Chiming in with my 2 cents (I've been hit and miss with sparkpeople for a few days, so I thought I'd better check in). I like both shows for different reasons, I guess. I did love the way the original SG-1 group was such a great team. I know it was those characters/actors, because I like Vala and Cameron okay, they just weren't the same. I liked Atlantis' characters, but they seemed more independent than SG1. I wish Syfy would start showing Atlantis again (I don't think it's on their schedule right now, unless it's on late at night). I haven't seen those in a long time (I have all of SG1, including the various movies, on DVD, but only have Atlantis' 'Rising' on DVD).

'Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW -- what a ride!

It's all nothing but opinions and everybody has their own! I just never developed much of an emotional attachment to the Atlantis characters (other than Dr. Beckett - he became my complete favorite, I really hated that he was killed). The team felt a little more artificial and forced to me. I just re-watched "The Light" last night and the whole thing in the beginning about Jack and Daniel having a bet, and Carter figuring out what it was, shows how much that group always communicated without even lines. I think Liane's right, they were just an absolutely perfect team and it's hard to expect anyone else to be the same. Really, they shouldn't be the same (you just can't make a second Jack, that's for sure).

I love Atlantis, and the characters, don't get me wrong. But from day 1, the foursome on SG1 were magic; simply one of the best ensembles EVER in scifi tv. Atlantis took time to get the group going, and the losses of Ford and Weir, the changes in leadership, it never had the chance to build to the level SG1 was at from the start. By the end of season 2 and into season 3, I think Atlantis had a great core sg team, and the actors built a great comraderie and rhythm. It took time and some really good acting to achieve it, though.

I don't mind debating it, for sure! I love to discuss two of my favorite shows and mean no disrespect to anyone else's opinions. Tell me what you think! :)

I respectfully disagree!! The relationships with the characters in Atlantis were great, just not the same as SG1. McKay cracked me up, and the others were all great, too.

Doing my best...one day at a time.

Could you post a link to that blog? I'd like to check it out.

I know what you mean about the Atlantis characters. They had magic with SG1, very hard to duplicate. I came to love Atlantis through total adoration of David Hewlett as McKay. There are a couple of great McKay episodes in season 5. Enjoy!

Kayak! How fun! I am happy with keeping my weight stable since Thanksgiving, now it's time to get back to trying to lose it.

Starting Atlantis season 5 next week for the first time! You know, the stories in Atlantis are really good but I just don't love the characters like I do SG-1. Does anyone else read Joseph Malozzi's blog? He talks about various episodes from his viewpoint as writer/showrunner or whatever he did on a given show, pretty interesting.

Great idea to start a new thread for the new year. I'm curious what everyone is doing for the new year to advance their health goals.
I got a kayak for Christmas, so I'm going to be trying to work out in ways that will help prepare my body for getting out paddling when weather permits. I'm also reducing my carb intake. That really went up, along with my weight, through the holidays.
What about ya'll?

I hope everyone had a good holiday. I'm also hoping that everyone will post their comments, questions, etc. and let us know how you are doing.
