Hi all,

Sorry I haven't been here most of the week...with my kids off school most of the week and then my daughter sick I haven't had much of my own time. Plus my flare is getting worse. I'm seeing a new doctor on Monday so I am hopeful she will do some tests and that we can get me back on track in the next few weeks.

My son has a soccer game today and then I'm going to a women's gathering for the evening. It's women from one of the churches we've visited and we'll see how it goes.

All else is good here...looking forward to being back to my normal routines next week!

Take care all,
Melissa

Rainy here the past couple of days. Not helping the joint pain but hopefully this is the last day of it.
Have to finish getting recital music picked out for my students this week and of course all the normal house chores to get done.
Looking forward to some warmer weather and sunshine!

Kristy,
Kids just went back to school today! What a week! Because the schools are lumped together by county, our southern Forsyth county schools get closed because of the weather in northern Forsyth. The northern counties all had more ice and wind so many more areas with trees down, roads closed and power out than here. And snow and ice predicted for tonight! Hope you are staying warm down there ;)

It's been a time of getting kicked in the teeth for being kind at our house. Several different things have happened and other people seem to want to blame, shame or just be nasty lately. Yesterday a situation was unfolding with my daughter's girl scout troop and we were shocked at how awful the adults (moms) were being (online) and how the leader did nothing to stop it, and the girls lose out as a result. Then I was doing my devotional reading and a Scripture came up that perfectly fit the situation so my daughter and I prayed and agreed to just ignore what was going on and to continue to think about how to move forward. Last night she and I talked about leaving that troop and finding a new one. She suggested it and I support her. We've tried all year to support the leader, offer ideas, be there to help, and be positive only to get shut out, left out or shamed. We had a great conversation about the difference between forgiveness and abuse. Anyway, stuff like that has been happening in several arenas...so I'm glad I spent a lot of time reading Brene Brown this year! Our kids learn so much by watching how we handle situations and I'm so glad that I'm still learning better ways to handle my own feelings, as well as stand up to those who bully, blame, judge, shame or even abuse. Whew! ok...sorry that was so long!

I'm schedule to see a new dr. on March 2nd who is an MD but also does integrative medicine. I've been off my Plaquenil now for about 10 days because my rheum and primary care have new policies and not only can I not get in to see either of them for 3 months, they won't refill scrips without current labs. What a racket!

Anyway...keeping warm and safe here. Hope you all are planning to have a great weekend!

wow Melissa no school again. that make it a super long weekend.

I miss you Dorothy!

I had a great weekend with hubby. He surprised me with a few things for Valentine's day. Sunday was his birthday and we went out to Sushi!

It is cold today! Hope to get back to our normal temps.

Have a blessed day everyone!

My family arrived home safely from SC just before the ice storm really hit. Schools here were cancelled today and again for tomorrow because so many trees are down and not all the power has been restored and roads opened up yet.
We're good here...a few branches down but no major trees or damage on our property and out power has been fine so far. The kids are sick of each other and we'd all be better off being back on our schedules, but we'll survive ;)

I'm hoping to get to bed early tonight...still dealing with flare symptoms.

Take care everyone!

Really enjoyed watching the SNL40 last night...most of it was great and I loved seeing the old clips. My family is coming home today so I'll be happy to see them all. I have just a few chores and errands to do so I'll get to work on those next.

It is supposed to get icy and maybe we'll get a little snow later tonight or tomorrow. We'll see...it may stay a little farther north.

Kristy...how was your weekend?

Dorothy...how are you feeling?

Stay warm everyone!

Hi!

I have a 3-day weekend coming up too! Monday is Family Day here and most businesses are closed.

Thanks Melissa for noticing thatÖ.I do put conscious effort into being a positive example of how to live happy and active despite having a very serious illness so Iím glad one person noticed! Note the ďDispelling MythsĒ thread I started here. Iíve been so incredibly sick, hospitalized with lupus glumeronephritis three time...so I was pretty motivated to get healthy, and really appreciate being able to be active again. Actually Iíve started a lot of positive threads to help us feel empowered: Strong Women Have Strong Bones, One Step to Good Health, Rise and Shine, Positive Words A to Z, Overcoming Obstacles, Gentle Exercises, Music Therapy....

I still feel very strongly about the MMR vaccine. This is not me pushing my opinion on you, this is fact. If your pediatrician has *evidence* that the vaccine caused his sonís autism that would be one thing. But anecdotes are just stories, and donít have accurate statistics to prove anything. Without fact-driven medical consensus, itís just a hunch. Heís a doctor but that doesnít mean everything he says is true. Andrew Wakefield, who originally made the claim, has long ago been discredited and is even barred from practising medicine!

