Ever heard of the book Guns Germs and Steel? Jared Diamond, I think, is the author, and he has a good explanation for how people got the idea to plant seeds. And I think drinking milk makes sense - we see the calves do it. I question the sense of eating lobster - what did we ever see eating that?!?

I think Broccoli Rose has a good point. That's why children generally don't like bitter things they gravitate to sweet, like fruits.

I think much of what was "eaten" way back when was most likely instinctual. Much like animals won't eat certain things...they just seem to "know" they shouldn't...

It is all fascinating isn't it. I think it all stemmed from survival. Eat it, try it or starve.

Oh yeah! And how did someone decide that certain things were edible like, ginger root, or celery root?

They must have been very brave or desperate.

I wonder how they figured out how to make bread. I imagine it was like this:
Caveman 1: Hey look at that tall grass over there. Let's mow it down and grind it up.
Caveman 2: Wow, that's a cool idea.
Caveman 1: And we'll take that chicken over there and get one of those things it poops out, and we'll mix that into the ground up grass.
Caveman2: Awesome idea!!! Let's go get that stuff out of the cow's boobs, too! We can mix it all up together!!!
Caveman 1: This is gonna be so gross!!!
Caveman 2: Maybe it won't be gross if we heat it up.
Caveman 1: You're right. Let's heat it until it turns solid.
Caveman 2: This stuff is great!!!! We're so smart!

I wonder how humans first discovered that saving the seeds from foods they ate could be used to grow more food. I realize that this happen thousands of years ago, but what an advancement for humans that must have been.

Not really, no. It's no weirder than eating whatever falls out of a chicken's rear end. Right?

Yes, I remember being teased that a watermelon would grow inside of me if a swallowed a watermelon seed. I am sure I thought that is what happen to the next pregnant woman I saw.
It is a good thing we have all those acids and enzymes inside us isn't it ?

Do you think this is weird?

While I was doing research on how to save seeds from a fresh tomato to plant next year... do you think it's weird that we eat seeds that if/when planted in soil, they would grow into plants, etc?
