive oil and vinegar and a rice bran (no-gluten) roll. YUM. I also had some cantaloupe and grapes. It's HOT out here, and this was perfect. Today has been a day of back and forth visits with Mom, straightening the house and getting ready for Con's return. He comes back with Dave on Thursday morning. I'm SO ready!

I was going to stay at Mom's while Dave was away, but I've decided to stay here, hang out with Firelight, enjoy the peace and quiet, etc. I'll spend most of the day at Mom's in any case.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day!

Love,
Jen

Hey Sue! CONGRATS on keeping that weight OFF and good vibes on the rest of your journey. We're here whenever you need the boost. I need some of that motivation, too.

Mana - I'm so glad your mom is doing better. It's so touch and go with this age group. I hope you have a wonderful time up at the cabin!

I'm back at Mom's, but things are calm so far. I hope to get many tasks done and hopefully spend some time with Dave as well.

Sending you all lots of love,
Jen

surprise! long time, right? i know! just wanted to pop in and let my fav ladies that helped me so much know that i have kept my weight loss off one year now, and am ready to go again! I recently bought new sneaks, two new workout outfits, and am ready to get rid of all the excuses and keep on my journey to continue getting healthier! :) I went from a 3x to an xl with your help....and now I want to get into "one"~derland! seems silly to stop now when making progress really isn't that hard. I don't want to settle for this anymore....even tho i am very pleased and excited to be an xl, and feel so much better, i am honestly still so much bigger than i should be, and can only imagine how much better i will feel if i keep on getting healthier! I know if I share here, it will help me be motivated!!! I will want to tell you my good news when i do better! you ladies rock! I couldn't have done it without you , and i will never forget you! Wishing you all the best , and prayin for your success too!

Hey, Jen!

Well, I'll be all by myself for much of the time! Hubby has to work Tuesday - Friday, but he plans to make the commute - at least 2 hours each way!! We both love it up there despite all the little "issues" that we keep discovering.

And I'd love to have you come visit - wouldn't that be awesome?!?! However, we'll have the cabin for a good long while, so you'll have many opportunities to head our way and spend some time here.

Mom seemed to be feeling a lot better today. I guess yesterday just got the best of her - she seemed pretty overwhelmed by "stuff." She was happy to get her hair done - kept saying how much fun we had today! Changing doctors isn't easy here - remember, these doctors don't feel they should have to take Medicare patients . . . . . .

Need to finish packing. Take care - have a great weekend!

Hi Mana!
Have an absolutely wonderful time up in the cabin! Does all by yourself mean without DH? I so WISH I could come join you!

I hope your Mom's okay - that sounds pretty horrible in terms of the antibiotics, etc. Bladder infections can be nasty. Is there a DIFFERENT doctor she could go to?

Well, back to paperwork.

Love and hugs,
Jen

Good morning, Ladies!!

JEN!! So good to see you, my friend! I just can't imagine what you're going through right now - my heart goes out to you. I'm glad you're able to find some time for you in the midst of all that is happening. Love you, Girl, and I'm sending a big hug your way.

Holly, congrats on the continuing weight loss!! That's awesome!! BTW - what are the blood tests for?

Claire, wow, that Waco trip was something else! So glad you made it back safely! Yes, I believe in the 3s - so many times mine are $$$ related.

Picking up Mom to get her hair done in a bit - she hasn't been feeling well, so not sure how today's going to go. She was complaining of lower back pain, the PA *thought* it was a bladder infection and put her on major antibiotics. The meds tore up her stomach and her back still hurts - but she refuses to go back to the doctor . . . .

I am taking the week off - woo-hoo!! I plan to spend the entire week up at the cabin all by myself (unless any of y'all want to join me???). Of course, that all depends on whether or not we have working plumbing. The septic guy was out there this week installing a new system - he finished up yesterday and hubby needs to put some finishing touches on the plumbing he was redoing in the crawl space. After he's done, we should be good to go!

Take care - hope y'all have a Happy Friday!

