What a wonderful question. I guess mine would be to love myself deeply, completely and unconditionally.

I think not doing that is the very thing that creates blocks to obtaining all my other goals.

Brian Tracy wrote a book with an accompanying CD called GOALS. I took this book with me on vacation 2 years ago and it was invaluable to me to come to my most important goal. When started on the path of becoming healthy, I discovered problems that I didn't know that I had. When Tim Russert recently died at the age of 58, 3 years my junior, it was a wake up call of what could have happened to me. emoticon

Thanks for a thought-provoking question. I read it earlier today, but wanted to think on it before responding.

I believe I need to set a new goal in order to address this topic, and it's not one that's easy to form into a concise statement!

My biggest issue seems to be self-awareness. I have adult ADHD, which contributes to the issue, but I must be careful not to BLAME my issues on that!

Most often in my life, when something goes wrong it's because I wasn't paying attention. Without going into details, I believe it has contributed to my being laid off at work, and I KNOW it is the reason my purse was stolen out of my unlocked car this past weekend. It's the reason I lose touch with people, am not always in tune with my husband, spend too much sometimes, forget household chores in the middle of them (ie laundry). It is the root cause of other issues as well, but I hope you get the idea.

Now, to think of a goal statement that I can actively focus on and track! If I do that, I know I can make progress. I welcome any input!

Thanks. I'm the same I don't drink or other stuff either. I totally cleaned my house and claimed room for myself and filled it with foods I'm allowed to have, that is what I stick to. Lots of fruit & veggies. I don't buy chips because I love them, so a big bag would be an empty bag. I am trying to not eat after 7pm so it's just a matter of self control.

This is something that I have had to struggle with too. Food used to be my self-medication of choice. I don't drink or use other drugs, so food was my drug. The way that has helped me is to only have things in the house that are the highest quality and lowest density of calories. Raw vegetables and fruit top this list. It is hard to eat a lot of vegetables: carrots, celery, tomatoes, sunflower roots, bell peppers, radishes, etc. The second best source is legumes which are high in fiber. You can snack on garbanzo beans if you roast them in the oven. Tuna fish, salmon, sardines, and anchovies are great protein sources and contain Omega-3 which helps calm anxiety and elevates our moods from situational depression. Drink lots of green tea, hot or cold with non-sugar sweetener or water, not juices, which are calorie dense. If I have a large bag of chips, for example, it is like having gasoline and a match; I may just eat it all in one sitting. Instead, I buy low salt pop corn and add Cajun Seasoning to spice it up. I eat one cup at a time, even though the serving size is 2 cups. When I eat the second cup, I feel like I have really had a treat, but it is within the guidelines. I hope that this helps.

I guess control my eating. I can go off on a binge and just eat & eat, sometimes I realise what I'm doing but don't stop, just keep on eating. With SP I am tracking everything so I have stopped but sometimes I feel like I just want to start crunching away on something, and I know once I start thats it there will be no stopping.

What goal, if you achieved it would allow you to accomplish all of your other goals?

I answered this question about two years ago and decided that my health was my most important goal. This lead me on a journey where I found SparkPeople, discovered rowing, lowered my cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar. If I had not done this, I could have gotten seriously ill or even died. Instead, I have more energy, have fun rowing, and I am enjoying life much more. I have a ways to goal to complete this goal, but I am well on my way.
