I have a lot of hair. Thick hair but all my gray hair grows on the side of my head and close to the forehead. I'm always buying hair dye and it really sucks because they don't last too long. Is there any kind of dye that lasts more than a few weeks?

Because I am a very busy brunette and prefer coloring my own hair, there are those times when I just can't find the time to do the whole 45 min to an hour color thing. So my dear sister-n-law shared her awesome, time-saving secret with me. Pick up a box (closest to your color) of Men's Mustache & Beard permanent dye. It is meant for their very course gray beard hair and cover totally in only 5 minutes...YES, I SAID 5 Minutes. I mix enough only to do my middle part and the roots around my face...hairline at forehead and sides. Presto! Done! Get in shower, rinse and style and I can go another couple of weeks until I have the time to do the whole box deal. I wish they would make the men's formula by the quart for women. It is so powerful and covers stubborn grey totally! TRY IT...You'll LOVE IT! Hope this helps!

What about the Clairol root touch up kit? I've never used it but I've heard good things. It gets mentioned in magazines a lot.

Thanks for the help. Actually it's not the fading but the new growth.

Are you having to color so much because of the color fading and the grey coming through or because of growth?

If it is the fading, I have a solution. I buy all of my hair color at Sally's Beauty Supply (it ends up being much cheaper). Anyway, they have an additive that helps the color adhere to the grey better. I'm finding that I am only coloring for growth now, not because of fading.

You'll probably have to ask them where it is because it's in a very small plastic bubble thing. I believe it's called Black Magic and the bubble is black. Don't freak out when you add it to your color, it's very dark. I color my hair blonde and it makes the color look carrot orange!

Good luck

Hi Fluffy,

I would try Natural Instincts. It is a semi-permanent coloring that works fairly well. And it is fairly gentle to your hair. I have fine hair and I don't see any damage after I use it. But, it only works if you are going darker. It won't lighten your hair. Hope this helps.

I have to have my hair colored every four weeks. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a product to easily cover the roots so that I can go five or six weeks before hair appointments.