Hi Divas!!!
How ARE you? I've tried to read back a bit, but obviously have tons to catch up on. Thanks for the well-wishes, etc.
Raine and Holly - WOOHOO on ww and all that! Holly - WHAT a loss! You GO, GF!!!!
I imagine, Mana, that you're up to the cabin for Memorial Day weekend? Holly are you DONE with school?
Claire - I'm so glad things are going well with Delany.
I'm hanging in there. I'm at my mom's more times than not. She's definitely failing, but still doing well at times. For those who have been there, she's having some circulation issues from time to time, memory is all over the map, anxiety, sleeping a lot, almost total lack of appetite, much less interest in activities, visitors, etc. And this, of course, is my social butterfly Mom.
I won't deny that it's rough. I also still need to get my work done for the end of the year - I've been completely disconnected. It's not good. Anyway, hopefully one day at a time. The good news is that I've actually lost weight, and I've started to get back to fully healthy habits. It turns out there's a room here with exercise equipment, and I've really been enjoying that. On the nights when I get to stay at home, I've been back to my meditation, yoga and zumba or equivalent. I'm trying to meditate and do a little yoga here, too, but the space is cramped.
Anyway, basically all is as well as it can be. Mom is in relatively good and peaceful spirits. Prayers are asked for an easy, pain-free transition to her next adventure.
Sending everyone love! Claire, I also hope to start reading the blog again.

TGIF, Divas! Happy Memorial Day weekend.

Love,
Jen

Hi Divas! Our trip to Waco was a little more drama-filled than I would have liked, but we made it home safe and sound. John's truck was hit that morning (rear-ended), issues with the trailer (flat tire) and bikes (broken strap that could have caused it to fall into traffic). J is having back and neck pain but already had an appt with the chiro today. UGH. But all's well that ends well.

Making appointments for the kiddo and getting things moving in a positive direction. Busy week.
Hope all is well with my lovely friends!

Woo-hoo, Holly - that is awesome!!!! I have never lost that much weight in one week - congrats and good job!!!

We're staying at the cabin through tomorrow to make sure the contractor is clear about what needs to be done, then we'll be heading back tomorrow night. Hubby has been working so hard redoing the plumbing in the crawl space to get it up to code and to make sure it "fits" with the new septic system. I can't do anything to help him, so I've just piddled around mostly . . . .

And, Holly, once we get all this stuff done on the cabin, I'd love to have you come visit!

Morning, Divas! Whew! It's been busy at my house and we are now in Waco so that the kiddo's step mom could pick her up and take her to see her dad (he's been in prison since Delany was about 3 and will be back up for parole in a couple of years. And when we talked to her mom about staying with us, mom was way more worried about the tax write off than she was about her daughter.....needless to say, there are issues). But Del is awesome and we love having her with us. But it has thrown me for a loop time wise. I'm way behind on many things and need to find a way to find some balance.

As far as my new efforts, I've been exercising more...and more consistently. Trying to drink more water (which is way easier for me in the summer, luckily. Maybe by fall/winter I'll be a water drinking fool!). We haven't made a ton of food changes (other than just being more mindful) at this point, but we are making small, permanent changes.

That's the news from TX! Sending big hugs to Jen and all my lovely Divas. Have a great weekend!

Hi Girls!! Raine and Mana i envy you..wish i was going to camp..or ANYWHERE!!! i'm so tired of nothing fun. but we make our own fun, right?

Raine i found the points easy to follow..especially online. way to go with staying in range!! I have chicken on the grill, zucchini and brown rice steaming. i've been really good.

Ok so. last night there was a show on for 2 hours on a 600 and something pound woman. She struggled the same as us. i watched the show..she had gastric bypass. i saw till 6:15 and missed the last 45 mins so i dont know how she ended up..last i saw she was down to 285 and had had excess skin and tissue removed from her rear and legs..did too much and opened them up and was not doing well..expected stay in the hospital of at least 2 months. Her husband adored her...i wanted to give him a hug he was worried sick about her.
Anyhow..i watched...the poor woman. She had a "fat pack" as she called it that hung down between her legs...looked like someone tied a balloon there. she had that removed, also, but it so hit home to me. i thought no. i HAVE to stick to this. i WILL NOT ever let that happen. I wish i could thank her but i dont remember anything but that her name was Melissa. dont even know the channel.

OK gotta turn my chicken. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!
Love you all!!

