Love that tradition Susan!! I need to maybe do that too. I need to focus on the positive more. Never too late to post in a question!

Caya-- My husband seems to be sick every Christmas thru New Year's too. My husband is under alot of stress at work and it catched up at the holidays.

Linda-- hope you are feeling better! How nice of your sister to invite the missionaries. She probably does way too much! I hope she will rest now for a little bit! I understand about the 1 bathroom! It is a problem!

Did I forget today's question or post it in the wrong place? I'll do it now and we might end up with 2! I don't know!

Susan, that sounds like such a great new tradition you have started.

We had a very quiet NYE. My nephew had planned on going to a dance with the other young people of his church, but his best friend was having some family problems and really needed DN's support so he went there instead. Sis made a turkey dinner, but did not go overboard this year. as she was still exhausted from Christmas Day dinner and all the work she put into that. Once again she invited the missionaries for dinner because they had no place to go. They are such nice young men..... Sis cannot stand the though of them not being around friendly faces on such special days.

I had to go to the bank on Saturday and managed to set back my recovery from this stupid cold. Coughing so bad it was all I could do not to throw up...... So sis would not let me do anything to help. I felt kind of lazy knowing how exhausted she was but she did not want me to pass this bug on to anyone else.....

BIL brought me home this morning. Sis was threatening to make me stay over at her place for a few days. but happily I am feeling better this morning. With 4 people living in that one very small place, and only 1 washroom which is upstairs, it can get quite uncomfortable when nature calls and someone else is already there... (I know, TMI !) So I am quite happy to be home again.

I have my doc appt next Wednesday (9th) and hopefully I will be really over this "thing" by then, but I still have to go because he wants to check my thyroid again as it was a little low last time...... I used to have a problem 25 - 30 years ago, but went to a dr who said there was no problem so he took me off the synthroid. My sis (twin) is seeing an endo for thyroid problems and my mom had problems for years, and my yourngest brother had the opposite problem -- a racing tyroid. Si it will be interesting to see what issues come up with this blood test.

Well it is lunch time so must go get something to eat. Hope everyone had a great NY and will have a healthy, happy, SAFE, and prosperous year.

I'm late on this, but going to post anyway. I have three traditions that I do every New Year's Eve. The first one is to make Hoppin' John, a black eye pea recipe. It's a family favorite and is supposed to bring good luck. The second is I burn a bayberry candle down to the wick. Supposed to bring prosperity in the new year. The last thing is going through my journal and picking out the really special things that happened during the previous year. It just reminds me of all the wonderful things that did happen and helps me focus on the positive.

I started a new tradition this year. I got a large plastic jar, an empty peanuts jar actually, and each day of 2013 I will write a note at the end of the day about something good that happened during that day. Again, the goal is to keep me focused on the positives and to celebrate even the smallest good things.

New Years doesn't seem to be any different for me the last couple of years. No traditions either. But maybe I havent had any traditions cause my husband seems to get sick every years or around there. He is either in the hospital or recovering from a surgery. Oh, well. Thats life. Back to work as always.

My family doesn't have any superstitions that we work on for New Year's. To me ist is just another day.

I know everyone is busy! Anna, hope you are helping your daughter and her family move right in! Enjoy time with your granddaughters! Linda, enjoy time with your family! Susan & Chaya, wishing you the happiest of new year's celebrations!

Do you have any superstitions and/or traditions for New Year's Day? I know some believe you should not was h clothes on NYD, the first person to enter a home on NYD should be a female and so many more! Do you have any?

We don't have any New year's superstitions, as far as beliefs, but we do eat certain foods every New Year's Day. We have a combo dinner that incorporates my husband's southern roots and my Eastern European roots. We eat pork roast and sauerkraut for my family and greens, black eyed peas and hog jowls for his. However, my mom combined the 2 ever since we moved south too. We always kinda thought that what you were doing at midnight on NYE you would be doing all year. We also kiss each other at midnight.
