Good morning Smiles! I think you will love this group and this website. The support and genuine caring is endless. I personally think goal setting is so important. I try to make a few small meaningful changes and make them stick. I also try to take one day at a time and let yesterday go. Checkout sparkrecipes. I tried the Banana Oatmeal recipe and pulled some certified junk food junkies over to the healthier side. Good Luck and e-mail/visit any time.

Hi all,

I have been in and out of Spark Pople and Weight Watchers for 3 years.

I am 50 pounds overweight. The weight came on over 2 years 2001-2002 and I have been carrying it since.

Since 2001 we, as a family, have been through alot. Multiple family deaths, unemployement, depression, cancer. Surgeries that were life threatening, grad school, Oh Boy, more too.

It finally clicked that this timing coincides with the extreame and quick weight gain. Ah Duh.

No, I am not kidding, it just occured to me this week.

So I hope this group can help me focus on some of the goal setting and emptional ties to food.

Hello, I just joined. After reading all the posts I am hooked. Such positivity, I love it. I'll post any good quotes I come across and Lisa thanks for the thread on that course. I've got my paper with my wants on it and I'm going to read it over starting next week and then move on to lesson 2. I'm at a retreat next week so I'll start when I get back. Thanks again to all of you for all the motivation.

I like the theme... The saying mind over matter does matter. Strangely enough it is easier to be negative sometimes than positive. It's all about the patterns and conditioning that has been reinforced over time. I can be as guilty of that as anyone. The problem with that is that it is very hard to success in life if you do not change your mind.

The meaning and purpose of why we are here, and where we are going is important to me. I am on a positive pathway with Spark people... and it is really crucial to not just count calories... but try and make a positive makeover in the way we look at life.

I look forward to being part of everyone's journey. Lastly, to me the glory and beauty of nature is something that keeps me connected with the universe.

I ALSO LOVE TO SPEAK IN PUBLIC LIKE LISA- SO I GUESS THAT MAKES ME WIERD TOO- LOL

THIS IS SOME ADVICE FOR ANYONE WHO IS AFRAID OF PUBLIC SPEAKING:

THE KEY TO REMEMBER IS: THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN YOU MAKE A MISTAKE BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WERE SUPPOSE TO SAY- MOST OF YOUR FEAR IS THAT YOU WILL MAKE A FOOL OUT OF YOURSELF BY MESSING UP- QUIT WORRYING ABOUT THAT- THEY DON'T KNOW!! YOU MESS YOUR OWN SELF UP BY WORRYING ABOUT MESSING UP- LOL

ALSO IF YOU ARE TALKING TO PEOPLE TO TRY TO GET CONVINCE THEM OF SOMETHING OR TO DO SOMETHING, WHAT'S THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN- THEY JUST SAY NO- SO MOVE ON UNTIL YOU FIND SOMEONE THAT SAYS YES!!

AND QUIT WORRYING ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE WILL THINK ABOUT YOU- JUST BE YOURSELF & THEY WILL LOVE YOU & IF THEY DON'T, THEN THEY DON'T DESERVE YOU- LOVE YOURSELF & EVERYONE ELSE WILL LOVE YOU- YOU WILL EXUDE LOVE & CONFIDENCE

CRYSTAL, I APPLAUD YOU FOR HAVING THE COURAGE TO TRY SOMETHING NEW- SOUNDS LIKE YOU DID AN AWESOME JOB & YOU SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF YOURSELF- I AM PROUD OF YOU!!

I WILL LOVE THE LIGHT FOR IT SHOWS ME THE WAY, YET I WILL ENDURE THE DARKNESS FOR IT SHOWS ME THE STARS!!!

KEEP ON, THEN, SEEKING FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD & HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS & ALL THESE OTHER THINGS WILL BE ADDED TO YOU!!- MATTHEW 6:33

I didn't even know about Toastmasters! I'm going to see if there is a local meeting near me! Thanks for sharing...

Crystal, congrats!! The 1st time I had to speak in public for a large group I thought I'd melt through the floor. I learned to find a focus point, and that helped, now I try to make eye contact with someone in each part of the audience. I still get nervous but I put that nervous energy into what I'm speaking about and it seems to come out just fine!

