I think of Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. The Indian Prince who becomes Buddha and works as a humble ferryman to bring people across the river and although he has attained enlightenment, when he meets his son through a liaison with a beautiful courtesan years before, he cannot pass on his wisdom.

Also the Zen story of what happens after one achieves enlightenment: "Before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water; after enlightenment, chop wood and carry water." It is not the job, but the attitude that we carry inside that makes us feel that our life is a waste of time or that we are missing out on great achievement.

Guess what Anita everyone on the planet has the rebel inside them. As long as you don't get caught, I guess you can break the rules. I think you can still be a rebel and not break rules you just have to go outside the box. I agree everyone has special talents. A lot of them go unused I get a bit tired of hearing we will loose them, if we don't use them. I like to put it this way they are there for us when we get the courage to use it. Some of the talents we have take a little bit of practice to get them in order but to me that talent you are meant to use seems to always be there. It,s just weather you decide to use it or not. Your loss if you don't I guess. I agree don't get caught in the robot trap we are all individuals no matter what. You know everyone has a special place in this world and it wouldn't function properly without the stay at home mums or the restaurant workers or the boring accountants. I think what is needed is people to feel important in their special role. Ever tried to work in a field you never had before believe me its an eye opener I worked in a fish and chip shop and I thought that was an ordinary job, boy to all the special people behind the cookers and serving the customers of all sorts that come in you are truly unbelievable. Keep up you great work. Maybe more people should be made feel important for what they do. Instead of insulting them. Just think of all the horrible jobs out there. I praise the wonderful people that do them. They are very important to me. Like the lady that cleans the toilet in public places we all would critices if the toilet was dirty any one thought of her lately. She is that little treasure on this planet that just goes unnoticed. There are plenty of jewels on this planet you just got to notice them. Those treasures also have other abilities that I know are the ones you are refering to like the stay at home mum that started her own business fingerpinting little fingers into silver jewelry for keeps and started her home business. Yeh all the hidden talents. Great post Anita.

I don't know about you but I'm a rebel. I'll admit I'll break every rule I can so long as I don't hurt anyone in the process. I believe we are all unique and as such have unique talents and the responsibility to find ours, do you know what yours is? I challenge you to find it!

Challenge The Status-Quo
by Gary Vurnum
======================

It's almost as if we are expected to be robots.

Our parents' generation were happy with working 40 hours a week for 40 years to retire on 40% less than their salary.
Are you?

We are all under pressure to 'conform' to the stereotypical view of who, or what, we are. You work in accountancy so you are dull…you work in a fast-food restaurant so you are stupid…or you are a mother who stays at home to look after her kids so that she doesn't have to 'work'.

Don't accept it!

Challenge other people's expectations of you. Never accept something because you feel that you should.

You have unique talents that go far beyond your occupation…use them or lose them!

Action Point:

What unique talents are you holding back?

What's the point in having a life if you don't get some satisfaction from it?

Don't wait until it's too late before you start having regrets of making more of your life…where's the fun in that?

You cannot get what you’ve never had unless you’re willing to do what you’ve never done.

Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.
