emoticon Hi temmates!

It's been a long two and a half months around here. I'm going to try to do a blog post soon about it all, but the short of it is that I somehow popped my right hip out of place (this part didn't even hurt me---weird!) as well as the right side of my back. I have nodules (scar tissue) that had built up and it's been taking this long to get rid of it. I've been seeing a chiropractor for the past 2.5 months and I'm finally down to going about ondce a week and she gave me the okay to get back on the elliptical on a flat incline. So much more I could type, but I will save that for my blog post later.

My weight has increased by about 5 lbs and I'm trying to mentally prepare myself to get back into working at losing the weaith, getting fit and healthy.

I would like to get this group moving, but I cannot do it myself. emoticon I fyou are out there reading this, please reply, get involved with the team and lets take this road to healthy together, day by day! It's definitely not all sunshine and rose, so we gotta stand by one another and start somewhere. I hoep you'll be here with me. Thanks! emoticon

Yes, we should try to make one another more accountable. I've been having a heck of a time remembering to log into SP! When does the next round of your challenge start so I can try to mentally prepare myself ;-)

Hi Lisa,

We would love to have you next time around.

At this time, I am only doing the pilates. I have never worked my core so hard in my LIFE! It is oh so very slowly having a difference in my back. Apart from that, yeah, I really need to get my act in gear.

Maybe we can do it together?

Sam,

I wish I was in a place where I was ready to participate on your team in your challenge. I'm hoping I can get back into things soon and then maybe the next round I can join you.

I hope you're doing better and have gotten back into a routine again. I need to make SparkPeople a daily habit because without it I lose focus. Hope eveyone else out there checks in with us soon!

Hi everyone!

Registration has begun for the second round of BTS, a 10 week, interactive, team based challenge. Our teams provide a forum for accountability, encouragement and support through fun challenges and daily chit-chat.

I Captain the Golden Suns -

The Sun, a primary source of ENERGY and LIGHT, sustains all living beings. Its golden rays can have a gentle healing touch or can wreak havoc on the earth and our bodies.

On this team we choose the healing rays. Our COMMITMENT is to living a better life by PARTICIPATION and creating new, HEALTHY habits. We use FUN weekly challenges, various Pop challenges and GOYBADs to build CONSISTENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY. Like the sun we spread SUNSHINE and SUPPORT one another. We find the STRENGTH of our inner core and Burst through to a BRIGHT new future!

Rising to face each day, embracing the LIGHT and learning from the SUN’s constancy, we harness our own internal HEAT. * The more yellow the fire, the hotter the burn *

Committing to just 10 weeks could be the very thing you need to begin or restart your journey to health and fitness. Check out Beyond the Scales which will begin April 7th and run through June 16th. Below is a link to the registration page:

Hi Getnfitnlean and Sam th...dank you for your replies...I truly appreciate all that you shared...i'm not sure where i'm at i think i have built muscle with doing a good strenth with circuit training mix and lite cardio but it makes me so very hungry i have just never eaten as much ever...i do stay within sparkpeople's range for what i do while trying to carb cycle i seem to be cycling my calories as well and i feel i have built muscle and my clothes fit looser and i'm just scared to weigh myself and see where i'm at just afraid of going into an overly obsessive mode on fitness and diet which i have in the past...trying to be healthy...some ideas for healthy meals i've done in the past since i had high cholesterol was eat very low fat and that immediately brought me to a healthy range
Sam I hope that with rehabilitation on your injuries you are feeling better with the physical therapy...

emoticon Sam!

Again, thank you for all you've done to help this team in the past! I greatly appreciate it!

Like you, I've been on this road for so many years I don't even want to think about it! When I do think about it I only kick myself for all the wasted time I've spent 'wanting' to shed these pounds and not taking the actions I need to do so. There are a lot of things tied into actually getting healthier. The mind, body and spirit must all work together in order to change habits and create a healthier tomorrow. It is work and a lot of times I think I'm afraid of all the work involved. As we all know there isn't any work involved when putting on the weight, but the getting rid of it seems like a daunting task. Right now I just need to concentrate on making the steps I need to take count so that I can get the ball rolling so that goals can be met.

I'm sure many of you can relate. I hope those that are in the midst of making progress can step forward with more encouraging words for the rest of us. We're all at different places on this journey, but I believe everyone has something they can contribute to help one another along.

Have a great day everyone! emoticon

Hi and welcome Newbies!

Been busy with work and with the new challenge team. My apologies for not being able to continue in a larger position on this team.