May Gods blessings be upon you and your families.

Hi Cindy, Thank you for that. I am sure they have a toastmaster in Canada. you would be suprised at the different levels of the people. Many are just as frightened as you are. I know I was. But the cool thing is that you don't have to speak until you are ready. and the atmosphere is supportive. We can only live one life so we may as well make it the best one we can. No regrets. I hope you can find the courage to live your dreams. It is scary but so worthwhile.

OMG Crystal I am so impressed!!! CONGRATS I have often thought different carreers but many involve public speaking and I just cant imagine that. I am very much afraid of even talking in a small group of people that I know. My hat is off to you for doing such a daring thing, and LISA kudos to you for liking to do it!

HI all, I am reporting back from my very first Toast Masters. I was really nervous but everyone was so nice and welcoming. Then I was asked If I wanted to participate and I said sure not realizing I would have to give an impromptu speech. I was a little horrified when I found out that is what I would have to do. I did not even know these people. But I asked GOD to put the message in my head and stopped worrying about it. (This is not like me I worry about everything.) So when I got up to give my speech the words just came. I don't know from where.. Well actually I do. THank you Lord!!! At the end they vote for the best speech and to my utter amazement, I won!!! Lisa thank you for your support.

Crystal .

Hi all. I have not posted much here but I am on the feb challenge. I wanted to just post that tonight I am going to a toastmasters group in my city, I am very scared. I have not publicly put myself out there in a long while. But if I want to grow, which I do, I need to step up my game and get out there. Wish me luck!!

Thanks.

Yes, it's easy. After you click on Add a Food you'll see a button that says Food Groupings. Click on that and add your foods. Hope that helps!

Hi, I'm new here and I'm searching for information can any one give me some answers
To help me out on my quest for a more rational life style I started to make my meals ahead an freeze them as individual complete meals
as I go along and enter my meal plan iI find myself repeating the same thing over and over again
Is there a place on this site where I can register a meal and then when I fill out my meal plans I just push a button and the meal is added to my meal plan
I hope what I am writing has sence so you can help.
Thanks Alice

Thanks for the heads up....I needed a new book for the trip this weekend...going to grab that one. This is from Amazon

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose will introduce you to the "you" that's always been with you, the part connected to the peace of God, a higher Presence and joy unspeakable. In addition to Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life by Byron Katie, the spiritual truths of Eckhart Tolle have changed my life (and continue to do so when I "remember" who I really am). Time and time again, when I "suffer", I can trace it to my "stinkin' thinkin'". (And just so you don't think I've lived a charmed life absent of difficulties, I've experienced widowhood at age 25, post traumatic stress syndrome, poverty, general anxiety disorder and a son diagnosed with Autism at age 3, among other trying circumstances.)

Do you hate your body? Get this book. Are you plagued with thoughts that you're not "enough"? Get this book. Do you fear that if you lose something precious (money, spouse, youth, vigor, job, etc.) that your life will be "over"? Get this book. Is your attachment to "stuff" and striving to live up to the expectations of others wearing you out? Get this book. Do you want to heal from painful emotions and negative states of being? Get this book.

Do you want to experience peace that passes all understanding? Get this book.

I'll leave you with a quote from A New Earth:

"'And I saw a new heaven and a new earth', writes the biblical prophet. The foundation for a new earth is a new heaven--the awakened consciousness. The earth--external reality--is only its outer reflection. The arising of a new heaven and by implication a new earth are not future events that are going to make us free. Nothing is GOING to make us free because only the present moment can make us free. Thus realization is the awakening...So the new heaven, the awakened consciousness, is not a future state to be achieved...What did Jesus tell his disciples? 'Heaven is right here in the midst of you'."

So did anyone sign up for Oprah's new book club online class? The book sounds like something this team would like. It's called "The New Earth: Awakening to your Life's Purpose. I signed up. Should be interesting to see how this online class works.

Has anyone read this book yet because it has been out awhile?