Happy Friday, Ladies!!

I'm taking a little bit of a breather before we head to the cabin tonight. So looking forward to the peace and quiet, even if we are still having septic issues. However, that should be fixed next week - hubby has done a lot of research and has figured out that we don't need to do it the way the first plumber was "recommending." We are also going with a different company. All in all, these two things will save us around $10k!!

Raine, congrats on starting again! I will be joining you (and Holly and Claire) shortly - need to get my head together first. I have spent so much time dealing with my knees that dealing with anything else is just overwhelming. However, I had a chance to think things through today and will be taking a more "logical" approach to dealing with my knees. We'll see how it goes.

Holly, good job on the walking and great job on the weight loss!! I have been going to the gym and working out on the bike. Also been getting some weight training in (targeting my knee muscles). I need to go more often, but the weather has been rainy lately and causes me a lot of pain.

Claire - my daughter and I went to see the Bloggess Wednesday night!! She is hilarious!! And she was rather overwhelmed by the sheer number of folks that showed up - she said it was, by far, the biggest turnout she's had. B&N management was shocked as well - they had set up maybe 40 chairs and had reserved 10 of them for the intro's folks (Kathryn Stockett, author of The Help). They couldn't set up enough chairs - there were people standing everywhere. Because of you, I knew to get there early, so we were in the first group (blue - our colors were blue, yellow and pink). After we got our books signed (BTW, I mentioned you to Jenny), we had a hard time getting out of the store - there was a line of folks waiting in every aisle to get their books signed. And these were the folks who didn't fall into any of the three groups!! Loads of fun for us and a fun outing with my daughter. The book was her Mother's Day present to me.

Sandy, so good to see you!! Give me a call and let's finally get together, okay??

I heard from Jen the other day - she's been crazy-busy plus she's spending a lot of time with her mom. Keep her (and her mom) in your thoughts, okay?

Better finish packing - take care and have an awesome weekend!!

(My new motto: God didn't do it all in one day, what makes me think I can?)

Well I'm off to Camp Wabasso to get it ready for the family reunion next weekend. DH is up there now volunteering. He and his brother are putting new roofs on 2 cabins. They are volunteering and doing a $8-10,000 job and Cornell will not give us a discount on using the camp? He was going to talk to the head guy again - I offered to to talk to him - but he said no, I think he was afraid of what I would say. Hey after all this time in the business world, i've learned a thing or two about how to go about getting something.

So accountability. I have to say, that I've managed to stay within the weight watchers points everyday except one and for that one I had plenty to borrow from my weekly allowance. This is the online WW. I was worried because in the past people would talk about their points and how to calculate and I would glaze over in about 5 mins and zone out...but this, seems pretty simple for tracking and the site consistently lets me in, which sparks doesn't do anymore. This journey is certainly teaching me patience. As you know, I am now OL on the scale and cannot get my exact reading. I know I am up because of the steroids the doctor had me on, so my first goal is to get down to where I am no longer OL on the scale, but can actually read a weight. But it is frustrating because I think I feel less but cannot confirm it. I was going to just go get a bigger set of scales, but then I thought, maybe this is the journey I am supposed to learn - learn how to listen and feel how my own body is doing. Anyway-still right foot left footing it, but it is becoming more of a slow stroll than a measured step. In case I do not get back on here - have a wonderful weekend everyone...and for those of you working on a plan - DO GOOD!

LOL - I too forgot when I bought it, that I dislike fat free cottage cheese, thus the need for raisins in it. I've never tried tofu. btw-meant to congratulate you on your RV, it will make your life so much nicer at the fair, I can even see you running in for some relief during the summer...lol.

Oh Raine i've never been able to do the fat free cottage cheese. i got down to the 2% but the less fat the runnier it is and i cant do runny cottage cheese. i put a paper towel in it the minute i get home, and then a new one each time i scoop some out so its drier. thats how i can get it down..lol.
also great protein...tofu. never thought i would say it but i have an ediets recipe for it that is out of this world.....

Good Morning Divas!

Great job on the consistent walking Holly. I think the fact that you are getting out there consistently is just as important, if not more than the amount you do. It is too easy to break the exercise streak. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Thanks too for you wishes. My hands are very sore this morning and I'm still swollen.