The measles are highly contagious, and can do serious harm to many people, including babies and people with underlying health issues, like us. So I feel it is important to explain, because we are the potential victims. Years ago I caught an infection I couldnít fight off because of SLE that caused me to need emergency open heart surgery! So I know first-hand how vulnerable we are to viruses and bacterium in the community. Exposure to the measles is an unnecessary risk the anti-vaxxers have forced upon all of us.

This 15 day old baby was exposed to measles near Toronto, when taken to the hospital for a checkup. His Mother was vaccinated, but is responsible enough to keep herself and her baby under quarantine so they donít spread it to anyone else, in case they have it. Babies cannot get vaccinated and she wonít know for 21 days whether he has it.
tinyurl.com/nulss8c

Itís been great to meet other people with SLE here. I was hoping for someone with kidney involvement to turn up! Because my lupus attacks my kidneys, my three major flares have been near-fatal. Iím not exaggerating, Iíve had some really scary times! Iíd like to meet someone else with lupus glumeronephritis.

Happily I havenít had a flare since 2004 and I have a pretty normal life! I wish the same for all of you!

Look for the great things in your day and focus on them, and keep active because motion is lotion!

Spark cheers!

Busy day with getting my son to a dr. appt, then home for Bible study, then returning phone calls and emails! Got in a good smoothie with my lunch today and the sun is shining here so even though I am tired I feel positive!

What is everyone doing for Valentine's day/weekend?

I forgot something important :)
Carla...you are an inspiration to me and to countless others. I never would have tried to run again if you had not been such an exuberant example. Just by sharing your journey you planted seeds that led to me working my way back to being out running again (shuffling really, but at least I'm out there)! You truly Sparked me! That's what we are about.

All of you inspire me...not because you are all perfect or know everything, but because you are working hard to live your best life despite all the stuff we deal with! Sick or well, when we post and share here we inspire, comfort, support and encourage others in ways that sometimes our families and friends cannot.

Let's keep that Spark going, shall we?!

Let's not judge here. We're meant to support one another and connect with one another, not judge choices.

I have had a conversation with a pediatrician whose son was vaccinated, got sick and regressed developmentally and is now considered on the autism spectrum. Many people don't understand how broad and diverse the autism spectrum of disorders is. And it is growing as new disorders are being identified. Sadly we won't know for many years which factors contribute the most auto-immune disorders as well as autism spectrum disorders because the research always lags behind.

Technically speaking my daughter falls on the autism spectrum, but her symptoms are comparatively mild. She was vaccinated on the standard schedule because I didn't know I was allowed to do anything else. However, I did change things for my son and I spread out his vacs and did not use the bundles. Because my son also had RSV and some other health issues from being a month premature, my pediatrician was very willing to work with me on an altered vac schedule.

For me what matters most is that we are not at the mercy of pharmaceuticals and insurance companies who think they can mandate health coverage and what treatments are needed or available. We all want the same thing...wellness. But we all have to travel our own path to get there. For some, doing things naturally is the only option because of reactions to pharmaceuticals. For others natural remedies are not enough.

The reason I've stayed on SparkPeople for so long is the support of groups like this. When I'm in a flare (like now) I've found encouragement, support and understanding because you all know what it's like. When we start judging each other that support breaks down and we are afraid to share what is really going on.
Sorry for the preaching...I just want to make sure we stay on track with the mission of Spark People and provide a supportive place for all team members to share regardless of how sick or well we feel from day to day or week to week.

A *miniscule* number of people get the measles despite having had the MMR vaccination. The vaccine provides full protection for 95% of people. People like us are in the 5% because of our autoimmune disease. Some can't get it for other reasons, some have weak immune systems from cancer or other illnesses. This is who gets the measles despite being vaccinated. Babies can't be vaccinated, so they're vulnerable if not enough people are vaccinated too.

From what I understand, a lot of American doctors are influenced by pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies. This is not so much of a problem in other countries, and it's definitely not the case for the academic journals which published significant, evidence-based, peer-reviewed research proving that there is no link between the MMR vaccine and autism.

The researchers who tested and re-tested, looking for a connection, were not getting lucrative perks for promoting certain medications and treatments. My partner and some of my friends are scientists, and believe me, peer-reviewed and evidence-based means overwhelmingly credible information!

I'm probably in the "vaccinated but susceptible" category because of my use of prednisone to protect my kidneys, so I'm going to get a measles titer test and see if I should be vaccinated again. It's airbourne, so it could be anywhere. If enough people were vaccinated, I wouldn't have to worry about this!

One of the common measles complications in adults is pneumonia...that's not something I want to have again! Have you had pneumonia since you got SLE? It hits hard!

Dorothy, you write so much about using "natural" treatments and home remedies, but you're constantly sick and in pain! So your medical opinions don't hold much water.

The evidence is overwhelming that the MMR vaccines are extremely low risk and extremely high benefit. It's unnecessary to have the measles going around in 2015.