Thanks! There are so many new people! I love that your team has grown so much. My profile pic is from June, I've gained 12 pounds since then and need to get it off! I could always do your challenges except for the reading/meditation time. I just don't make time for it and I should. I mean I will. LOL!

good morning everyone! I just wanted to share something with you and send out a big thank you to Lisa for this awesome team! Anyway, last night my dh said something to me that made my jaw drop. You see, he is a very negative person and has been under a lot of stress at work lately. I could hardly stand to be around him it had gotten so bad. He'd come home from work in a foul mood and complain all night long. Well, I finally decided to give him some advice from some of the great articles Lisa posts every day and from things I learned from reading the Law of Attraction. When he complained, I would ask him what he was doing about the problems. I said, don't complain, fix it! He'd just look at me with a blank stare. Then I said to him one day to focus on how he would like things to be instead of focusing on the problems. He never said a word after I would say stuff like that. But last night, he turned to me and said that he had been taking my advice and was seeing results. Then he want on to give me examples of great things that were going on at work. I was totally blown away because I had no idea that he had even listened to me!

Thanks again Lisa for all you do and for this awesome team!!!

Hi Helen!!!!

Yes, the old butt dragging out of bed can be draining! LOL

I have to get my dinner made this morning as I will be out all afternoon meeting with clients. I'm thinking a pot of chicken vegetable soup sounds good! That way it will be ready when I bring my daughter home from rehearsal.

I got my Zumba in this morning and will do my strength training tonight...and in between here and there!

Make it a great day!

I am tired this morning... I will get going though. I wanted to go walking this morning, but couldnt drag my butt outta bed. I brought a zome bar to work for breakfast instead of a bagel, this morning. I am tired because I went to the grocery store last night at like 11:00 so that I could make dinner early tonight. I want to start eating at a decent hour, in the evenings. If I go home and cook right away, then I will have time to feed my man (who works nights), and my son, before we go work out. My son is in karate at the YMCA and I work out while he is in class!

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

Is there a web site about the happiest countries?? seems the scandanavian countries are healthier, and more environmentally sound.
I lived in Germany, France and Belguim but was a child. Obviously not interested in all these situations back then.
Wonder where Canada sits?

I didn't see it, but heard about it from a friend of mine. WOW! 'Freedom' is our national chant, and we came in 23rd. Sad... Just what my friend was telling me made me want to move there, too!

Yes, I saw this! I think it was a great episode and I passed the weblink on to my friends. :) It sounds like a wonderful place. I visited once in HS but that was long ago, and I wasn't worried about that type of stuff then. lol

so did anyone watch 20/20 last night? The title was Pursuit of Happiness. I thought it was really interesting. Also interesting was the fact that the happiest country in the world is Denmark. As they were describing the culture there, I wanted to go live there myself! What an ideal place! They certainly have it figured out. US came in 23rd.

I read this on another team and love to 'take time' and share with my friends at MLHOP.

Let's Take Time:

Take time to think
It is the source of power

Take time to read
It is the foundation of wisdom

Take time to play
It is the secret of staying young

Take time to be quiet
It is the opportunity to seek God

Take time to be aware
It is the opportunity to help others

Take time to love and be loved
It is God's greatest gift

Take time to laugh
It is the music of the soul

Take time to be friendly
It is the road to happiness

Take time to dream
It is what the future is made of

Take time to pray
It is the greatest power on earth

I really like reading ya'lls comments... thanks! It is encouraging to know there are openminded people out there who are looking for the good in others and wanting to share positive moments, rather than looking for the bad and always talking about the negative in life. We all know it is there, but do we have to focus on it?! I say move toward the sunlight, ya know? I look forward to more good words to read. Thanks again.

Hello everyone! My apologies for not being very active on this group since I joined! Bad time of year to join a new group, I suppose. Christmastime is so busy! But I'll be much better about it after the holidays. I hope that all of you have a wonderful Christmas!

I will be spending mine with family in Kentucky and then coming back up here the day after for Christmas with my fiance's family. Speaking of that, I just got engaged on Friday night, so that is some happy news to share with ya'll. It was an amazing night and we're very excited. I wrote a blog about it, so if you're wondering how it happened, you're welcome to read it there.

