I am on 80mg depo medrol injections every 2 weeks and I try walking every day with my dogs and do my Pilates rebounder as much as possible and as many times as possible! It is a challenge, but the shots are far better than the pills or IVs and I do have fewer of the side effects. I was so glad to have my cardiologist approve of the shots and tell me they are very well tolerated! Good luck with the cortisone battle...we are there with you!!!!!

I am on 5mg and can't seem to get below that. I had to go real slow or I will end up in the hospital because I flare so bad and fast. As for those types of reactions from Prednisone, my brother is allergic to it and almost died from it. So it can happen, just remember that this medicine is not natural to the body and it is synthetic too.
If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit. I do at least 100 crunches a day, working the different muscle groups, but that has so far resulted in just big obliques for some reason and they don't look very flattering! Like Linda said, crunches don't seem to get rid of the fat for me. I think I'm just not doing enough cardio to burn the fat. I used to run a lot but I can't now because Prednisone has ravaged both my hips and I have severe AVN. Any ideas on some rigorous cardio workouts that don't stress the hips?
As for Prednisone, I'm still on 60mg!! The last time I was on Prednisone (max dose 100mg/day), it took me 10 years to come off of it completely. I think it took 3 years to go from 10mg to nothing! I have hope that I will one day be Prednisone-free again since I've done it once before.
My dosage goes up and down but I am currently on 15 (which is good for me) and want to get under 10. Unfortunately, the Rheumy has kindly pointed out that whenever I get below 10 I flare. I do crunches and while they build muscle they do not remove belly fat--UGH!!
Gosh Melissa, I have heard of prednisone doing a lot of bad things but never that. Thank heaven you are OK!
I started at 50mg/day of pred. last March. But it ended up paralyzing me. I had to taper slowly because of the flare I was dealing with, but I got down to 10mg/day by June. I was not 'working out' at all during that time (doing cardio), except to do physical therapy to recover from the paralysis. Finally in November I was cleared to do cardio again and was down to 1mg/day. And in Dec. was allowed to go off the pred completely because of my bloodwork results. Instead I've been on Plaquenil. I had to 're-group' this past fall and work hard to lose the weight I gained while on the pred. Now that I'm back to where I started I'm trying to keep the scale moving and trying to be more consisten with work-outs. But it's always hard for me!

I don't mind doing them if they are really going to work. I was kind of resigned to the pred weight gain and belly. Pred is the only thing that seems to make a difference for me. Does anyone mind sharing what dose they are on? I'm always trying to cut down, but can only get down so far.
dare i say crunches? before pred. i did about 200/day of different types. now i'm working my way back up to 200/day. i'm at 100/day and do about 50 of them on upper abs and obliques with another 50 on lower abs. SP has some good ab exercises...some are floor (but some you can do them on your bed instead)and some are standing up. I have to be real careful doing them standing up because of my balance, but I can still get up and down off the floor or bed. I don't know if it will make a difference for you or not...either way you'll have a stronger core though!
I am wondering if anyone has suggestions about anything that can help get rid of the belly fat that is caused by prednisone?? The only suggestions I have heard are drinking more water and taking chromium. Does anyone have any ideas? Losing weight has only made it more noticeable. Thanks:)
