I like all the stuff about feeding the beast or not feeding it. I like the saying without darkness there can be no light. Some how I feel we need the balance. Joke for the day. The factory forman inspected the shipment of crystal vases leaving the plant and approached his new packer. He put his arm around the mans shoulder and said. "Well, Ole, I see you did what I asked". Stamped the top of each box, This Side Up Handle With Care. Yes sir the worker replied. And just to make sure, "I stamped it on the bottom too."
Have a happy day. Light and Love Stephanie.

Fantastic now I feel much better that changed everything see how well things turn out. I just cannot stop laughing right now. That is the quickest resolution ever. I won't have to feel sad for you about your son not paging you. It is so funny as this morning I was wondering if Americans still say page. Or is that only in the Movie's. We say phone. I felt so weird about it all, now it makes much more sense I am still laughing. Thanks Chanetc.

Crotty-My first meeting did not go as well as I might have expected. I didn't feel a bond. I will give this person one more turn and then I will decide. It is not entirely new to me. I went to a group therapy in college with one of my professors and also to a psychiatrist on campus, but neither was satisfactory. It is another path to explore, but perhaps it is not the right one for me. Remembering which beast to feed might be more important to me. I shall see. emoticon

Tonight I heard the story told of the grandfather talking to his grandson about the two beast that lived within him. One was a fierce wolf that was always angry, suspicious, full of hatred, always look back, carrying grudges, and wanting to hurt people. The other was a beautiful dog who was happy, faithful, loved people, always looking forward to greeting friends, always had a cheerful disposition. The grandfather explained that these two beast were fighting for control of his life. The little boy listen in awe with a touch of fear and asked which one will win? The Grandfather replied, the one that I feed.

I all of our lives we have the choice of two views of the world. If we look for anger, hatred, dishonesty, etc, it is readily abundant. But if we look for people who love others, who are helpful, selfless, we can also find those. How we see the world is how we act towards it and how we act towards the world, determines how it will act towards us. It is ultimately our choice.

I have heard this story several times before in my life, but tonight, I heard it as for the first time as I recognized the beasts that the grandfather was talking about. These beast live within me too. Which shall I feed? Everyday I make choices about which one do I feed: fear or faith and hope. Only one can be fed at a time. The one that I feed will grow stronger and eventually the one that is not fed will starve and not be strong enough to survive. Every moment is a choice. Choose wisely!

I do wish both of you well. I agress it is a scary way to go. Find someone you can relate to, that is the most important advice I have given people. If you can't talk to them, you might as well throw your money out the window.

I mistakenly let the spell check correct PUDGY to page, which confused my whole post. SORRY.

I am not sure what it is with your son not wanting to page any more maybe it is an independance thing. I went through that with my mum a few years ago. Don't worry it doesn't last for long. Something will happen and he will need to contact you. Sometimes people just need space to sort things out. I know he is in a different country. It is true it is all in the mind. My mother lives 10hrs away we just chat on the phone I have not lived with her since I was ninteen or so I have always lived away from my family no particular reason I just had itchy feet I liked to experience new things then I got married. So I have always lived in a different city to her. When I was young she made me promise I would always phone her so she wouldn't worry I am glad I have always done that for her. Being a mum myself now I think that is important to stay in contact. Family is family. Sometimes outside help is fine I think just to share your mind with a different source is good you only get their opinion and then you just sort things out for yourself anyway. I wish you both well. Life is all about learning and I guess as long as we are alive that is what we will keep doing. Learning and experiencing. We are changing always so I guess adapting is difficult at times. Things just happen so quickly. I think that is what it is. One minute your childeren are kids the next they are all grown up. You are fortunate to have a close bond with your son. One of my sons is close the other is really distant. I have always treated them equally. So I guess personalities definitly have some effect on the outcome of what a person does. We are all different thats the wonderful thing. I see a lot of people because I do markets and today it still amazes me how different people are. What brings people together is amazing also. Have a good night and sleep well.

My wonderful son decided that he didn't want to be PUDGY anymore and started running on a treadmill at home. He lost the weight and then he went to the gym and put on muscle. Everyone thought that he had lost too much weight because his waist became a 32, but he weighed 190 pounds and his body was rock hard. After people touched his arms or his chest and found out how much he weighed they didn't worry about him anymore. He is my inspiration.