I don't think anti-vaxxers are ignorant and I don't think they mean to be selfish. But there's a whole lot of evidence that the MMR vaccine and community immunity/herd immunity are safe and responsible, and I would have thought people with auto-immune diseases would be more conscientious about that.

The people that so-called proved that it does not cause autism are the ones that are being paid by the drug company and I don't trust them..

I had all three measles as a kid and so I am not going to have that test. Plus if vaccinations did work then how come the ones that are vaccinated are getting it still?

Dorothy

Has there been proof that the MMR vaccine bundle causes autism? If I get the measles, I'd probably be toast because of my long term use of prednisone to keep my kidneys going. I got the vaccine but some people who got it are still getting the measles now.

I'm going to get my titers checked to see if my vaccines are still protecting me.

Have any of you had this test? It's apparently sometimes recommended for people with SLE but I never heard of it until a dr suggested it to me yesterday:

Melissa ginger also helps to calm the stomach down too and so does peppermint oil. Just be careful with the peppermint, the cooling affect can be daunting.

Isn't it interesting how times have changed? The docs and media would like us to believe that everyone died from measles, mumps, rubella, rheumatic fever or chicken pox. Yes, they are preventable and scary, and many children did die. But many more survived. Having the vaccines is wonderful, but unfortunately the way many of them got bundled in the last 15-20 years has been harmful to many children. Sad how the government and the media has demonized doctors and parents who dare to go against the now 'standard' schedule and bundle of vacs.

Anyway...my DH is going to the dr today to see if he has strep or something. He had a long day of travel yesterday and was completely worn out today but felt he had to go in to work for a bit. My daughter came home and felt bad yesterday and started getting diarrhea...some kind of GI bug has hit her. This morning it hit my son at 5am. So they are both home and staying quiet. A little pepto has helped slow the diarrhea and a little sprite has calmed the tummies.
I'm fine, just dealing with the flare stuff and glad I can be home to take care of them.

Time to go...have to get a little bit of cleaning done ;)
Take care all,
Melissa

Melissa take care of yourself and I hope that your husband does not come down with what you all have. I am not sure if the weather is causing all your problems or that you are getting what your children have. Glad that the kids are better and are helping you out too. Hopefully your husband can fight this thing that he has. So sorry about what is happening with the girl scouts. Had that problem with a troupe but it was the leader of the group that was causing all the problems and also her daughter too. Ended up taking my daughter out of the group and she did not want to go to that group or another after that too.

No worries about the measles for me since I got all of them when I was little. My mother tried for all of us to get the mumps but that never happened. Our cousins had it but we did not catch it from them and we played with them too while they had it.

Kristy that is great about your daughter and making the deans list!!

Not much going on here and I got a small cement mixer to fix some stuff outside and then I am going to use it to mix my laundry detergent that I make. It will be easier to use that machine than try to roll the container around and get it mixed evenly.

I've already had all the measles -- rubella, roseola, red measles, rubeola -- the works. Back in the 50's, our mothers let us get measles so we would be immune. Same with mumps and chicken pox. No vaccines. We just had to suffer through them. I remember having one type and my brother getting me a huge piano box to sit in to block the light when my mother was reading to me as she sat on the bay window seat. I was four or five. It must have been rubeola, because I was very ill for a few days.

Hey Lupies!

No doubt you've heard about the measles popping up around North America. And some of the people who've contracted it had the vaccine! It's a little scary for people like us, who probably all take immuno-suppressant medication. I did get vaccinated for MMR, so hopefully I'm safe.

Melissa, hope you feel better soon. Do you take prednisone? A short-term high dose of it always snaps me out of a flare, but as you know it has some wild side effects! You know what has helped you recover in the past.

Yay Kristy! What an awesome family! So glad everyone is doing well. What an assignment to be in Hawaii! Hard work does pay off ;)

I'm still battling a lot of symptoms and not feeling well. Headaches, nausea, fatigue and pain today. Doing a lot of praying lately because my prayer list is long and I have to rest a lot ;) I use up most of my available energy each day with my piano lessons. The kids are helping with some chores and earning extra tablet time so that helps a lot. My DH is also helping a lot and has to travel tomorrow so I'll have a sitter come for the evening while I'm teaching. My DH is not feeling great either today so hopefully he's not coming down with something.

How is everyone else?
A big thank you shout out to Carla...thank you for taking care of the challenge and team stuff this month...you are AWESOME!

Take care everyone,

Get better Melissa. Sorry for the drama. Mom's should realize their kids see them acting up!

It was cold here too. It looked nice and sunny but the wind made it cold.

I am working on organizing everything in our house. This will be a slow process but it needs to be done.

