Is anyone having trouble changing your font on your SparkPage? This is making me nuts! I hate curly-q serif fonts. I select a different font then save but it doesn't change. AAAAAHHHHHHH.... run screaming into the night! emoticon

Twist - I know what you were saying about the "reply" button beside each post. However, that still will only show that post that I'm replying to. If I want to comment on each person that has posted since my last post, I can't unless I make notes. 'cause I can only see one post at a time as I reply. I don't want to make a separate reply to each person - that becomes too much for everyone to go thru when reading them. Oh well - I'll just have to check back more often so that I don't have so many to reply to. LOL!!!

Seeing as Dave and his Spark friends seem so open to suggestions, I would say to submit a ticket to them and see what they say! Can't hurt to ask, eh?

There is no copy day. However you can make Food Groupings where you put together foods you usually eat together, so you can enter the whole meal as one item. Food Groupings are on the third tab, after Favorites.

I did a quick scan of this thread so sorry if this has been answered and I didn't see it: Does anyone know if you can "Copy Day" like you can in the CK food DB? I sometimes like to eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch a few days in a row and it would be really great if I didn't have to enter it new each day. Thanks!

Another discovery -- don't think I shared this yet.

When you go to the reports page, and select a particular type of report (e.g. fitness) you can click on each bar for a week/month, etc, and see the breakdown of your exercise/other goals and so on.

So when it says you missed 3 opportunities for other goals, you can see which/and what days. Or when it shows a 4x (as an example) in a bar for exercise, you can see which days you exercised and how many calories you burned, by clicking on the bar.

ahhh granular reporting

I discovered two more things:

1. When you use the strength training program, if yuo don't like a particular exercise you can click on it. It will open a window listing all other weight training exercises by category, allowing you to click on another comparable exercise to substitute the one you don't like.

2. (and this is for Karen/fatbegone2006) If you want to see a particular post from a thread that you want to reply to -- e.g. the 4th or 7th or 10th post in a thread is the one you want to reply to -- if you click the reply button next to *that* particular post, then that's the message you'll see in the preview pane when you are replying, rather than the last message of thread.

Hey Karen, just as a further FYI, I clicked on your "this is a test" blog link (from our sparkteam page) and it says that this user cannot be found... I suspect this goes hand in hand with you not being in the directory either.

I would say if you are checked to be included to be in the directory, then submit a ticket (which you know will be answered - how exciting!)

Thanks Twist - I'll check again but, I think I have it marked to show me in the directory.

Subscribing - that makes sense, I guess. LOL!!

I'll send you an email and see if you get it.

Ok - I did some tests and here's what I found re: searching for members.

1. In each member's spark page, they have settings to specify by which parameters they can be looked up (zip, gender, age, purpose for being here).

2. In the same page, there's a checkbox where they can specify to be listed in the member directory.

When I tried searching on fatbegone2006, I got nothing. When I typed in fatbe, I got 2 results (none of which were you, Karen -- so perhaps we'll get more insight based on your settings).

When I tried searching for myself or Joey as VitaminJ, we both came up in the searches.

So I don't think you are doing something specifically wrong so much as your friends/family may not have set their preferences in such a way that they can be searched on.

Subscribe to this discussion:
You can receive notifications when someone posts to a thread. How this differs from "notify me when anyone replies to this topic" (the checkbox under each message you compose) is that the former will allow you to lurk. Meaning, you can be notified by email about thread updates without ever posting to that thread. It may seem moot for the team you've already joined, but you could use this to determine if you want to join other teams.

re: the email -- I'm not certain of that setting. I do know that you and I have exchanged an email so perhaps it's again more of a question as to what preferences each member has set.

I hope this helps.

I came here with a question but, after reading all the posts I can't remember what my question was! emoticon

Oh yea - I've been trying to search for names in CK and can't find any of you. I tried to search for my username and it didn't even pick it up in the messages . . . how can that be?

I wanted to send 'my friends' an email to let them know that I'm here but, I got a message that 'none of my friends are accepting SparkMail'. How do you make sure that you can accept 'sparkmail'? I have the box checked on my spark page to accept mail from my friends - would you try sending me sparkmail and see what happens?

I had another question but can't remember it right now . . . I'll be baaaack!

I remember . . . what does it mean to 'subscribe to this discussion'? I think I see that on blogs and spark pages too. What does that mean? I already have joined the group so why should I 'subscribe to the discussion'?

Karen

There is a cool feature - Food Pics. You can take a picture of a meal or whatever with your cell phone and then send the picture to a special e-mail address taht you set up on SP. You can view the picture while you are logging your food! To find this new feature, click on MY TOOLS on the bar at the top. Click on Start. Go to the bottom left of the page to Popular Links and look for Food Pics under that. The instructions and setup link are there.

Well, at least you're in the right place!

From the Start page, click Weigh In.
By default, under the date banner, there should be fields to enter weight, waist and neck.

Use the arrows to the left and right of the date (e.g. July 10) or the calendar icon to select the date for your weigh in.

Type in the values in the boxes to the right of each label and click Save.

Last Entry will automatically populate.

Click Change Measurements to create new fields you want to track, like thighs, chest, etc.

Hope this helps - if not, let us know!

I have NOT spent time exploring this site- sorry..
please excuse me if I am asking a question that has been asked before?

I found the little tracker for setting up a cutesy weight recorder- with starting and goal weights- but I can't figure out how to record my current weight!

I clicked on "weigh in" but when I get to that page, I'm clueless.. I can click on all sorts of things (a measuring tape. a save button. arrows for dates.) but.. ? !! I haven't been able to figure out how to enter in a weight! 'today's entry' and 'last entry' are non-clickable..

how do I solve this dilemma..? (translation: how dumb am I!?)

