I love all sorts of music. I have a talent for it I guess it is one I don't use. I can play the piano a little I was in choirs when I was young. Mostly I enjoy just to listen. In my teens I had friends in a Rock and Roll band. I went to all there gigs. I had heeps of fun. I can read music. I don't ever think I would be good eneough to play in public though not that gifted. Smile. My son has the talent though he has played in a few bands at school. Love the guitar. Has played saxophone at primary school. I still have his sax. My husband says he is musical but when he hears anyone practicing he seems to get unerved I think this puts me off playing. Oh well. He is more the sporty type. A few nights ago I went on Utube and listened and watched all my favourites. I had so much fun. You sound as though you have a very talented family also a very large one. I am only from a small family. I had a girlfriend with 7 I spent a lot of time with there family is was so fun. They were all like my brothers and sisters each one was so unique and different. I spent most of my Christmas's at there home. I have only 1 brother. We are not all that close. Luck of the draw I guess. Seeya til next time.

Better done than perfect. Im doing my affirmation recording now...or as soon as I log off from sparkpeople anyway. LOL

I am the 7th child born to a rather musical family, 1/3rd of us can see the written music to an unknown song and without the aid of an instrument they can humm out the melody somewhat accurately. To me thats what sight reading means, but Im not sure if it really is or not...and I cant do it, I can read music...but just barely. LOL
I do not sing in public for others dont want to hear it period, let alone paying for it. ROFL
My father was in a performing quire at a boarding school in his youth, and later played the clarinet in highschool, college and in the army, and sang a beautifull baretone at church.
My mother sang in the church quire and in college and when she was a gradeschool teacher, she taught music to elementary kids.
My eldest brother sang, played the guitar and the trombone, and later on I played his hand-me-down trombone.(I also took some training for most brass instruments)
My second oldest is a formaly trained and accomplished piano and professional keyboard player, (current roomate with a good ear, can sing within his range) and played for many years in a rock group, and ran a recording studio for about 5 years.
My third oldest brother is a self taught drummer (played in same rock groups, and sings)
My second oldest sister also plays the clarinet quite well. (but could never carry a tune vocally AT ALL)
My deceased youngest brother played the violin.
I only have one sibling who never explored or exercised her own musical abilities.
I have started to listen and get into stuff like "Acoustic Alchemy" and new age aura music...Yanni. Like what one would hear when getting a spa treatment or a body massage. :-)
I find so much pop stuff on the radio too violent, too angry, too despressing, too into self opression and devestation, or else meaningless sex. When one has reason to feel that way...its a good outlet to vent and get over it. But otherwise its just dwelling in self pity and powerlessness and I have worked way to hard to pull myself out of that sort of cr@p.
I listen to classical, new age, and modern jazz rock fusion...mostly without lyricks

(oops talk about babbling) hehehehe

Oh no I am in big trouble if it is a large nose that makes for a beautiful sound, my nose is sooo small. Only kidding I have a normal size nose so maybe I am ok. Must be just the whining at the boy's that they hate so much. I must have the knack. Of whining. Giggle. Have a wonderful day Carrollyn. Do you sing professionally to have all that wonderful advise on Sound. Thanks so much for that. Wonderful advice. I have never really thought about this topic before its interesting to understand something new. emoticon

Those rare people who possess pitch perfect in both "ear" and "voice" are truly blessed. One of the reasons Barbara Streisand never got a nose job was for fear it would adversely affect her singing potential. Even though a singer may have an absolutely beautiful voice, some singers are actually off key without the use of headphones in a recording studio.

Our voices resonate in our throats and nasal cavities prior to leaving our own mouths. Some of us actually hear an exaggerated version quite different than what another hears, and that degree greatly differs from each individual and their varying cranial cavities. For me it’s pretty drastic but I know how much in what ranges so if I keep it low and deep it works for me. I love to exercise my vocal range, but those around me don’t love to hear it. LOL

Hi Carrol I had to laugh when you said hear through your scull. I hear through my ears. But I kinda get what you said. I wonder if other people hear our voice the same way we do. I often think my voice sounds a little different if I have it recorded but I am the one still listening to it. Wouldn't it be weird if we thought our voices sounded great but to every one else it sounded unusual. I hope it doesn't work that way as my boy's have often said they hate the sound of my voice. I am worried now. Laugh. Have a wonderful day Carrol. Smile.

"Done is better than perfect" I like that.

No its not that I dont like the sound of my own voice, I am sort of proud of the way I speak. LOL In fact I can (jokingly impersonate) sound just like a "Bell" ATT operator, or a sexy phone sex lady. LOL The way I speak normally sounds more little kidish that what I hear through my skull, but Im ok with it either way...and plan on modifying it for the recording anyway.
I have read that when it comes to the affirmation part of after one is in the trance state, that its more lasting on the subconscious if it is your own voice reciting the personal statments about yourself.

I have no qualms about using already made scrips to get me under...but I have trust issues when it comes to what is impressed on me after that point. LOL

"WE" have a favorite scrapbooking phrase, "Done is better than perfect". It's kind of like "Don't just think about it, do it". I really try to live my life that way, but sometimes our thoughts are so strong.
It's been awhile, but CAROLLYNN007, if you don't like the sound of your own voice, have someone else read them for you. Sometimes "self" hypnosis works better when it's coming from "someone else". : )

Yeah, I started to get into self hypnosis, did some research on the net...created a few scripts. I made my final drafts, got them approved as SAFE and was quite proud and happy with them. Now I just need to read it aloud and record them in my own voice...and yet I have not come anywheres close to doing it.

I KNOW if its not perfect I can try try again, with nothing really lost at all. Weird isnt it.

Well maybe now that Ive shared this shameful act, I will be further motivated to remedie it. :-)

Choose Action Over Perfection
by Gary Vurnum
==================

I'm as guilty as anyone.

I've had my new almost finished ebook sitting on my hard drive for a couple of months. It's complete except for a few appendices that I really want to add.

But what use is it if it is just 'sitting there' not doing anything?

I've done most of the hard work in writing it…yet I want it to be 'perfect'. I'm proud of it already…but I really want to finish it off when I have the time.

Ever been there?

Have you started something on to give up at the first
'draft' because you are not 100% happy with it? Take it from me - don't let it happen.

In any situation it is always better to make the effort than wait around for the right time to start…or the final piece of the jigsaw before you finish.

Action Point:

Are you too busy waiting for the 'perfect time' to start instead of focusing on actually doing something?

Get out there…go for it…don't wait around for perfection - because it will never come.

===================

You cannot get what you’ve never had unless you’re willing to do what you’ve never done.

Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.