My daughter made the Dean's List for her 1st semester in college. My son got orders to Hawaii. Hubby's first official day of retirement was Sunday. We are all very blessed!

Have a beautiful day!

Hi all,
Rough day here...cold and windy but not nearly as bad as in the North. I'm not feeling very good today and it's part of the lupus flare. Woke up dizzy and vomiting. I have it under control now so I'm going to get cleaned up and rest before the kids come home and before I have to teach.
Also had a lot of drama going on with our girl scout troop and I'm just so sick of it. I can't believe how awful some of the moms have behaved, and that the leader refuses to deal with it. So frustrating.
If you are in the snow and ice...stay in and stay safe and warm!

Take care all,
Melissa

I'm feeling a bit better but still have a lot of pain, fatigue and nausea along with a bunch of other random symptoms. I feel like I don't get much done each day, but I can't do much before I get tired and have to rest. The kids are helping out with chores and earning more screen time as a result so that's fine for now.

We all went out to see a movie last night so that was a good activity for us...enjoyed laughing together!
Planning to watch the Super Bowl tonight. I'm still working on a bunch of piano stuff...very busy month for my studio.

Take care all,

Hi! I just finished up my reports in the January Challenge thread.

Melissa, hope you're feeling better! I haven't had a serious flare since 2004 but I can still remember how horrible it is. I can't imagine having kids to take care of while feeling that way!

Hope everyone else is warm and cozy and feeling strong!

Hope that it heals fast and have you tried llysine to help with that too. That is what my rheumatologist told me to use when I broke out with all the sores in my mouth. You can get it at Walmart or the health food store. I crush mine and then hold it in my mouth and after a few minutes I swallow it, or I put it in some tea (about 2 ozs) and slowly drink it, depends on how bad the sores are.

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't been checking in here. I had to write last week and get it done for my deadline this past Monday. Now I'm in a terrible flare up. My mouth and tongue have so many ulcers and are so swollen that I can hardly eat. I did manage to get a green smoothie down with some extra veggies. I'm trying to get extra rest too.

Hang in there everyone...I'll try to check in more tomorrow!

American health care sounds so complicated! Dorothy, I hope you have your appointments set up by now.

I'm working away in my Cardiac Rehab program. It's a rigorous program, I think I'm getting stronger. Looking forward to re-doing the tests in a few weeks and seeing how much progress I've made in the past couple months of this.

Is anyone here in the blizzard area?

Melissa I have to stop in the doctors office and see what they are going to do since that is how my insurance is set up. My family doctor is the only one that can do that type of referral to see a pain management and also get the ball rolling on the full stress test

Hi all,
Dorothy...always something to repair. We have a long list of things to work on here too. Any luck getting in to see a pain doc?
Busy here but everyone is healthy.
Have to do some car maintenance tomorrow and get caught up on some cleaning. If the weather is good again tomorrow I need to get a good run/walk in.

Hope you all are having a good start to the week!

Melissa we did not get the rain but it was cloudy most of the week and got some sunshine yesterday and today. It is suppose to get rain Friday but we shall see. Glad that you are feeling better and the children are feeling better too.

Kristy how is it going with you too?

Was a quiet day today and yesterday and got some stuff to repair the sprinkler system for my garden. It is getting falling apart and plus I ran over some of it and now I have to keep my sprinkler system off until I repair that and it is attached to the lawn system too.

Hi all,

Finally some sunshine in this neck of the woods! What a relief after all the rain and fog.

Kids are feeling a bit better each day and they are at school working on getting caught up. They are good students and they just had great report cards so I know their teachers are not real worried about them missing a few days.

I am taking it a bit easy today. I know it will be a busy weekend so I'm enjoying some quiet time to myself today.

Dorothy...glad you are being proactive about the drs and getting in at the pain clinic.

Take care everyone!

Melissa hope that they continue to get better and get over that nasty virus that they have. As for missing school that can not be helped and make up is so long too. I remember missing a whole month because of a virus that I got. It was not fun to try to get all that school work done too.

Kristy glad that you have not caught any of the stuff that is going around because with what we have it is hard to get over it too.

Am taking it easy and trying different things to easy the pain. Will be calling or going in to see the doctor to see if I can get the ball rolling on the pain management too.

Hi all,

Did not get to check in yesterday since both kids were home sick. They are starting to feel better but this virus takes a while to get over I think. They both went back to school today and my daughter has a lot to make up since she missed 3 days.

I have a tree service here today getting two trees down that are at risk of damaging other trees if they fall on their own. They will get the trees down, but we will do the rest and get them cut up and split for firewood. We can get down some of the smaller trees ourselves, but these are much bigger and much harder so I had an arborist come out last fall to inspect them and now the tree service is carefully taking them down.

I have a lot to get caught up on inside the house, but don't really feel like cleaning today. It is cool and dreary here so and I should get lots of cleaning done since I have to stay here anyway while the tree crew is here.

