This weekend, I'm running my first 5K in an event. (I've already done the distance, but on solo workouts.) Cycling is my first love, and I'm debating whether I should ride to the staging area. I won't have to ride home, because the Hubs will be there to cheer for me.
Because this is my first event, part of me says I should do whatever I can to make it as positive and successful as I can. That would militate against riding the 10 miles to the staging area.
However, I truly love being on the bike, and while riding there may increase my stress level, it will also make me happy. And if I drive there, I'll feel like I wimped out of an opportunity to ride.
I've tried doing a brick workout every few weeks, so I know how balky my legs are when I start to run after riding the 10 miles from work to home. If I ride, though, I plan to be there plenty early so I won't be stressed out about arriving on time, and to give me time to walk around and wake up my running legs.
I'd love to hear the thoughts and experiences of my more-experienced team mates!
Love God. Love your neighbor. Change the world. It really is that simple.
