I've accidentally grown potatoes in my kitchen, lol. I think I'm going to have to try the celery & pineapple! I've done garlic & green onions & keep thinking I will grow carrots in a container, they make pretty houseplants.

Wow this is funny, today I had just cut the bottom off one of my celery stalks and wondered if I could grown celery from that. Then I get on here and see this topic in the top 5, lol. That is great I may have to try and grow some from store bought celery.

I had my plant for a few years. I live in TN and would bring it in in the winter. And was always scratching my legs on it every time I walk past. You know how sharp the green is on them .... well that doesn't change. Mine got to be about 2 to 3 feet across ..... and sadly no fruit. I ended up just leaving it out for the winter one year and letting it die. emoticon

Oh, I could be patient if there were a chance of an actual pineapple at the end of the story. I would make everyone who visited my house greet the pineapple!

I started a pineapple almost a year ago and as a house plant so far is no bigger than a med. sized houseplant. Apparently it takes about 2 years to produce a pineapple, so you would need some space if you wanted a regular supply. I left it outside most of last summer and moved it inside when it started to get colder.

Is the pineapple plant charming enough to be worth the space if it doesn't bear? I had heard about re-growing pineapples, but I was really hoping I could get that tropical fruit to bear in my 42-degrees-north sunlight. emoticon Hope springs eternal.

I've heard of it being done and that the new celery will be smaller but still just as tasty. I've never done it. but I did grow a pineapple, but I never got any fruit off it. (when you get a whole pineapple, cut the top part off and place it in some soil and put in a sunny place. Keep the soil moist and it will grow. the plant gets huge and the leave are sharp.)

If you give it a try maybe you can post your updates here. Might as well get your money's worth with a 2nd crop lol. I never grown celery from seed and i was surprised how fast it was putting out leaves once we cut it from the base.

Awesome! I haven't tried that but I do regrow green onions in my laundry room :) and have replanted romaine after sprouting them but the rabbits kept pulling them out of the ground

I've seen a few people trying to regrow store bought celery and decided to give it a try. Going to have to do a update in a month or so. Has anyone else tried it? Here is my video.