Have a good day everyone!
Kristy...glad you have avoided all the crud so far this year.
Dorothy...I understand about the meds. This lupus can be a cruel thing. Rest when you can and take good care.

Dorothy I am so sorry to hear you are not getting your rest. I hope you can get some meds to help you with your pain and get some rest. You will be in my prayers!

Melissa hope the kiddos get better soon. I have not gotten sick this winter and I hope not to. I usually get a cold with a long lasting cough!! Prayers for y'all too.

It has been cold here this week. I have to bundle up at work because my office is so cold. Hope everyone has a great day!

Melissa it is also hard to lay down too since it seems to put pressure on my chest area because it seems that I am also in a flare. I don't want more drugs since the ones that I am taking don't work or if I have been on them a long time my body rebels against the drugs. That was why they had to take me off the methotrexate. My body rebelled against it.

Dorothy I hope you can get into a pain clinic quickly...I know how hard it is to function when you can't sleep because of the pain.

So many people are sick right now it is just unbelievable. My daughter was home sick yesterday and today...took her to doc today and the strep test is negative but they are sending it out for the overnight test so we'll see. My son went to school this morning but I had to go pick him up because the nurse called and now he is sick too. Poor kiddos! I've changed the menu and I'm making a big pot of chicken soup for tonight. Several of my piano lessons have cancelled today too.

I'm feeling pretty good...just need to get a little more rest tonight. I'm constantly cleaning now and wiping things down so that we don't keep passing things to each other.

Hope everyone else is well!

Had a ruff night and did not sleep well because of the pain. Will need to get to a pain center to see what they can do for me. Will tell my family doctor to go ahead and start it too.

Melissa glad that you are feeling better and that the recital went well too.

Hi all,

How was everyone's weekend?

My piano recital went very well yesterday. My students all did a wonderful job! So proud of them. We had an amazing piano to play...very top of the line and it was incredible!
We ended up eating at an authentic Mexican place last night and was so good. Very fresh ingredients and they had the best corn tortillas. And portions were huge so having leftovers tonight ;)

Went to a different church today for their contemporary service and it wasn't so good so we'll keep trying. We did get to see a few friends so that was good.
My DH went out and did the grocery shopping while I got the rest of the decorations down. He and the kids did the outdoor ones yesterday and got the tree down so I just had all the other stuff to pack up. Now we're just getting ready for the week...getting everyone's snacks and lunches prepped. Busy but productive day!

Time to go...my break is over ;)
Take care,
Melissa

My blood pressure is normal and I know that I need to get back to working out better too. But since my husband passed have no energy or not wanting to do anything too,

Glad that you are feeling better and hope that your son gets better too. Chicken soup is good for that too. Not the kind that you get in a can but the homemade one is the best.

ok Dorothy...now I understand what the doctor is doing. It will be good to see the cardiologist. Does your blood pressure seem ok? Before my mom got a pacemaker she got very tired all the time. Not saying you need a pacer, but I'm sure there is an explanation.

I'm feeling better each day. My son is home sick...he woke up with diarrhea and flu like symptoms so I kept him home. He is eating a little bit now but still pale.

I have a few things to finish up before my recital tomorrow, but all my students are in good shape and I'm getting excited!

Have a great day everyone and stay warm!

Melissa he is the one that suggested that I need to see the cardio doctor and that he is sending the info to my family doctor since my family doctor is the one that has to get it through the system. As for the pain I think he wants to wait until we find out what is going on.

Kristy that is great that on the crocheting and wish that I knew how to do that. '

Not doing much today but did try to clean some but will have to do more tomorrow.

Kristy...my daughter got a crochet book for Christmas with some new needles and yarn. I've taught her basic stitches but have forgotten the harder ones. I looked through her book and did a little reviewing of my own during the break but haven't made anything yet. Good for you for getting some projects done! Always feels good...and perfect timing on the scarf!

Dorothy...what did the rheum say...anything? any suggestions for the pain?

emoticon
I have some mixed emotions today because our girl scout troop leader has been swayed by the other moms and made some decisions that I don't agree with, but I'm choosing to back off and hold my tongue. I know she is doing the best she can and the other moms can be very tough to deal with. I just also know how my daughter sees the situation and her trust in adults right now is very low because of several things that have happened. I can't say that I blame her.

I went to bed early last night and it really helped. I'm feeling better each day even though my voice still sounds froggy. Hopefully that will be gone by Saturday because my recital is that afternoon. Time to go...have to get some ham and bean soup going!

Take care all,
Melissa

Melissa I agree with Kris and that you need to get rest too. It is better to cancel than to give it to them and then they give it back to you. Not the best way to give too. emoticon

Kris that is great that you are able to do that and congrats on finishing the scarf.