So I did go back to bed and now I'm like the rabbit, I'm late I'm late for a very important date. There is a channel I leave on when I'm "dozing" because I hear it in the back ground and when it is over I know I have to get up to give me time to get dressed and to work. This morning they played 2 extra episodes....oh well, I didn't get home until 10:30 last night.

However, before I run, I did make sure to eat something for breakfast. Needed something easy, so fat free cottage cheese with some raisins thrown in. Holly thanks for the reminder of using cottage cheese as a protein. I used to have it for breakfast in one of my past dieting lives. It's handy when you don't have much time to cook. So I've eaten this morning and logged my points with WW. So I guess I move back to my right....slowly...step...by step...right foot left foot right foot. At least I'm still moving forward.

Have a wonderful day ladies. May each of you find at least 1 health-ful thing you can claim as your own today. It doesn't matter where we start, just that we do.

Love you guys.
-Raine

Congratulations HOlly on the weightloss. You Rock! You are on your way - keep it up girl.

I had a long bad day today with a night dinner meeting with a bunch of political two faced community "leaders" who can only pat themselves on the back...yeah I know, how do I really feel right? Everything hurts, swollen, my hands are so swollen I cannot move my rings. Would love to find a small RV Van and just take off, me and DH. Could eat every chip, corn curl or other carbohydrate junk food available, instead I had an apple. I don't have any bad stuff in the cupboard. There is some good news in all of this, with as rotton a day as it has been, I just finished logging my points on WW and I am within my points allowed again. Guess I will get to bed.

Sleep tight girls!

Hi All..I'm hanging in, too, Raine. Broke my cardinal rule and got on the scale this morning as i needed a boost. I find if i can stick it out 3 days i can stick it out for the long haul and i woke up wondering if it was worth it. I am down 4 pounds in 2 days. that catapoulted me off on a walk..and i have been struggling to do 3 laps (3/4 mile) at a clip. well, i did the three decided to do one more..and ended up with a mile and a quarter!!! yes it hurt. yes my feet are screaming..and we wont even talk about my knee. but i did it...i'm still alive. and i'm thinking early am is the best time for me..the soreness of the day hasnt set in, its a bit cooler, and i get to have breakfast when i get back!! LOL
Anyhow..it was good to see the lower number. now just another 16 more and i'll be back where i was. and then the losing begins in earnest.
Its supposed to thunderstom all afternoon and i have a list a mile long to get through today. i'm thinking if i work hard i can get it all done by one..and then put my feet up and sew a while.
Raine hang in...we can do this.....
love you all!!

Morning Ladies,

Hope it is cooler there for you Holly so school can be more comfortable for you.
Just thought I would check in real quick for accountability. Had a good food day yesterday, stayed within my range while enjoying a very good dinner. Unfortunately it was late when we got home and I was so swollen and hurting so I did not get my excercise in, but then as sore as I am this morning it may be good to take 1 day off. We'll see how today goes, I have another night meeting....

Have a great day everyone!

Morning girls...off to work with me hoping its a cooler day. the school is like a sweatbox...
i wont get on the scale again till next monday. no sense defeating myself before i get going!!!

here is Dr Aroonne's study and why his patients are so successful (he is the founder and director of the weight program at NY presbyterian/cornell university medical center hospitals in NY city)

they showed me a chart, which really hit home. its so simple i cant believe they dont put it out there..but people wouldnt like it. ok so you have peaks and valleys in your blood sugar. you CANT lose with the high fluctuations. for instance. you get up in the morning, your blood sugar is low. you have a bowl of cheerios(which i learned are NOT good..they spike your BS. ) sugar goes sky high. then you go off to work and by lunch you are ravenous..you eat a sandwich with white bread and mayo...BAM back up. your body cant losw with the peaks and valleys. it needs to stay even. so. you get up. have a good size portion of cottage cheese and some fresh fruit. BS is stabilized. mid morning you have a snack..maybe peanut butter and celery. lunch comes..chef salad with fresh veggies and plenty of lean protein. another snack mid afternoon. Dinner is salad or vegetable soup if you wish, lean protein. plenty of veggies. brown rice or a sweet potato...something like that. your blood sugar never spiked all day..you can lose. and the best part is? you dont get hungry!!!!!
it works...its simple. no white anything (well cauliflower is ok..but i mean bread or potatos) as much fresh as you can. lean protein. bananas are another not good thing...they spike your bs.
anyhow. works for me i just have to stick with it..which isnt hard. you eat till you are full..within reason..and no cravings.
gotta run have a great day!!