I have been on this road for a bunch of years already and there have been many bumps along it. Struggled with injuries due to over training and not taking care of myself when they first appeared. My cardio is almost non existent. I try to walk as much as I can and do get the occasional 10-15 minutes on my elliptical. Diet is a daily struggle. I realize that last time it was so easy because the training took a front seat and eating well followed. But I ever dealt with the emotional eating aspects. Now I am literally right back where I started at the beginning.

So, I am trying to educate myself on what makes my food intake tick, besides hunger, to really lose the weight and keep it off. On top of that, this month I joined a Pilate center, under the advisement of my physical therapist and I am cautiously optimistic. After being evaluated the head trainer did say with lots of work I will get butter. It will take TIME. - I figured, took me 4 years to get this bad!

Anyway, that is my update. I look forward to hearing from everyone else!

emoticon to the team NYCALIGIRL! I kinda feel the same way you do about the 'principles' of dieting concept. For me, I think I need to find something that I enjoy on a daily basis and add the other workouts in that aren't as enjoyable for me to see results.

Right now I am struggling with just 'getting going'. I also need to become more involved in finding/making healthier recipes and menu planning. My husband does most of the cooking and although he is a great cook, he also cooks decadent a lot of times. We've also been struggling to come up with dinners lately because it's the same 'ol same 'ol dinners week after week. So I need to spend sometime online schooling myself in smart shopping, recipe/menu planning and basic cooking.

As for the exercise, that needs to be something I make a habit. With how cold and snowy this winter has been, I don't have a ton of motivation to work out. I know I will wish I did workout all winter when shorts and short-sleeved weather returns though!

I just want everyone to know that even if you AREN'T actively working out or eating the healthiest right now, just stopping by the team a few times a week may give you the support & motivation you need to get going. I know that I've been guilty of just not coming to SparkPeople because I'm so off track that I feel like a failure. So come on out of hiding if you're in a similar situation as me and we can start to jump-start one another's journey to a healthier you and me! emoticon

Hi everyone...just new to the team and have been wanting to stop by and say hi...i'm restarting my spark and my weightloss and diet goals to find a good balance between the two. I'll be 41 in april and this time i'm just not wanting to be so obssessive as i was when i did have an amazing amount of weightloss of 55pounds but that was accomplished in 3 months ...I was eating very healthy but just over working it daily...i don't know anymore really...diets are confusing me they are seem to be wrapped around the same principles...so i'm still working on that....well thank you for listening!

Yes, it has been a long, difficult time for me as well.

I haven't been successful in getting started with eating better or exercising. Heck, it's been difficult enough getting the kids back into the routine of going to school due to the extreme cold weather and snow storms we've been getting. It's very depressing.

A few things I need to do:

* Start taking a daily multi-vitamin
* Start taking vitamin D daily
* Incorporate drinking more water (I don't have a problem with this any other time of the year, but winter)
* Figure out 'when' and 'what' I am going to do for exercise.
* Find new recipes and become a meal/menu planner.

This is enough for now, but there's a lot more personal stuff to focus on too. I hope we can all get our plans straight and move forward so we can make 2014 the year we become healthy and happy. Looking forward to better days, that's for sure! emoticon

Hi there fabulous girls. Sorry to hear about your terrible fall Lisa, I hope you are finding some peace with the new year. My life is once again in flux, after starting a new job last September I found myself in a dark place for a few months. Things happened that pushed me farther towards the darkness until I made a decision to change. Things, from an emotional stand point, look better now, thank God. My new job is rapidly becoming my old job and in a few weeks it will be the "job that I once had". I am one of many LPN's being displaced from emerg by RNs. Oddly I am not upset but kinda relieved. I'm going back to school ASAP and changing careers. I lost 8 lbs during the stress and have managed to keep it off, odd body that I have loves to eat chocolate and sit around to lose weight. Once I figure out what and when I will update you all and hopefully be in a good routine.

emoticon Hello Everyone!

I am so sorry for disappearing for so long. At the end of August everything in my life went into a whirl wind and things are finally beginning to get back to somewhat normal. Without going into extreme details, a major life event that shattered me personally occurred. I lost about 15 lbs in a months period of time due to stress, anxiety, lack of sleep and eating properly. I have gained some of that weight back due to the good 'ol Christmas holiday, but I need to focus on being healthy mind, body and soul now. Too much negativity in my world over the past 4 months and I need to get myself to a better place.