As for me not sure what my family doctor will say because I will see him in March but he should have the report from my rheumatologist by now. Have to go to the office and also see why my referral did not go through for my rheumatologist too and will ask for the pain management one too.

Hi there,

Just a quick check in today...I headed the SmallChanges challenge and took care of myself today by taking myself to the doctor. I tested positive for strep so all of my afternoon piano lessons are cancelled so I can rest. Bummer though...back to bed for me with more tea!

Take good care everyone and stay warm!

Hi all,

Kristy...good for you on the junk food challenge and the January SP challenge! The only junk food I could not give up is chocolate. I have a little bit each day after lunch...good dark chocolate. We've also switched to the organic blue corn chips and they taste so much better and are a wee bit better for you. Portion control is key for me on that one! You can do this...just have a few swaps ready for those tempting moments!

Dorothy...how are you feeling today? let us know how your doctor's appt goes.

My chest is really congested today and I didn't sleep well last night. But I'm going to keep up with the Ginger and turmeric tea. The kids are home one more day so they are helping out and getting some chores done for me to earn extra screen time.
I have piano lessons this afternoon and evening so I need to make sure I don't overdo it today. We have a recital this coming Saturday so hopefully everyone is ready!

Take good care everyone!

Get better Dorothy and Melissa!

My back has been hurting since 12/28 but is much better today. I had to take it easy last week but was able to walk the dog everyday. I have scoliosis and if I don't exercise (like I didn't the week of Christmas) I have lots of pain. The weird thing is the pain is in different areas every day! I did some yoga stretches on Saturday and that seemed to help. Back to my exercise classes this week!

I also started a 21 day no junk food challenge today:
No chocolate
no Candy
no biscuits or cookies
no cake, donuts or muffins
no pastries
not white bread
no chips
no fast food not soda
no ice cream

I think I can do it. The hardest part is going to be no soda!

Have a great day y'all!

It is not a virus because this has been happening for some time now. It is in the doctors hands right now and most of all it is in God's hands. I don't have any nausea or anything like that.

Have you tried putting honey also in your tea too? There is a tea for the throat that will help with the soreness. You can get it at pubilx if you have one where you live or at a health food store,.

Hi all,

Dorothy...be careful that you don't have a virus. My mom was just in the hospital last week and she thought she had the flu but it's a virus. There are some nasty viruses out there so get help if you need it. She was put on an anti nausea med so that she can eat a little and the doc there said the virus lasts about 2 weeks in the GI tract and she will have no energy and to stay in bed as much as possible.

I'm battling a cold now. Had a sore throat yesterday but still worked out. Had tea with ginger all afternoon but nothing seemed to help the throat. I'm in bed this morning but doing my piano invoices and some other prep work for piano. I have games to get ready for the month and our recital is next Saturday so I have to get the program printed for that. I'm not going to run today, but I am going to do a yoga stretch workout and a short core workout.

Rainy here again today. How is everyone else doing?

Having a quiet day but did mow the front to make it look nice, will do more tomorrow with the yard but had to get the front mowed so that I don't get any complaints. Need to figure out how to start the weedwacker and not rely on my son to tell me how to do it.

Welcome to 2015 everyone! emoticon

Having an easy and lazy day here. Planning to go for a walk a little later, but we're working on some projects with the kids for now. I'm doing some sewing for the kids and my DH is helping them work on their Pinewood Derby cars.

Hope you all have a great first day of 2015!

Hi all,

Kristy...glad your FIL is okay...I saw some pictures of damage of the area...looked bad.
Dorothy...I know there are some weird viruses going around too so I'm glad you are seeing the doc soon.

How is everyone else doing?

We went bowling this morning...they had a special deal going on for New Years so the kids got to toast with apple juice at noon and they did a huge balloon drop. They had hundreds of balloons released from the ceiling and some had special tickets in them that could be redeemed for prizes or games in the arcade. I called a friend of mine after we got there and they came over to join us so it was a fun little outing. Not much else going on today and no plans for tonight.

Have a safe and Happy New Years Eve everyone!

Kristy glad that your father is ok and did not get hurt in that weather.

Melissa glad that you had a good time at the Nutcracker too.

Not much going on today, but am trying to get some exercise in. I am being careful until I find out what is going on and will see if that is also causing my to be so tired too.,

Hey everyone!

Thanks for the waves Melissa. We had a tornado warning last Tuesday and today. One hit my father in law's work and thank the Lord he is ok!

I am back to work after a wonderful week off. I even made it to the gym today and did better than I thought I would in circuit training class.

Hope you are feeling better Dorothy!

Dorothy...glad you told the doctor about the pain and are getting it checked out.

