The heart rate monitor along with the food tracking feature are two of the tools most important for my weight loss. They help keep me in my food and workout ranges. I like my heart rate monitor. My only problem is that the monitors I've gotten (Polar brand) seem to have problems with the watch or the monitor/strap. I don't know if it's because we purchased them on eBay and not from Polar or because they are problems normal for all Polar HRM's. I would research them first and make sure they have the features you want and then buy one. I love having one and when I'm working out too hard I know it and adjust and when I'm working out too easily I step it up.
I use one and it has helped me two ways. First, I know exactly how hard I'm working. If I need to bump it up, I know it. It has really helped me to nail my intervals. Second, for those days when I can't make it to the gym (we all have this little thing called life that gets in the way!), I can strap on my monitor and go about me daily activities with umph! At the end of the day, I can track how many calories I burned and mine also tells me how many minutes I was in each range. It's helped me to stay on track and not give up when a speedbump comes!!