Thanks, guys! It's cool to know we all are starting about the same time too. Holly, I actually am concerned with some of the symptoms I'm having, alot of the numbness, feet etc., that although I do not test diabetes, I may be heading that way (cousin, brother has it). So, I started by looking at the zone and although I am doing weight watchers, I'm also trying to incorporate the principles of the Zone (which is also about insulin leveling.) Claire I've not heard of that one, but awesome that you are walking again. And how great is it you have a little motivator ...oh what talks you will have. She is lucky to have you and a whole new life of possibilities because of you.

I increased my work out tonight from 15 to 30 minutes on the bike 5 min warm up then 2 min intervals, moderate, fast, moderate, fast, etc. It was recommended to do it this way. DH is concerned that I'm going to hurt from increasing too much....with the pain I'm in, how would I know the difference? I guess if I'm going to hurt, I might as well at least earn a few points to put towards my food.

Ok, now I go from right foot to left foot. One day at a time. Let's see where this goes. My first goal is to get back down to where my scales will actually read my weight...I still cannot believe I got there. Everyone tells me it is the steroids, but geeezzz I promised myself I would never cross that line. Oh well, just got to back up over that line and keep on backing it down.

Will check in again tomorrow.

Hugs to all!
-Raine

memememememe! DH and I are slowly working our way into a new eating plan. We are working with someone who subscribes to the GenoType Diet http://www.genotypediet.com/index.shtml (which apparently Dr. Oz also endorses). The food part is pretty foreign to us, so we're taking it slow and figuring it out. But I've been walking (thanks to the kiddo who gets me out and about), so that's improvement.

WE CAN DO THIS!!

I am Raine..as of today. the skinny by Dr Arronne...the same plan i did so well with in the fall. basically its keeping your blood sugar level and letting your body take care of the rest. no weighing, measuring...just eating what he says you can have till you are full..and not eating the rest. its hard the first few days but i got on the scale this morning and about died. said thats ENOUGH...i'm done with cramming food to quell the depression.
anyhow..i have the plan on my computer if you want it. its easy, theres plenty to choose from, or, just go to ebay or amazon and buy the book..again its called "The Skinny" by Dr.Louis J Aronne. totally endorsed by Oz(i dont much like Oz but i do respect him) and a bunch of others..dr aronne takes really hard cases and has great results,,,AND he understands that its NOT OUR FAULT. which makes me want to track him down and give him a huge bear hug!!
Anyhow so far today i'm on plan..about to have a big chefs salad. he does cut the bread carbs ALOT but it works so i can do without bread for awhile. i am vowing to be under 250 by the 1st of jan 2013
whos in?

Hi Sandy, good to see you back on the board.

OK - it's Monday - a new week. Is anyone here currently doing an active dedicated plan to work on health and weight loss that would like to share? I'm trying again.

I was doing so good before I got sick. I look at the calendar and cannot believe it had me in its grips for over 8 weeks. Two antibiotics, 2 chest xrays, steroids (others are now telling me that 10 days was a long time for this - normally only 3-4 days???? and I'm still not completely over it all. The worse part about it all is I was feeling so good before I got sick, ready to start a formal excercise plan - even looked at a membership at Planet Fitness.

Then sick - meds - and gaining at least 10 lbs (new record high argh!) and the body is in full ache mode, woke up this morning both arms leg and feet numb/tingling hardly able to walk, hands so sore I had trouble taking off the top of an already opened bottle. I really think its the steroids or the levoxthyrozine(?) hormone supplement I'm taking for the hypothyroid that has messed my system up. It looks like I may be trying yet another dr. Too long a story to go into here,

Anyway, I was sitting watching TV talking to God telling Him I was just going to work through the pain, trust Him and start working on my weight and my health and saying that I was putting this journey in His hands to guide me. I kid you not, instantly a commercial came on the TV about weight watchers and joining for free.