Trying to get organized for the week and get a lot of cleaning done. Had a good weekend here. We made our traditional lefse on Saturday so we have that done and it tastes so good even though it has gluten. I had 3 pieces Saturday while it was fresh, but I'm done now. The rest is frozen and packaged up to send to family. We have one package in our fridge that DH and my son can eat, but my daughter and I are done ;) I also got my Christmas cards done so they are going out today. Yesterday afternoon we went to the Atlanta Ballet's Nutcracker and it was wonderful! We had incredible seats and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

No plans here for New Years. How about everyone else? What are you all doing to celebrate the New Year?

Take care everyone!

Wow you are so busy and going to the funeral too. I knew that you were coming down here but I also know that it was a tight schedule for you too since it is the holiday season too. So much to do when you have family.

Right now I am taking it easy since I went to my rheumy doctor and did tell him about the pain is the chest area. He did ask if it was heartburn but I do know what heartburn is so he will recommend to my family doctor to send me to a cardiologist to see if anything is going on with it. Not sure when that will be but will let you know when that is going to happen.

Hi all,

Sorry I've been gone so long from here. Too much going on and a few things had to get dropped. But I'm back!
We had a good Christmas here with just our family. Opened gifts yesterday morning and then had a traditional Danish brunch. Relaxed and then we made Swedish meatballs for dinner...so good! I am finally catching up on rest...fell asleep at 9pm last night and didn't wake up until 8:30am this morning! Feeling better today so I may go for a run later.

I did end up going to my cousin's memorial service in FL. We decided that since we couldn't find boarding for the dog and my DH really needed to stay and work, that I would take the kids down. So we left last Friday at noon and drove down to my parent's condo. Then went to the memorial service on Saturday which was good but hard. Good to see my other cousins and relatives, but hard to say goodbye. My cousin's husband is a Lutheran pastor in Iowa, but the local pastor in FL let Perry do most of the memorial service which was very special for us in the family. He did a wonderful job. My brother in Orlando also drove down with his wife so it was good for most of our family to be together too.
Last Sunday we did a little Christmas with my parents and then my brother and his wife also came over for dinner. Good to spend a little time with them. Monday we helped clean the condo and did some baking and got packed. We left early Tuesday morning and it was a very long drive back home. The kids did great, but the rain was hard and constant.
Kristy...I thought of you and waved each time we passed by your neck of the woods!
Dorothy...sorry we didn't have time to visit on this trip. Next time I will call you and look forward to getting together again!

For Christmas I put new tires on my van (before I drove to FL) and got a new small laptop/tablet since my old laptop keeps dying. I'm still figuring out how to use this little thing, but so far so good. I really like that it is so light and portable. The kids got new tablets for Christmas, but we gave them early because I knew they would be happier traveling if they had new tablets to use for reading and games.

I still have cards to get out, but will work on them this weekend. Today I need to get some exercise and get some cleaning done. Tonight we'll peel potatoes and get ready to make our traditional Lefse tomorrow (Norwegian). Sunday afternoon we have tickets to the Atlanta ballet's Nutcracker so we are looking forward to that! We got very good tickets (at a very big discount) through a Girl Scout promotion this fall and we're going with 2 other families so my daughter can't wait to see professional dancers in action!

How is everyone else doing? Did you all get together with family?
Is anyone getting any workouts in?
Take care everyone!
Melissa

Oh Melissa, you've got a lot on your plate. Very sorry to hear that. Take good care of yourself as much as you can inside this chaos.

Dorothy, you seem to flare often. Have you mentioned that to your doctor? Maybe you need to get your treatment plan tweaked so you can feel better and be able to do more.

Congratulations on finishing your degree Kristy! Think I said so before. It's so liberating to not *have* to read so much every day!

Praying for you too Dorothy. I hope you and Melissa get the rest you need and get over the flares. Stress really does bring out the worst.

I am all done with my degree now. I will not be walking because the graduation is in May and in Maryland (I did online classes). I should get my degree in the mail in January. I will post a picture for you all to see. I really appreciate the prayers from all the wonderful butterflies I have here!

God bless!

Melissa wow you have your hands full right now and yes the flare will come when you are under stress, wish it was not so but I have found that happens to me too when I am under stress so be gentle on yourself and take care with what is going on in the family too. We want you to be here with us but we do know that you also need to take care of yourself and get healthy too. Just make sure that you do pace yourself and not get stretched too far.

Kristy that is great that you are now finished with school. Now are you done all together with school or just this term?

Not really doing much since my lupus is flaring and it is hitting my chest area and makes it painful and also has me out of breath too. Just have to wait until it passes and do more with working out then.