I'm not sure how much I will be on SP, but I know I need it in some shape or form for me to get back on this journey to being healthy.

So, I hope all our members will come out of hiding and join in our team conversations and forums again. Remember, it's not about perfection, it's about trying, creating healthier habits and being able to dust yourself off and move on when you do make a mistake.

I miss SP and hope to be around more often. emoticon Happy New Year! emoticon

Am continuing my streak. Didn't eat great over the weekend, but am back on track today. My body and mind are starting to adjust to the new reality of ellipticalling every day, no matter what, no excuses, its just 10 minutes!

Finally got on my elliptical again. As soon as I got in from work I hopped on, didn't even change my clothes. I figured I wouldn't have the stamina to work up a sweat and I was right. Yikes! 10 minutes and I was finished, my legs were wobbly.

A part of me wants to go gung-ho and go all out, but I know that in a week I will be burned out. Am focusing on the 10 minute a day daily challenge. Going to build the habit and take it from there.

Hi Sam!! my goals are to get to the gym regularly and loose the jiggle in the arms and belly. I hope you feel better soon those headaches are also a bane of my existence, had them last fall and now they are trying to return again. Amytriptaline seems to keep them at bay but I only takeit a few times a week since it makes me sleep in too much. Perhaps a week of good massages is what we need

Hi team!
I have been MIA, but am gearing up for a comeback. The last month of holidays were frightful and I have *gained*!!!! Did not weigh in but my clothes are not pleasing to the eye when I get dressed in the morning. My eating is out of control, the headaches are back and my poor body is so uncomfortable.

Oct. is a new month and hopefully cooler weather. My plan is to set up meal in advance, including dinner.
Get my sleep and bedtime under control, so I can wake up early to exercise.
Get up early to get cardio in. ST will have to be done in the evening.

Any one else have plans or goals for Oct?

Tomorrow is the last day of July. I have a very difficult time comprehending that. When I was a kid summer seemed to last 4-ever! Every year it seems to get shorter and shorter. Although I love the warmer weather, swimming and lazier days (no school schedule), this summer has been a bit challenging for me because I am working part time by training at my bosses house. For now, the hours are unpredictable and that throws a monkey wrench into my workout times some days. I need to get into a better sleep schedule too. I've been staying up later than I should reading and then want to sleep in.

Workouts have been sporadic, but so far I have lost about 5 lbs. By this time I had hoped to have been down by 10 lbs, but I don't see that happening in the next 4 weeks. My eating has been good, then not so good; goes with my stress level and mood, but I am trying to decipher it all.

I'm hoping to see more familiar faces here soon. Kinda like the Sam & Lisa thread for now though emoticon

Hey all! How is summer going? Are you managing to get work outs in during the chaotic and hot summer...?

I am trying once again to set my workouts for first thing in the AM. Was successful on Thursday and this morning too. Yay! so far am managing 15 min on the elliptical with 10 min stretching. Not looking further than that and taking it one day at a time.

At the same time am trying hard to refocus on my intake. I have sunk in to the mentality of "allowing" myself to eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. At first it was because I wasn't well, then it was self-pity, now its just plain ol' laziness and bad habit! The time has come to STOP!!! My food shopping lists have gotten better and I my meals, especially at night are a lot more balanced. Still working on the in between eating that pops up. Sometimes a cookie is in my mouth, getting chewed and swallowed before I realize what I did, lol.
It is work in progress...
Hmm this is almost like a blog, sorry bout that folks.

If anyone stops in here, hope you have a nice day :)

Lisa you are not alone - These exact thoughts were runnin through my head just this morning. I keep wondering why I can't get my act together, or keep it together once i start getting somewhere. Why is it so difficult this time around when i was so successful a few years ago...
Not sure where to begin on trying to figure it out either!

Self-sabotaged the past few weeks myself. A lot of this is so psychological. It's like I play mind games with myself. I get real optimistic, do well for awhile and then something happens (I get off schedule, start to eat too much, go to a birthday party, get lazy again) and BOOM, I'm back to old habits. emoticon

It's easy to post and converse on SparkPeople when everything is going well for you. But when things aren't I think people are down and avoid it. I hope more of our 40 & Fabulous friends come out to check in on our board soon because I know you are all out there. emoticon

Gald to hear you are feeling better. I know what you mean about the exercising. I chose a program that has something 6 out of 7 days and I am exhausted. I figure it will take at lest 2-3 weeks till my body adjusts. 1 week down...

