Hitler was an evil man who belonged to a Black German Lodge in Germany. His passion for the occult is followed in the book, The Spear of Destiny. Sometimes evil takes a beautiful symbol like the swastika that both the Buddhist and the American Indian used and reverses the meaning. I believe that it is originally derived from the sun. For Hitler it symbolized a broken, twisted cross, a repudiation of Christianity. It was a dramatic symbol like the black Nazi SS uniforms with their "death heads" which are also used in Tibetan Buddhism. Evil's goal is to twist good to make it seem irrelevant and thus to attempt to destroy it.

I don't know alot about the buddist faith, that is new to me that the Nazi Swasticker was originally Buddist Symbol. Yes I agree with you about the dictionary saga shame on them. Only the hightest good I'll strive for. All very interesting though. I wonder why they chose that symbol to use. What was its origanal meaning. Do you know?

I think that the dictionary combined the original meaning of the highest good to achieve personal happiness with later derivative philosophies of excess and gluttony masquerading as "epicurean".

I think that it did a disservice to Epicurus to associate his ideals with the Dionysian decadence that followed. Obviously these later folks stole the name but left the ideals. It is like Adolf Hitler taking the Buddhist swastika and corrupting it into a symbol of Nazi insanity. It was the original meaning that I was referring to and the decadent compilers of your dictionary should have made a better distinction. Shame of them.

It is also a Yoga concept to have only the highest and the best, but a few Yogis have been revealed to be decadent behind closed doors too. It is an all too human condition to slip back into our animal passions once we lose the clarity of consciousness as apparently happens too often when good wine flows too easily and too abundantly. Alas! emoticon

Ok Chanetc now you are making me go to my dictionary.
I had not heard the word epicurean before. Now it said A disciple or student of the Greek philosher epicurus 270B.C. Who taught that the hightest good is personal happiness. Yep I will agree to that. Then I had a look a bit deeper into the word and it meant pleasure seeking, pleasure orientated, voluptuous, luxurious, sensual. all sounding ok here but then horror of horrors it meant crapulent meaning overindulging in alcohol resulting from drunkedness, gluttonous, greedy, self indulgent, piggish. Definitely has to sides to its nature. Like everything I guess all things in moderation. Smile have a wonderful day. I know, I musn't be doing to much today. Smile. Hope your smiling too. P.S. I really did enjoy what you wrote also.

We should always enjoy our food. Food is one of life's pleasures. We should adopt an epicurean approach to food and strive to find and eat the highest and the best. This includes the way that it is grown, its impact on the environment, its preparation, the way that we serve it, the atmosphere that we eat it in, and the company that we share it with. While all of these are ideal of the highest and the best, they can add to the enjoyment. The Japanese have a type of meal that is called Kaiseki and it refers to a type of meal that is prepared for the season and the food is fresh, the chop sticks, the plates, bowls, etc are all reflective of the time of the year.

Of course, this is the benchmark, but when we read labels for quality of what we purchase and the quantity that we serve we are apply consciousness to something that is often emotional and primitive in its power over us.

Treats can be elevated from the simplest sugar lollipop to a fine dark chocolate with antioxidant properties. One can enjoy anything in small amounts and as you said, "not as often". If we plan a treat and better yet share it with someone so that we have half of a piece or, perhaps, just a taste, we have satisfied the craving, but we have brought consciousness to an unconscious process and gained control over the craving instead of it controlling us.

Food is not the answer, never feel guilty about it either, We can still enjoy food. Whats the point of eating if you don't enjoy it. I guess its how we enjoy it is what we should think about. You can still have some nice treats just not as often.

CHANETC: I agree,(for me) it is a spiritual fulfillment that I hunger for. My walks in the park. Does that for me. I have tried food got fat. But, never full. No food is no the answer.

When we are looking to be fulfilled, we often mistake being "full" as a substitute. When we are actually being fulfilled through walks in nature, conversations with friends or loved one, being involved in the creative process, etc., then we are filling our hearts and souls and are less concerned about our bellies or satisfying our tongues.

Joe it looks like we all reach for nature to feed us, I guess that's because we come from the same creator(my belief).

I have a blog about watering my flowers that basically says I take care of all things with the same rhythm, for them it was all or nothing which WAS how my eating was going and of course I nearly killed my flowers, however when I began taking consistent care of me, my flowers came back as well : )

I like to go for a walk alone. And lessen to the animals scurry about. I have a place in this world. The peace and serenity. I love it
It's not about food at all.

I find that when I am feeding my heart and soul that food loses its power...."its edge" in fact when I am a little manic and looking...looking...looking for food that is rarely what I need. How do you feed your heart/soul which indirectly leads to weight loss success?
Today I sat in our woods and listened to the wind and was still...while smelling fall in the air. Kathy