I spent way too much time on this site today. I barely did any work. It's a bit tough to navigate and somewhat overwhelming. There is a ton of great info here though. And I am glad you are all here too. I tried to comment on some of the forums but I feel like an outsider. Maybe that's how it was at when I first joined CK.

Peace

Is there a way to adjust the calories burned for your cardio? SP says I burned over 1000 calories on the elliptical when my HRM said only about 750. emoticon

Also, has anyone found a setting to subtract the exercise calories like CK does?

Re: Strength Training Calories

Here is SP's explanation on why they don't add in strength training calories.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One frequently asked question is why you cannot calculate your “calories burned” from the strength training exercises in the Fitness Planner. You will burn calories while strength training, but that number can vary widely from person to person. Your current fitness level, amount of muscle, and intensity of your workout are all variables that make it difficult to determine an average number of calories burned.
Even though you can’t track the calories, strength training builds muscle which increases your metabolism, helping with weight loss. It is an important part of any exercise program.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yeah..I don't really like that. I suppose that I'll still enter my calories burned for strength by entering into the cardio section with an indication that it is strength training. Hmph. That's not cool!

How do you get the sparkpoints to show by your name like Twistolomew or VitaminJ?? I can't find the settings!!!

And now that I've typed this reply THREE times & lost it because I tried to put an icon up, how come we can't use the icons they have without losing our post??

I keep getting the message that says we can't use HTML code here, and if we can't use it - why do they have them!?!

NM - I figured it out, there's a sparkpoints set-up page with a little box you have to check to have them show up. emoticon

and for some reason - now I'm "allowed" to use the icons where before it wouldn't let me!!!

Is there a way to incorporate the exercise calories that I've burned into my day's totals so that it shows the true net calorie count for the day (what I've eaten minus calories burned)? I can't figure this out yet. Anyone know? emoticon

As for whether it's more overwhelming than CK... At first I was going to say yes, but thinking back, most of us started there with one or two functions-- we only logged, or we only read forums, or we just blogged. Slowly, over weeks or even months, we noticed new things to do. Here, we're trying to figure out in an hour how to do *everything* you could do at CK. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what my problem is.

Although I have to say... I HATE the ads. emoticon On the other hand, everything seems really fast!

In the fitness section you can easily add a custom activity. You will be asked to add an activity name, minutes and calories burned.

This is great for those who use an HRM...no more calculating your calories/minute on a custom exercise!

For those who want to enter in measurements:

From the Start page
(If you're not there Click My Tools - Start)
Click Weigh In (s/b the 3rd option on the left under food tracker and fitness tracker)

By default you'll be prompted to enter measurements for your neck, waist and hips.
You can click on Change Measurements to add other values, such as Thigh or Chest.
In addition, to the right of each entry (under change measurements) there's a Remove button you can click to no longer track certain values.

When you're done, click Back to Goal Tracking and start entering your weigh/measure-ins

Hope this helps!

OK, I just realized that I was reading these posts backwards!! I think I can switch it so it's like it was at CK, with the first post on top.

I'm also getting flooded with emails, but I see a box under where I am typing now that says "I want an email sent to me whan anyone replies to this topic"

I just un-checked it.Hopefully that will solve that problem.

Melinda if you go to your start page, there's a link towards the bottom that's something like "read about fast break stage" that gives you a lot of beginner type info the same as the first stage of CKU. I would guess that as you move forward you'll get more and more stuff. I just kind of clicked around until I figured out what everything did, the recipe box is my new favorite!!!!!

I'm totally stressing about how confusing this is! Maybe CK was like this when I first started, and I don't remember it, either. I don't remember feeling stressed about it, though.

And when will we ever need this:

emoticon ???????

Maybe if Joey gets red cabbage from his co-op, he can show it to us? emoticon

Seriously, I just don't think I get how this works. Someone mentioned getting emails. I haven't gotten any, even in my bulk mail. Is there something here that is like CKU? I feel so lost and out of my zone.

If you click on "My Tools," then "Planner," you will see a place to "Journal." Within each journal entry you can choose whether or not to put that journal entry in your blog.

I don't believe the journal entries (or anything in the planner) are public.

Another thing you can do:

Don't reinvent the wheel -- you can copy any of your custom food or regular recipe nutritional information into SP as a "food not listed."

Oh! Now that you say what they are, I totally see it. I thought it might be two bears wrestling. Total duck-rabbit phenomenon!!

(and THAT must be why they give a duck and rabbit icon. I know, I know - the first thing is a chick. Whatever)

The Teddy Bear on the right is having a panic attack because someone moved the almonds and he can't seem to find them and he needs his Ryvita Fruit Crisp and Almonds snack!!!!!

While you can't have enough teddy bears, I would have to say that the while the one on the left is indeed a cute T-bear, the one on the right seems to be a screaming gingerbread person.

Hahahahahahaha - you found a Hitler icon.

Some of them are just so wacky - why would anyone need a white bunny icon? There are TWO teddy bears (ug - just as bad as the CK clown) ... and what in god's name is THIS:

Yep, Sarah..I think CK was this confusing...it's just that we are used to it now. It will take a few more days for me to really understand everything here...it's does seem a little more fragmented than CK.

Keep poking around, Sarah! I felt that way this morning, but it is starting to come together.

And I like it!

Excellent idea!

First tip:
On your log page, if you open the "add food" sub-window (which stays open for adding multiple foods - YAY!) there is a link to "add a food not listed" in the upper right and of the little window. You can put in the nutritional info for whatever you like in there, and it will stay in your list (and maybe be available to others?).