As for eating, I did really well this past week, but now I am just self sabotaging. Don't know why I started or how to stop :(

Thanks for asking Sam. My pain is gone, I am still on amoxicillan and the temporary filling the dentist put in is slowly grinding down. I just hope it stays in until my root canal in a week and a half because my dentist's office is closed next week! The amoxicillan is doing a numbe ron my digestive system and I am taking acidophilus (probiotic) as suggested. Just can't wait for the medicine to be done with!

Exercising is slowly kicking my butt, but I am keeping up with it the best I can. Gotta start somewhere and to get back to where I was before is going to take work! I keep telling myself at least I am trying and NOT throwing in the towel! Looking ahead and not backwards!

Enjoy your weekend everyone! emoticon

Woke up with an abcessed tooth 4am on Thursday morning. Luckily got into the dentist, had them drill a hole in the already deeply filled tooth (already had a filling in it) and they injected medicine into my gums under the tooth. I'm on penicillin, Ibuprofen and Vicodin if necessary. It was VERY important I get this taken care of ASAP because I am a chaperone for my daughter's GS troop this evening into tomorrow. We're going to the Philadelphia Zoo and it is going to be r-a-i-n-y. Anyhow, hoping to resume regular workouts after the trip is over.

Have a good weekend everyone! emoticon

Hi team!

BLC started and its good to have a "reason" to get back on track. Accountability is so important for me especially in the beginning.

I decided to try the TurboFire program as my exercise. Will need to do it in the evenings after work, because I have more time then. Will keep you posted on how things go :)

I know, me too. I keep asking myself why I could do it a few years ago, but can't seem to find that same sweet point in my mind where it all came together and I just did what I had to do?

It IS a mind game, no doubt about that.

That's a GREAT article about willpower Sam!

"what we call "willpower" is actually just a one-two punch of self-control and smart decision–making strategies."

The mind/body connection and planning. This stuff that I know deep down, but fail to do. If I prepared more for the food urges (like pre-planning meals/snacks) I would do better. Planning and creating good habits is what it is all about for me. It is not easy at all, but I think the more you get in a routine of eating healthy and exercising you condition your mind to stay on that path. For me, I stray when I start binging on things I should stay away from (salty and sweet things).

One thing that sticks in my mind is that a few years ago I was doing it! I conditioned myself to workout and was eating healthier. So I should be able to do it again, right? This time though I want to make it a permanent life change and not slip back to the old eating habits.

emoticon for you Sam! I totally know how you're feeling, as I feel like I've been binging for way too long now. I wish there was a secret to stopping cravings, but I don't know of any. Don't beat yourself up about it any more. Every day, every mealtime, is a new start. I'm here with you trying to get back into a healthy routine. We will do this together! In the past I've lost touch with SP and it has taught me that I really need the support system that this site can provide, as long as you make the connections with people. I know I'm probably going to make mistakes on this summer challenge, but I feel it's better to try than do nothing. I have faith in you Sam emoticon

I had an emotional week last week and went on a binge that I can't seem to stop :(
In such a funk and now on top of that disappointed in myself.
Is there anything out there that can help fight the monstrous cravings?

Yesterday was the 1st day I entered all my food into the MyFitnessPal app on my Kindle. I find it much easier to use in comparison to the SP food tracker, so I'm going to use it in place of the SP tracker. I did not go over my 1200 calories, which may be more difficult to do today.

So far I have passed up a donut (230 calories), coconut milk (90 calories per 8 oz), sour cream & onion potato chips (didn't look @ the calories) and probably a few other things that I almost bought at the store, but didn't.

I actually made a special trip to the store this afternoon because we barely had any fruit and I think that is what will help me keep my calories down, along with veggies.

I am still awaiting my team assignment for the BLC and am looking forward to the challenges they set. In comparison to the last BLC I participated in, I am less physically fit. That is a little daunting for me, but all I can do is try my best.

I'm not sure what type of exercise I'm going to get in today. It is HOT as all heck here. Our swimming pool is open, but the water is still pretty cold. I don't know, maybe I will be bold and go in. I'm NOT looking forward to putting on a swimsuit though. Very self conscious this year, more so than I can ever remember being.

Hope more members check in this weekend so we can touch base on where you are at in your healthy lifestyle journey. Wherever you may be, we're here for you! emoticon

Well, I decided to join the BLC22. For now, since I am really just re-starting over, I need somne set challenges in front of me and I know BLC will give me those challenges, even though there may be some that are too hard for me. I'm just going into this with the mentality that I can only do the best that I can and not beat myself up over it!

