I am with Buffed Stuff and do primarily strength training... Just started to increase my cardio...not sure about the thread for workouts. Alot of us on this team do split routines, where we ST an area of the body on one day and then a different area another - example, chest with triceps, or back with biceps, legs with abs, and rotate... Most of us have our trackers turned on where you can see either our nutrition or fitness... I have been travelling so mine isn't up to date for the past 2 weeks, but planning on getting them updated over the weekend.

I use a trainer, but also do alot of reading and internet searches.

Good luck.

i've checked out 'the new rules of weight lifting for women' and 'the body fat solution' from the library. i'm hoping to finish them both in the next few days and see if that doesn't help.

i guess i'm curious to see what you guys are doing. is there a thread on here where we can post our strength programs to help give each other ideas?

I lost 78 pounds with SparkPeople and I've gained most of it back because I didn't make a PERMANENT lifestyle change; I'm back because I know the support here is an essential component to success. I'm practicing the EAT TO LIVE lifestyle and feeling healthier and happier every single day.

I got started with "The New Rules of Lifting for Women". It has worked for me. Of course, there are several good programs out there to use. And what works for men works for women, too. We just can't lift as heavy as men, but we can do the same exercises.

BFFM stand for Burn the Fat Feed The Muscle. A program by Tom Venuto

It is all about turning your body into a fat burning machine by doing mostly weight training. Well, I am one of those women who lost all my weight by doing weight training with very limited cardio. Partly because I was going for a sculpted, hardbody look versus the
I am a smaller verison of myself look.
I feel empowered by the iron.

hey good luck on this quest.

Congrats on your progress so far!!!

Just a few quicks thoughts before I have to sign off the computer....adding strength training a couple days a week is a great way to round out a fitness plan.
Do you belong to a gym, or do you currently do your workouts at home?
There are lots of books out there that can provide guidance.
Personally, I like the book "Body for Life for Women, by Pamela Peeke Md" She presents a well rounded total plan - giving dietary guidance, mental aspects of motivation, etc... as well as weightlifing guidance (with pictures and descriptions of proper form). She gives you a sample workout schedule of cardio and weights.

Just a thought. All her stuff can be done from home with a few simple pieces of equipment - dumbells etc....

Got to run.
Look forward to others giving some advice to you.
congrats on what you have accomplished so far!!!
:-)

sorry to be the dumb one around here, but what is BFFM?

i didn't want to jump in and steal the conversation from the other threads, so here i've started my own. i've lost 67 pounds from my highest weight, and while that's great, i feel like i still don't know what i'm doing. i have been eating well (i've started tracking again as of yesterday -- let me know if you see any glaring problems) and exercising, but i've started reading a lot about how cardio isn't the best form of exercise to get the kind of body i'm hoping for.

several people on this thread have talked about building a solid plan and program, and getting organized, which is exactly what i want and feel i need to do ... but i can't afford a trainer. i just don't want to keep wasting my time. i'm 5'8" and right now i weigh 158 pounds. i feel a heck of a lot better than i did at 225, but i want get rid of the rest fat and build the muscle.

all advice welcome!!
