Lisa, Thanks, thanks, and thanks over! I needed to hear this:)
My own story being given only 3 months to live with no meds for my treatment and my refusing the only one available via IV infusion 24/7. I survived past the 3 months for the oral meds to be approved which helped me extend another 6 months when a nebulized form of breathing medication was FDA approved earlier than expected and here, I am to prove the doctors wrong!!! But, what helps me the most is to get over the guilt to be caring for my body day in and out with that consuming most of my time for now...I only used to count my blessings for being independant. This excerpt will be pasted on my fridge for ever!
Samasta Loka Sukhino Bhavantu" - Sanskrit translates to "Let all the worlds be happy!"
Lisa, that's a beautiful testament to how to live life. Strive for things, but don't burn yourself out on it. It goes for career, health, and life goals.
Lynn4Life--because at the end of the day I'm always ME.
Former poet laureate of New York State, Audre Lorde, had breast cancer. When it spread to her liver, she was given a prognosis of only six months to live; she lived for eight more years. In her book A burst of Light, she gives the reason: "I had to examine, in my dreams as well as in my immune fuction test, the devastating effects of overextension. Overextending myself is not stretching myself. I had to appreciate how difficult it is to tell the difference. Caring for myself is not self-indulgence. It is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warefare."
Caring for yourself and your body does indeed take great courage and persistence. It requires faith and courage to be well in a society that believes that illness is the only acceptable form of Western meditation. Always remember this truth: You have the power within you to create health, freedom, and joy right now. And that, one person at a time, is what creates peace on Earth.
