Fortunately, my children eat healthier than I do. First, I buy fruit cups, individual servings. The kids pick which fruit they want. I buy enough that they can have at least two per day. They have one with lunch and one after dinner.

I limit the cracker/cookie snacks in the house. They get one a day--their choice whether it is with lunch or snack or dessert after dinner.

I also have cheese sticks and carrots, and fresh fruit in the house at all times.

Finally, I do not force my kids to eat everything on thier plate. My daughter is the only person I know who can eat 1/2 oreo and throw the other 1/2 away.

Given healthy choices, my kids make some pretty good choices. Took some time to get here. Don't give up.

What I had to do with my children was drastic. I just stopped buying certain foods and if they are hungry they can eat what I provide. A friend of mine that is a dietician told me that is what she did with her children . It worked with me. My children are willing to try more now that there are no choices. We always have bananas and apples available for snacks.

Psalm 27:4

I have four children, three of them are homeschooled. We are on the go and need healthy take along snacks. I am trying to get my children used to eating foods that are whole and not processed. Our snacks are generally apples, oranges, grapes, almonds, yogurt or cheese. We were not always like this and used to eat only crackers, chips, cookies, etc. When we are at home one of their favorite snacks is frozen bananas with some vanilla in the food processor , it makes banana "ice cream", it is the best !

I have a 2 year old that will not eat vegetables. I'm told this is pretty common though. He'll eat pretty much every kind of fruit though, so I figure that's a good thing. One of my go-to lunches for him that's super easy is just some deli meat roll-ups and a slice of cheese and a piece of fruit.

make your own trail mix and put healthy things you know your children will eat in it (for ex. nuts, cereals, dried fruits)

Good evening to all.... from a newby in SP, I really am looking for how to get my kids to try healthier choices. I figure with the whole family in the plan, it should be easier for all to lose weight.
I have 3 boyz : 12 yrs old, 9 yrs old and 3 yrs old. While the youngest is not a problem, my two older boys will not touch fruit unless it's in a pie... any reasonable suggestion will help. Thank you. emoticon

Couldn't share the seat with my son :(

Sliced apples and natural peanut butter (my favorite is Skippy).

Banana and peanut butter (natural) sandwiches.

Carrots and light ranch dressing.

English muffin pizzas (toast 1/2 an english muffin, top with pizza sauce, cheese & toppings of choice, microwave until cheese is melted).

Baked Dorito's and salsa.

Ham & string cheese roll-ups (pull string cheese in half and wrap each half up in a piece of cooked ham).

I found this recipe for Pumpkin Banana Bread on SparkRecipes.com. I use the aluminum pans when I make it and can get 3 loaves instead of 2. I prepare it in advance, and once cooled, I slice one loaf up and wrap each slice in saran wrap to keep in the refrigerator. The other loaves I freeze until ready to use. My kids and I all love it and it's great with a glass of milk or coffee.

Since being a parent means you likely have a busy lifestyle, I want to start getting everyone's suggestions for snacks that are good for the whole family. The snacks should be easy to make, tasty (since that's the only way anyone is going to want to eat it), and something that will be beneficial to our diets but give our kids energy.

In addition to posting your suggestions, please include the recipe (or a link to the recipe) and the nutritional information (not necessary if it's with the recipe).