This year he started to see a therapist in France and has persuaded me to see one here. There seems to be a common link with us with our over enthusiastic approach to life and then the subsequent disappointment and sometimes feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of the situations that we have found ourselves in. I was always able to handle this when I was younger by taking time off and learning to adapt to the changes. I'm either more impatient now or less able to adapt. I am starting a journey to discover which or if it is a blend of reasons. It may be situational because we have both had to face some life changing challenges, but for the first time, I am (at his urging) looking outside myself for help. I am doing so sceptically as this is new territory for me. Wish me well on my journey. My son's therapist told him the problem was not so much with him, but the French culture that he is living in. He will be there for at least 6 more months. Wish him well too.

When you appreciate what is in the world like the natural things sounds, nature, animals the world is a beautiful place indeedy. Of Course there are the disasters to but we won't go there. Just make the most of your surroundings and what you do that makes the difference as with Chanect playing and fooling with his neighbours dogs life a lot more fun when we play. Thanks Chanetc. That reminded me to play a little more. Thanks. My son and I have been excercising together the past few night. He is a little over weight and finally has come to terms with it now that will encourage me to excercise. he's been working really hard.

Thank you for your kind words. I used to visit my friend when he lived in a different home and the front gate had a draw bolt. I had read that Dachshunds were trained to bark at the sound of rifle bolts being slid back in the trenches in WWI. I used to play a game of sliding the bolt so quietly that the dogs didn't notice and before they knew it I was at the front door; they would come flying across the hardwood floors, with their hard toenails clicking. I have been playing with them for years. Unfortunately, my friends home is carpeted and I have to ring the door bell and now that sets them off. Not as much fun!

I've reminded myself to be in the NOW when I have started to worry about a potential problem. What's so very interesting, is that when I do this, when I get to the point in time where I was projecting the problem, it doesn't exist. It only existed in my mind. It never had reality; it only had possibility, like millions of other possibilities. When we deal with the singular moment of NOW, we eliminate billions and billions of potential problems and at worst, we will only have to deal with one, the sole surviving one, if any. Worry is useless. It is like my friend's dachshunds barking when I come to his door, my mind, like his dachshunds is trying to prove how valuable it is to me, by "barking out worries", but it is mostly just a bunch of irritating noise and if you open the door to the now, it quiets down like the dogs and you can focus on taking care of what is in front of you, rather than what "might" be lurking in the future.

I liked what you said knowing something and working through it so that it becomes. What I get from that is keep focused work through it so that what you desire comes. I guess we have to work through something so it becomes. Gee the stuff I am going through something good must be coming. Smile. I will keep going. Happy Smile.

It was enlightening for me to read it too! As I wrote it, I realized that it also applied to some issues that I am working through. Knowing something and working through it so that it becomes wisdom is not the same thing. It is the work that we do that yields wisdom, not reading, listening, writing, or talking. It is good to be reminded and to remind ourselves.

Krishnamurti was one of the most influential philosophers for me. His advice through his books saved me from succumbing to the cults and misguided politics of the 60's and 70's. I encountered most of them living in Los Angeles at the time. His advice would be to try a different approach: Instead of trying to stop a negative thought as it enters your mind, just observe it, don't condemn it, but observe it, watch it. We have positive and negative thoughts, the brain is a marvelous tool, but it can only deal with the past. If you focus on remaining in the Present, not the past or the future and only observe what is happening now, you take a lot of the emotional charge off of the thought. It just is. It is not important or unimportant, it just is. Being in the now saves us from our memories and our fears of the future. By meditating on the now, we raise our soul to a higher level, learn the lessons of this now, and accelerate our spiritual evolution. This is not easy and it is not often tried, but you just have to observe your mind as it is just one aspect of the reality that surrounds us. We allow ourselves to be drawn into other people's drama, but we don't have to, we can just observe that too. If we treat our emotions and our thoughts as opportunities to exercise this spiritual evolutionary muscle, we can welcome the opportunity like reframing walking up and down stairs as a great opportunity to exercise and become healthier, not something that we dread. If we great each moment with great expectation for all of the opportunities that it brings us for growth, then we have reframed that reality too. So like the "Lovin' Spoonful" used to sing, "it's not often easy, and it's not often tried, you just have to make up your mind" not to choose, but just to observe and be in the Now.

I need to do this eliminate self destructive habits.
I don't have many just a few little one's that pop up. Apparently when a destructive thought enters your mind if we think halt or stop it is supposed to help I am trying that. Wish me luck. I think my problem is I find it hard to release the negetative energy that comes with the thought especially if someone else is in your life and what they do affects you. I guess you shouldn't let them so that is my weekness. I will just have to get stronger.