Hi all,
Sorry to be absent for two weeks here. It has been a rough couple weeks with lots of sad stuff happening. I'm okay and so is my family but there's been a lot thrown at us so we are trying to adjust to a lot of changes.
A colleague and friend who was on staff at our church was unexpectedly and unfairly fired two weeks ago and I've been helping her through it because unfortunately I went through something all too similar several years ago. We were planning to leave our church anyway after this school year, but now we are done.
This past Sunday my cousin passed away suddenly after finding out about a week ago that she had pancreatic cancer. The blessing is that she did not suffer, but no one had time to prepare. We are making the decision this weekend about whether the kids and I will go to FL for the memorial service.
Then yesterday a former piano family (and friend) of mine got the news that the docs here don't think there is anything else they can do for her cancer. She is suffering greatly right now and they just aren't sure what to do.
It has been a long couple of weeks with many tears and feeling overwhelmed by so much. There have been bright spots too, and moments of joy along with everything, but it has really brought the Scriptures of this Advent season into sharp focus for me.
I know I'm in a flare right now so I'm trying to be extra gentle on myself. Any prayers you can spare would be appreciated for us and for my friend Cheryl whose cancer keeps spreading even after 15 chemos.

I'm not trying to be a downer...just got hit with a few too many things at once. Hopefully this weekend I can sort a few things out and be more like myself again.

Take care everyone and hug the ones close to you,
Melissa

emoticon emoticon Keep flying, Team Butterfly! I feel great! I got a lot of nagging chores done over the weekend and I've been eating great food. I'm starting to feel like I don't have to think about calories anymore because I'm not craving high calorie food anymore. It's working, I've dropped 8 pounds since September! I still fit into my clothes though I feel some space in my waistbands. I think it's mostly from cutting way down on sugar and bread, I'm less bloated. I feel super!

Hello Everyone!

I am done with school! I got a B out of the class and that works for me! We had a wonderful quiet Thanksgiving with so much to be thankful for.

Thanks for the healthy tips and I will check out the DEC challenge. A coworker and myself are going to work out every week day. This will be a challenge for us since they cut out two of our work out classes and the showers are closed until FEB. We are determined to do it and two day already down!

I hope you all are having a wonderful day! I am really relaxed and this is what I was really looked forward to.

Thanks Carla!
We had our first gluten free Thanksgiving and it was good ;)
Turkey, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans, broccoli, and gf pumpkin bread. And I didn't put too much on my plate! I did miss the stuffing this year, but I can find a recipe for next year.
Just got back from a 5k training run/walk with my son...good to have the company and do that together. Much better than being out shopping today!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Kristy that sounds like a wonderful celebration! Enjoy!
Dorothy...what are you and your son doing? Will you see your daughter too?

It's just us for Thanksgiving too. I've been working with the kids the past two days to clean the house...deep clean. My DH got groceries yesterday and he brined the turkey last night. He also made a gluten free pumpkin bread. I had looked for some gluten free pumpkin desserts but most of them lots of other ingredients we either couldn't have or things I did not have on hand. Anyway we'll do lots of good cooking today and enjoy a good meal.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Hi
Working on the last question on my final final!!! My professor extended the due date to tomorrow but I am going to have it done today!!! I am so excited to start my Thanksgiving cooking tomorrow. I'm going to make cranberries, sprite cake and the corn bread for the dressing. We'll also brine the turkey tomorrow. My hubby and daughter are a great help with all the cooking and cleaning. I am looking forward to spending time together. We'll put on some music and sing our hearts out. We also talk about all our other Thanksgivings and have some good laughs. I'll just be missing my son but at least he is not deployed and is safe in the states!

God bless you and your families! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

Thank you!
It's cold almost everywhere right now. I'm keeping humidifiers going too. My kids have been sick on and off this week. Yesterday my son tested positive for strep so he is home again today. My daughter went to school but I told her if she didn't feel well that she could go to the nurse's office and I would go get her. So far so good so hopefully she has perked up a bit.
My DH left this morning for Calgary and will be home Saturday morning. We have a very busy few days ahead with my daughter's birthday and her ballet recital on Saturday.
I'm also a writer this week and trying to get Christmas and recital music out to my piano students!

Thank goodness we can all be home and rest next week!
What is everyone doing for Thanksgiving?

Just got great news! My mom's breast biopsy last week came back benign...the cancer has not returned! She can now finally celebrate being a 5 yr. breast cancer survivor!
Hopefully she can start to rest now and relax. She's in a bad flare so I assume that's what has been making her feel so bad the last several weeks.

Dorothy

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

Let's make it a great week everyone!
A very busy and productive day yesterday. Taught Sunday school, then home to get lots done to get ready for the week. My DH installed a new faucet in the guest bath because the other one had broken. Now I need to go clean in there.
It's a rainy and cool day here and I'll get my cardio in while I clean today. I have a writing conference call this afternoon and then I'll get my writing assignment for the week. So it's going to be busy here! I'll try to check in when I can this week.

Take care everyone!
Melissa