I've never been a fan of weightwatchers...too many rules and having to calculate divide know points - well it was not under the KISS principal - and it has to be simple for my brain not to shut down. But I have heard it is easier, so I signed up. This first week has been one of realizations, things I thought would be ok.....not so ok. But it will be like everything - there are tools out there, lots of ways to lose - it's the doing it that falters. But I'm trying it.

Right foot....well you know the rest....

Let me know what you guys are working on, if anything and good luck to all in their quest for health!

-Raine

Hi, Zie, and welcome!!

I did a search on your question and I found the following info - hope it helps!

1. Go to Weight Loss Goals and reset the figures there, ensuring to select pounds and enter a pounds figure (eg don't put 74 lbs if you're 74 kgs). Make sure you set the goal weight, too.

2. On your spark page (although I think you can do it from the page in 1, not sure) edit your ticker to use imperial values, not metric values.

3. Check on Account/Email Preferences that you do NOT have the "use metric system" box checked.

4. Weigh in. Your last weigh-in would presumably be a kg figure. You'll need a new weigh-in with a new imperial figure.

Do all of those, and you're in Imperial.

Note that past history doesn't change on the reports. You'll show as having weighed very little at previous weigh-ins where you recorded a kg figure. It won't show you changed system, you'll just show has having gone from weighing 74lbs to weighing 162. :)

Hi Zie! You don't look like you weight 500# either!

Well, kiddo's room now has 2 hot pink wall (opposite each other) and 2 zebra striped walls (the other two). It looks really cute and goes with the bedding we bought before she came.

Church tomorrow, the baby's play off game (ok he's not a baby -- he's 6 but we still call him that but not to his face! lol) and dinner with the kids. Looking forward to it.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Diva moms! Have a wonderful day!! Claire

Hi Everyone!!
I don't understand why the start page has my weight in pounds.. but on the ticker on other pages, it's in kgs.....
Is there any way to change that ?
I tried to get my ticker to show pounds but it always shows up as kgs.. I really don't weigh over 500 pounds...

Thanks, Claire..the post was specifically for 2 people who spew hate but hide behind being Christian. They are quick to criticize but have no positives about their candidate. I would never try to sway anyone one way or another..nor would i call people names for having a differing opinion than i do. I just want everyone to play nice!!!

Ladies i have an emergency prayer request...first let me say that Zyreal will be going back to school monday!! miracles do happen..and now i need another.

Please pray...especially at 4:44 pm today, for Gina. She works with kids. gives and gives and gives. She is in big trouble..her stomach had to be unattached, and when they went in to reattach it they found she has polycystic kidney disease. she is now on dialysis, and the prognosis isnt good but CAN be if they can get her into some clinical trials. please please please pray for this wonderful woman. your prayers have interceded so often and i thank you....

Lots of love..
Holly

I agree! I hate all the negativity. I "liked" your comment but didn't add one, but I'm thrilled that Obama has come out for gay marriage. Whether ppl agree with their choices are not, I still believe that gays have a right to be married and to reap all of the benefits that straight couples do. I still can't believe someone called you names for expressing your opinion. My 2 cents.....

We are painting Delany's room today. Hot pink on 2 walls and zebra stripes on the other 2. Should be interesting!

I hope all my Divas are ok......esp the ones who have been quiet lately. Jen? PJ? Klemie?

Hi all!! the sun is FINALLY out.i am so very sick of rain. hopefully it will stay a few days this time....
back on the wagon for me..got on the scle this morning and almost fainted. NOTGOOD. so. i'm back at it with a vengeance!!
May not be on facebook much..i'm so tired of the hate all around and looking at it there sends my blood pressure up. I was called an (and i quote) "ignorant idiot" for requesting that people post the GOOD things about their candidate, instead of what they see as bad about the other.
NOT ONE PERSON DID IT. none. does this mean they can find nothing good about theirs so they have to resort to slinging mud and hate and the one they dont support? So sad...but I posted nothing offensive, nor would i. I dont think thats adult or constructive. Needless to say i have two less on my friends list, the other being one that told me the nastiness is "half the fun" of it. I dont have the time or the desire to waste my life on nastiness!!!
so, i'm still undecided..but if you dont see me there, please know i'm fine just not buying into the negative.
have a great day..i'm swamped with mothers day cakes so off to the bakery with me!!!
Love you all..have a wonderful, kind, NICE day!!

