That's a good idea Terri. I've also been considering a small "garden" for the dog to bury her bones in. She replaced one bush bean plant with a bone.

My daughter lives at 9,300', so gardening is a challenge. With the horrible drought and then the wild fires, gardening has been a low priority. They've been putting all of their efforts into fire mitigation for the last couple of years.

It has been fun teaching the grandson about where food comes from.

Remember, nobody can go back to the very beginning and make a brand new start, but anyone can start here and make a brand new end.

I'm not surprised that your grandson thought he hated tomatoes if all he'd ever had were store-bought! I used to plant a cherry tomato plant at the end of my rows and told my little kids that was theirs to pick from. It kept them busy and out of the rest of my garden and it didn't matter if they accidentally "pruned" a branch or two because cherries are so prolific.

My five year old grandson told me that he hates tomatoes. Then I showed him how to pick the ripe cherry tomatoes and sent a bag home with him. My daughter says he's been eating those tomatoes for an afternoon snack this week. Now I'll have to expand the garden next year so that he can try even more fresh veggies.

I actually have a cucumber ready in my garden (yes, just 1), which is super early in my area. I'll probably pick it tonight to eat with dinner. I have a lot of tomatoes coming in too. I only did cukes and tomatoes this year since it's going to be a busy summer. We're also discussing trying to move next year, so I have a feeling I'll miss out having a garden next year as well.

I cannot buy corn in a grocery store. I grew up in a farming community and am used to buying my corn from the local farmers. I think I tried grocery store corn one time and didn't like it at all. And it claimed to be local, but it sure didn't taste like it. Maybe it had been sitting too long or something since it tastes best the day it's picked.

We joined a CSA this year and have been enjoying a LOT of spinach (okay, I have been enjoying the spinach - the kids not so much) emoticon No tomatoes, yet, but lots of greens and onions and rhubarb to compliment what I'm getting from my garden.

WooHoo! My tomatoes are still green and the squash a little too small, but we've been enjoying the Swiss Chard and romaine. When temps went over 100 this week, I had some second thoughts about the benefits, but it is nice to pick some fresh lettuce in the morning for salads at work. Tomorrow I should have enough snow peas for a stir fry!

Our farmer's markets are so crowded, they banned pets. I don't like crowds, so I'm going to stop at the farm stands when they open. I drive by several on my way home from work.

I caved and bought some corn on the cob at the grocery store this weekend. GMO? Monsanto has taken the joy out of eating an ear of corn!

Looking forward to the yellow squash casseroles, zuchinni quiche, acorn squash, home made pesto of tomatoes, onion, green pepper! Frost got apples so will have to make last years last longer. All without the commercial salt added content! Yeah fresh veggie tastes. Hoping for good wild berry crops.

No more having to buy those veggies at chain stores. Wish could use the food card at Farmers Markets!!!
