Naw I've done potatoes in raised beds and you can still mound them up as they grow....

Thanks for your response. Do you buy potato bags, or use garbage bags? I'm not familiar with that method. I've heard of using a plastic garbage bin. I didn't mound these as they were growing. I've been mounding my yukon gold potatoes, but it's hard to do that in the raised beds (maybe I won't grow potatoes in them again.)

Thanks! I want to get them out of my way, but I was afraid of hurting the potatoes. emoticon

Yes, you can trim them. I usually trim off the buds (and sometimes more, if they're shading other plants) so that the energy from the plant won't go into making the flowers. My potatoes have always been just fine!

I don't know because I use potato bags. Just curious did you keep mounding dirt as they grew? My plants are mostly underground with maybe only 10 inches above.

I planted french fingerling potatoes in my Square Foot Garden beds this year, and the plants have gotten so huge and leggy that they've taken over my paths. Does anyone know if I can trim the plants without harming the potatoes?

Thanks much!
Marcy