Hello ladies!

Looks like we've all been busy-busy lately. Work has kept me hopping, and the next few days aren't going to be any better. Spending time with Mom tomorrow - her cell phone died and I need to get her a new one (she's on our plan). Checking in with a friend on Saturday (it's her birthday!) and that night I'm taking our son to the Legend of Zelda concert for his birthday (he's gonna be 30!!!!!). On Mother's Day, we'll be taking Mom out for lunch. Maybe I'll find some "me" time later on Sunday evening.

Holly, glad Kevin got your plumbing problems fixed! Ours is still an ongoing saga - we're getting quotes from a couple of other companies because the first one seemed to be a little (lot) outrageous. Based on the other two quotes, his price was 2-3 times the going rate. I'm learning way too much about septic systems!!

Claire, what a wonderful thing you and DH are doing!! Obviously your heart is as big as the state you live in! Oh, BTW, the Bloggess is coming to Atlanta next week. My daughter and I are planning on going to see her. Only problem is she'll be in Buckhead - the busiest, most traffic-y part of Atlanta - ugh.

Raine, so glad you're finally feeling better!! The knees have not been too happy this week - the weather has been gray and gloomy. Today was better, but like an idiot, I went to the gym and overdid it. I'm paying for it now. And I would love to go back to NY for a visit! My former employees have been asking the same thing. I probably won't make it this year, but I'm hoping I can go back for a visit next year. Would love to meet up with you and Holly again!

Jen, how's it going, my friend? You're in my thoughts - hope you can feel the hugs I've been sending your way.

PJ and Kaku - missing you both!! Hope you're doing well!!

Guess I'd better get to bed. Y'all take care - hope you have a fantastic Friday!!

You're right, Holly. They don't see that it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. So sad for everyone......

Glad you are feeling some better, Raine!!

Problem with Jackie is she WAS loved. noone, still, has a clue WHY this happened, The only thing everyone DOES know is that if this gun wasnt so easily accessible, maybe it wouldnt have. Kids that age are so spur of the moment, and dont think about the consequences. Her parents are exemplary. I feel so bad for her dad..he will never forgive himself for this. They apparently had finished dinner, she quietly went downstairs took the gun took it to her room and that was that. People are so ridiculous on the subject..i would never say that people shouldnt have guns. i WOULD say, they should be LOCKED UP with only the adults having access to the key. It could have prevented this tragedy. Her parents will suffer forever.

Hi all,

If you can believe it, I’m just finally beginning to feel better. I think I had every single type of sinus infection and flu bug there is out there - back to back. I have had a lot going on, just suffice it to say right foot left foot and trying one more time to reduce stress, work on getting healthy and just working on making the decisions that will allow my husband and I to enjoy this life we are blessed with.

Jen, how is your mom doing? You have been on my mind a lot these past two weeks. You are both in my daily prayers.

Holly, the suicide of any child is so devastating. There is so much wrong in this world and each of us can draw back to how we were brought up, what society was like around us how much better it was than today is many ways – granted not every way but I’m thankful I grew up when and how I did. But comparing and knowing what needs to be done to make things better does no good, because the world and people have changed so much it will never be the same again. Children unloved, feeling lost, no direction, adults the same way for that matter, and the world around us just deteriorating and falling apart. All we can do is pray for God’s forgiveness on the way society and we have turned our back on Him and try to do our own piece of whatever we can do to generate positive changes around us.

And speaking of doing what we can for positive changes to make a difference…Claire, God Bless you for giving that child what she needs. God will bless you, your husband and you for this.

Mana – how are you knees doing? I know that it is a long process. Will you be back this way at all? Would love to see you again.

Mana & Holly – plumbing – so costly and it holds you hostage because you need your water. Hope you get everything fixed.

Have a great weekend! We have another busy one. Huge rummage sale at the firehall. It’s one of our fundraisers for the Randy’s Rangers Relay for Life Team to raise money to fight cancer.

