A friend of mine here on spark had just started in late December. She was close to 300 as was I when I started, with some same issues so we sort of bonded. After her initial big numbers started to level out down to only 2 and 1 pounds a week she started to get obsessive and piling up more and more things to track, to watch, to do better and I could see myself in what she was doing and how it was hurting her efforts. She joined more teams in the hopes to get back some motivation..she started to exercise more and be more strict in her diet, just like me...but that only served to further overwhelm her and via frustrations at not being perfect...she started to stall out, just like I have over and over...but looking at her do it was the only way I could see myself.
MEDIUM TERM GOALS. That doesnt mean setting up numerous milestones at after 28 of the daily ones. After all the long term end result is its own picture...not 700 repeats of the short term. Medium term goals are seperate standing goals that TIE, bind, connect, coorilate, strengthen support and uphold the distance between daily and long term. They are their own directive, yet in the same direction.
Anyway, to end a dragged out story, MY FRIEND started the couch to 5k program 3 weeks ago and has since stopped obsessing on the scale, and all those other things, she stopped beating herself up and being being so negative with grandious expectations, she cut back her teams to like 6, and her blog entries are completely positive and upbeat chaulked full of success after success.
She still counts her calories and hits the major targets, but she has let go of all the clutter. Just by having another completely different goal, she has given herself a true means to feel more gratifications and validation for her efforts.
In just three short weeks she has gained the ability to RUN flat out for 180 sequential seconds.
That is my Inspirational Tale for today.
Failure- a stone on a path not the last one called success.
Planless gaol=a wish
Faithless dream=fleeting & amiss.
Progress-little to do with speed-much to do with direction.
Wiser to replace with better choices than to deny human nature-small smarter choice substitutions.
Purposely choose your thoughts-what you believe-you achieve-Be careful what you think