I wish each and every one of you the happiest of holidays! May you be richly blessed during this joyous time of year!

Hi all,
Jen I havent met you as I am fairly new to the team and havent had a ton of puter time lately, but must say your pic is so beautiful. You look so happy.
Well busy week again but have decided that I am going to start looking after me again, I wont be much help to mum if I dont have some down time just for me. Not puter time or card making or xtitch but time to just be.... I want to sit and relax, meditate or just be quiet in my little corner. I always have so much going on in my mind, I find it extremely hard to quiet it. lol
Dh has surprised me with an infrared sauna for xmas, so once that arrrives in 3wks or so.... that will be my hideaway!!!
I also was talking to a good Sp friend on IM and discusing my health problems and also my lack of continuity! LOL so I have decided to walk the heels and wheels walk a thon this summer, it is a fundraiser for crohns and colitis. My son has crohns and friend has colitis. Anyway I have said this before but she believes in me enough to send me a donation and I WILL DO THIS. I also have lots of questions in my mind about work and what I can and cant do as nursing is so hard on my body.
Anyway just a note to say hi and hope all are doing their best.
take care and cya

Oh my it has been so long since I have posted anything - so sorry! I have cut back my groups to include those that I can focus on!

I am doing well - really excited about my workouts and program. Just trying to loose those last 7 pounds before the holidays!!

I measure on Saturday so that will be exciting to see how many inches I have lost since last time.

I have to get moving - it is time to do my workout - but I had to say hello!!

Look forward to hearing more from all of you - Many blessings -

Hi all,
I have not been online in the last couple of weeks. I went to visit my daughters and got sick while I was gone. I went to the doc bronchitis/pneumonia. They gave me rounds of steroids which of course has increased my appetite. Plus no exercise. It was bothering me today and I realized that I had thought I broke old mentalities but really had not. I started my journey a year ago this January. At that time I thought I would have lost all my weight by now. I have not nor will I by January. I think mentally it has really been bothering me like subconsciously sabatoging myself for the last couple of months. So today having come to some mental realizations I have vowed to start anew. I tend to put more on myself that is realistic to accomplish. I feel like I lost sight of living one day at a time. So today I revisited my goals and my reasons for taking this journey. I will start back using all my trackers tomorrow and vow to make an hour daily for exercise and an hour daily for me to take the time and track and take care of these things that are important to me. I will accomplish my goals without a time line. I will put my best foot forward everyday and that is what will be. I can't believe I lost sight of that. I hope not to again.

Hi Cindy!

Make sure you take care of yourself too! Sounds like you are busy making sure everybody else is taken care of...which is typical of women! I understand what you are going through...it has been a hectic week here and I'm just getting to the computer now!

I also understand what you described with your husband...my Dad is bi-polar. He is actually have a hard time right now and they have had to adjust his meds. Makes it hard on my Mom.

I'll say a prayer that you get some peace and much needed rejuvenation!
Make it a great day!

Good Evening,
Boy sorry... I join a team and dissappear. lol I have had a busy week with a lot of emotional stuff too.
I had used some stat days so had a few more days than usual off. good thing as the hurricane that brushed us did a number on our roof. Leaks in a quite a few places, luckily we had plastic $ and got the stuff, dh and son, and dh bro and bil all were set to do it, but then it rained, snowed and froze. so finally on Monday, they got it done. All but the cap which is fine, so between the rain, wind and cold dh has been finishing it.
Also not sure what was up when I joined. Mum was in hospital with pneumonia, bad COPD, and she has lung cancer that the think is back and perhaps has metastasized into bone. she has a bone scan tto be sure..... so being an only child, this has been a busy week of running to and from hospital ( we live an hr away from the city) also going to my chiro treatments for my hips, and all reg stuff. thankfully wasnt any work thrown in.
Mum has returned home with oxegyn at home, and is doing fine bored but fine. she has apts with xray, cancer clinic( not till dec and not as soon as her GP wanted). So we went to the marriage counc. last week too ( dh has seevere depression and anxiety and we had a terrible year in 2006 - mostly him and his meds making his do weirdd things) he suggested we go to counc. so hey take him up on it. well she had us talking about mum and got me very emotional which is fine but tires you out. so between roof, mum, apointments I am so tired. havent even been on line much. also trying to get a xtitch xmas gift done and get some xmas cards made.
anyway have tried to get caught up. Just love all the supportive things to read and learn. thanks again for this great site. i will somehow get more involved someday!