Love you all!
-Raine

Hello ladies! I guess everyone has had a busy weekend. I have some news..... We have taken in our niece from Austin. 16...maybe a sophomore, but not sure (she's missed a bunch of school). Rough life growing up. But she's awesome......so sweet and willing and ready for a change. Our plan is to keep her as long as she wants to stay (like thru high school). We both felt led to do this and it's been wonderful so far (a week). She also wants to help me with my exercise goals (hope she doesn't kill me! lol). Just wanted to fill you in on our new adventure! Love ya! Claire

Kevin fixed it. i stayed out of the way of flying wrenches and bad language..lol i grew up with a dad who would NEVER have thought of swearing in front of a woman, but whom i hear had a mouth like a sailor at work. shocked me!!

ok the continuing saga of the Independence stainless. I saw 6 teaspoons for a good price on ebay on a buy it now so i did. Brand new it says...still in the plastic wrappers. they came. i opened them. oh goodness..they are NOT the same. they are cheaply made, and the ridges are far different on the edges..so i write to the seller and tell her this. she very kindly says really? let me look, which she does,,and says you are right (on the ridges) apparently Oneida moved some of their operations overseas, and they did a run on independence for restaurant use (much cheaper grade)
SO...now i have to be SURE it say ONEIDA DELUXE if i want it to be what i'm looking for.
lol i'm thinking i may just give up...hahhaha

Ugh, Mana. I remember when I bought my first house and about a week after I moved in, my bedroom ceiling started to leak. I was afraid I had bought a money pit. It worked out fine, but I feel your pain!

Holly, hope things are brighter for you today. Prayers still coming.(we posted at the same time)

Busy, busy week. Better get moving! Have a great Wed! Claire

Oh, Holly, how so very sad. Thoughts and prayers to all (and a huge hug to you).

Glad to hear Day 1 went well, Claire. Hope things continue along that vein!

We're getting worse and worse news on the whole plumbing situation - ugh. It's going to cost a LOT more than we had ever expected. :(

Back to work for me - hope y'all have a good Wednesday!

Oh, Holly..... I'm so, so sorry. In my decade or so, we lost a few. Some by accident, others, not so accidental. It's so hard -- on everyone. I'll keep them all (and you) in my prayers.

Day 1 (here) with our niece has gone well. So far, so good! lol I'm pooped! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Happy May....

please, girls, prayers. for one of my students who, without any warning, no signs, was a happy, beautiful girl well loved by all, had her prom dress, a new car told me Friday all about them. Then she shot herself in the night last night. Just before hand she typed into her facebook "i'm sorry..."
Today was a terrible day at school. Noone understands this tragic loss..prayers, please, for the family and the town. And please..remember to tell your loved ones that you love them..and if you choose to have guns, PLEASE lock them up..and separate them from the ammo.
Many suicides that involve pills, the person realizes its final and will call for help and be saved. Same if they cut. A bulllet in the head there is no going back from. no chance to change a mind. and no thought as to the ripple effect of what was done. She was 16 or 17. a Junior in high school with a bright, bright future. Her family is, of course crushed. as am I..and all her friends. It was such a difficult day. I ended up leaving 10 mins early. the stress got to me and i didnt have a class..and if they fire me for leaving so be it. i walked in the office, said i was having arrythmia, and left. It did stop on its own when i got home. And i know it was just the stress and grief.
To top it off, a 19 year old in Malone did the same thing yesterday. He hadnt gone to the high school here, but to Salmon River (Raine will know that one). He lived in Constable. Did he know Jackie? I dont know. I do know that 2 young people's lives were cut short with bullets, and their families will have to live with that forever, as will the rest of us. I'm sick of shutting up because its the polite thing to do. GUNS HAVE NO PLACE IN HOUSEHOLDS WITH CHILDREN. and i am sick to death of seeing front page glorification of "this cute little 9 year old proud to have her first gun"
I will defend forever an adults right to have one, but for God's sake, and everyones sake, PLEASE lock them up..and NEVER EVER EVER store the ammo with or in the firearm. You never know when your "right to have one" will turn into a tragedy. I'm sick of people i love being affected by this.
