Thank you. I did have an understanding of the plan but I guess I was trying to make it more complicated than it really was....hmmm....may have to take a look at how many times I do that!! Anyway, thanks for clearing it up for me.

There isn't a whole lot of difference. From what I have seen Sparks is taking the change-one approach where you learn and try to develop one new health habit a week. So for the FastBreak you were to track your food, follow the exercise plan, and journal (at least those were my goals). In phase 2 you keep all those (unless you change them) and in the first week you learn about portions and they give you "action steps" to help you adopt that strategy (like buy measuring cups so you can measure your food) (You get points for clicking that you have completed the actions steps) Other related articles are also selected. The steps and articles are put on your start page. Then each week they will send you a new lesson, action steps, etc.

My thoughts: If you are feeling overwhelmed with keeping up with the food tracking and/or are struggling with the exercise plan then you may want to stay in FastBreak. But think you can add in a few more strategies to your plan then move up. Phase 2 does ask a bit more but goes slowly (a week at a time) so its not really overwhelming. If you have dieted in the past some of the stuff is going to be familar.

Remember - this is YOUR journey and you have to move at your pace. But you do have to keep moving to reach your destination!

Hope this helps and good luck everyone!

Okay, I'll admit to my stupidity. I've read the sparks messages but I really don't see the difference in stage 1 and stage 2. Can anyone give me specific breakdowns on what I'm supposed to be doing different? That way I can decide if I should move on or stay. Thanks.

Darnet I have flubbed up! I moved back to stage 1. I have been in my all or nothing selfish stage. I need more help I think. Congrats to the others moving on! It has been oreos, soda, chicken nuggets, and pure lazyness on my part. No more!! Building myself back up! Come on team we can do it!

I'm glad to hear that there is no pressure to move on and that some of us have stayed. To those that have moved congrats. To those of us (includung me) who haven't moved let's learn from the others so that we are ready to move on in a week or so. Thanks for the info and the constant support that all of you give. I'm so glad that I'm not "loosing" you guys!

My understanding of Sparkpeople is that it is set up for you to move at your own pace. It provides you with the tools to lose weight, but you decide when to implement the tools and how long you want to stay in each stage. They are only guidelines, not rules!!

If you feel like you aren't meeting the 3 goals you picked out for yourself for the fastbreak section and want to master those first, stay in fastbreak. Thats okay!!! The whole point is to slowly build the skills needed to make this a lifestyle change so you don't burn out.

Just remember, you can do this! But you can only do this at your own pace! Don't let any of us or the computer tell you when to switch between the phases. Make it work for you!! And, don't worry, we aren't going anywhere...you are sooo stuck with us :)

I think I am going to stick with the fast breaks for a while. I haven't been very good at meeting the goals, and I would like to give myself the opportunity to do so. I think this way I won't feel overwhelmed. After all, I think that is the last thing any of us need. I am really glad to know that I am not the only one. Thanks everyone!

Thank you so much for starting and contributing to this topic. I had the same thoughts and received my "move to stage 2" today. I went ahead and jumped into stage 2. I really enjoying reading about the portion control thing. I totally agreed with it-I I have no idea what 1/2 cup, 2 tbs., etc and I cook. It will be a huge hassle, but I'm going to go for it!

I decided to step into the second phase. I really did not believe that following these little steps in phase 1 would help me lose weight, but here I am 8 lbs lighter in 13 days. I thought the second phase would keep me from getting bored and I am hoping to 'kick it up a notch'. My next goal since I am staying at my Mom's house for a week (without a gazelle) and not really a good place to walk I am focusing on strength training. I tend to fall in that area. To me it is boring. I am not sure exactly what strength training to do. Right now I have let SP pick my exercises, but I am not sure if I am going to keep that. Keep up the great job everyone!

Hi Everyone. You are doing such a great job of supporting each other, keep up the good work. I stayed on phase one for at least a month. Thats what is great about this site, we move at our own pace. No pressure!! Enjoy the journey. emoticon

Okay, so I went through and reviewed everything about the Fast Break phases...wow, a lot of really good information!!

First off, for those of you worried about not being able to be a part of this group...that has nothing to do with the phase that you're in. We all started this "journey" the week of September 16-22, 2007, so that is our "SP Class". I'm happy to say that we're stuck with each other.
emoticon
Second, you can switch phases any time that you want and you can even go back to a previous phase. I basically clicked on all the different phases so I could read all the info on all of them then put myself in phase 2.

For those of you that are wondering, here's a little info on Phase 2:

This Stage has three main purposes:

1) Accelerate your weight loss. Anywhere from 1-2
pounds per week should be considered good,
healthy progress.

2) Build a collection of good habits that will stick
for the long haul. Following these habits and
meeting your calorie goals will get you to your
ultimate goal.

3) Make gradual changes to your everyday life to
move closer to a healthy lifestyle.

The healthy habits that are covered in Phase 2 are:
1) Control Portions
2) Eat The Right Stuff
3) Exercise Consistently
4) Drink Water
5) Eat On Purpose
6) Find Unexpected Opportunities

No matter what phase everyone decides to do, I look forward to continuing toward our goals together!

Take care,
Mary Jane

I think stage 1 has more to do with being aware of where you're starting point is, and stage 2 is starting to change habits, eating habits mostly.

I found this group on a Friday, so I've just reached the one week mark. Already I'm starting to make some changes and focusing on doing better. I plan on moving on to the second stage at the end of next week. I'm excited about it.

To date: 2.5 lbs lost!

You absolutely can continue with phase 1 if you feel you're not ready. Just don't click the link to move on until you're ready.

However, may I just tell you all that I felt the same way when I started. But stage 2 is only going to build on what you've started, not replace it or go beyond it. You may think you're not ready, but, you probably are. Don't be scared to stretch. You can always go back to stage 1 if you really need to.

I think that the phases are there for a guideline. That everyone goes at their own pace, moving with it, or slower/faster. I think you should do what is comfortable for you.

May you have successful days!

Even if we move at diffrent paces we can stay in touch...one of the first friends I made here was a member long ago....just add the ones you want to your friends list or address list if they are not on one of your teams...and send a message & you will get an answer back.

I'm with you on this one. I'm not totally comfy with moving on. But how do we stay on the first part (computer wise)? I'm still not totally in the routine of things. I also don't want to loose all of you guys, your the best and I feel like in a way I've come to depend on all of the support and good post to keep me going. What do we do?

Hi Cym,

I have been thinking the same thing for myself. I have to be honest, I haven't really reviewed what I'm supposed to be doing so I need to take a look at it. I think you should do whatever feels right for you and whatever will help you reach your goal the fastest!

Good luck & keep us posted!

I think you should go at your own pace...if you are not ready to move don't, this is not a race. This is giving the info and support you need to get a new & healthy life style. That is the only way it is going to come off & stay off.

Is anyone planning on continuing on the Fast Break stage for a few more weeks (2 to be exact)? I feel like I still have a lot of work to do with accomplishing my daily tasks before I add on and go into the Healthy Diet Habits - weeks 3 - 8 phase. Am I the only one? Do you think this is beneficial or should I continue on to the next step?