Today will be a day of joy and relaxation. I am off to walk the dogs then going with hubby to the pool for an early morning workout. Already I can feel how relaxed and warm my muscles are from a good workout. Already had a good, nourishing breakfast of oats, apples, nuts, banana, and a HB'd egg. Bolstered up with 2 cups of hot, black coffee. Doesn't get any better than that! Caught up with all the inspiration abundant on the Spark pages. And it's only 0500! Yea for Saturday!

OK, part of living mindfully for me is picking a couple of goals for the upcoming year. I'd like to learn more about two subjects, one with practical application and one that's purely intellectual.

I've chosen my practical application - digital photography. I have a regular digital camera with all the usual options that I know NOTHING about. I'd like to spend this next year really getting proficient at taking photographs - kids, nature, landscape, whatever. I want to learn how to address composition, explore the features of the camera, and hopefully at the end come out with some really professional looking results.

So I've ordered a subscription to a photography magazine (cheap! BestDealMagazines, only $4.69 for the year). I found some web sites, especially one that has weekly assignments. I'm going to check at Costco next week for some decent computer software.

One of my goal's is to enter at least two of my photographs in next year's county fair (gotta have a final project, right?).

So I'm very happy with that.

Still not sure what the intellectual goal will be. I'd like to pick a certain subject to really dig into and learn about. Could be Greek mythology, geography (that one is VERY tempting), women's sufferage, philosophy, hmmmm.....

If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the answer.

Journals are great for this-I've found that to some they may seem silly, but keeping track of what you eat, how much, when in the day and what your mood was at that time really, really helps you to stay on track or reflect back to become more on track because your realize you never really were to begin with. You all have great worlds of wisdom-Listen to them and obey them, they work!!!

I am realizing the importance of loving life and not just living or existing. I have allowed myself to just exist for the past year. I am ready to get back on the saddle and take hold of the raines. The most important thing is controlling the attitude I take towards life and not allowing my emotions to control my attitude and other life choices.

This is a time of year when I start to get pretty reflective about what I'm doing and where I'm going in life. With the holidays coming up, I feel the need to reduce the craziness a bit and determine what's meaningful to me and the family.

Because we live so far from my husband's family, it's important for us to send Christmas cards with photos. However, this year I went online and ordered Christmas cards with two photos printed on them from Costco. Only $15.99 for 50 of them and it's done. Write a little message on most and they're ready to go. I should have them out the first week of December.

I also love to bake. Because of changes I've made in my life, I no longer want to spend four days baking l8 different types of goodies. However, I do want to do something. It's a tradition that I've held to since, well, birth, and I don't want to give it up.

Last year we did one day of different types of chocolate covered pretzels which was a lot of fun. This year I'm doing three different types of biscotti. They're low cal enough that I can even give some to the members of my weight loss group. Because they're shelf stable for so long, I'm going to be able to do them ahead of time, perhaps even today or tomorrow.

Several years ago we switched out present giving so we only buy for immediate family (living in our home), kids in the family, and one person we drew in the gift exchange. So not a huge amount of shopping.

This leaves time for enjoyable traditions. Decorating the tree, going to a holiday performance or two. Remembering the point of the season.

Now, if I can avoid sabotaging myself by not overcommitting to things that don't contribute to my goals, I'll be fine!

If hunger isn't the problem, food isn't the answer.

Lisa, that is so true! Thanks for posting. I especially like the statement that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. I'm going to keep this one around. :) And good luck making it the last few pounds that you have to go! It takes a lot of work to get to where you already are! Keep truckin! You'll be there in no time :)