Hey girls! Sounds like we are on the same roller coaster ride. Motivation is hard to find. I went to the gym twice in the 3 weeks my husband was home (true we went away for a few days and I worked more day shifts but still). I have made it 3 times this week. I was planning to go today but my son took the car to work so I didn't have to take him at 0630. I could walk there but ... think I'll just dig weeds. I woke up in a sweat and it's still burning away, coffee's not helping lol. My motivation this week is the money I spent on laser treatment to help break up the belly fat. I don't want to waste it (haha waist it)..... I am not a morning person either so I go to the gym at 1000 when the classes are over and I can be there almost by myself. I work mostly evening shifts so that is in my favor. When I work day shifts I don't go to the gym since it's open 06- 8 and I work 7 -7. I hope you can find your fit for workouts. I think the important thing is that you find what works for you.

Women are like dragon flies. We spend our lives waiting to become something beautiful only to realize (so late in life) that we already are.

Oh Sam, I am not a morning person either. This morning however, I could not sleep so here I am at 5:23 am on the computer. I just cannot get up and start working out. I've never been a morning person and I don't think I ever will be. This early in the morning probably the only thing I could do is take a walk. When I was single and belonged to a gym, I would go 3-4 x's a week after work. The gym was off one of the exits on the highway on my way home. Nowadays though, I'm struggling to figure out where to fit the workout time in. I truly think I need to sneak in 10 minutes here and there to just get me started because looking at the elliptical I do not feel I can go straight back to the 20-30 miuntes I used to be able to do with no problems.

I have not jump-started my better eating habits or working out like I had planned. Now that the hot and humid weather has arrived here in PA (almost 90 degrees expected here today emoticon ) it is time for shorts and shorter sleeves! I do not like seeing my flabby arms and thighs at all emoticon A few days ago I went to the thrift shop to try to fins some shorts, skirts and shirts. I bought a jean skort, a army green lightweight sports skirt made by Columbia, and a pair of white capri type pants. I do not want to spend gobs of money on clothes that are a size 14/16 (it all depends on the brand as to what size I really am) because I do not want to stay here! At the thrift shop most things are between $3 - $5. I spent $13 on the 3 items I mentioned above. I also bought swim suit shorts online from Wal Mart and a swim top to go with it. The swim shorts fit okay and can be adjusted when I lose weight, but the swim top I may need to add some fabric to the sides where I feel I am 'spilling out' a bit (if you know what I mean!)

Shopping for clothes is something I long ago once enjoyed. Now I loathe it. I want to be able to enjoy it once again and the only way that is going to happen is if I lose all this extra weight.

Well, enough of my ramblings. I hope everyone is having better luck with motivation and exercising.

Good morning!
I must admit that my get up and go has left the building and I got locked inside ;) Waking up at 6 am every morning was ok in the beginning, but I got really exhausted and cranky after a little while. Just couldn't force myself to get out of bed so early to workout.

Not sure what I can do about it apart from going to bed every night at 8 or 9 pm. and that is ridiculous!

Great to see you and others here, Sam! emoticon

I took my 14 yr old dog for a 20 minute walk yesterday afternoon and that was a bit too farm for him. My husband usually walks him after dinner and only a couple of blocks. He slept in the back yard like a baby for the rest of the afternoon. I, however, had to take my youngest daughter to the roller skating rink to meet up with her Daisy Girl Scout troop. This was her 1st time going to roller skating. My older daughter and her friend came along and there was also an older girl there form our church that helped my daughter out a bit. She still wanted me to rent skates so that I could help her though. I'm a bit sore from skating, but had fun. The only thing I had for a snack last night was some baby carrots; they satisfied the 'crunch' craving at the time.

This morning I made a smoothie (my own concoction) with plain yogurt, 1 banana, 3 pieces of fresh frozen peaches, a dash of vanilla, and some orange juice. I drank a full glass and it filled me up. Getting ready to make lunch for my daughter before she goes to Kindergarten. Not sure what I'm going to have. I have to run to the store later to get some more fruit & veggies, but after that I may take a walk or trey to do 10 mins on the elliptical. I know doing 20 mins is going to push me over the edge, so I want to start off slow. I also have to work on drinking more water!

I hope everyone has a good day! emoticon

Hi everyone!

It sure has been quiet around here since the last time I stopped by. Am ready to get down and get serious.
1st step was upping my water intake - done!
2nd step 10 min of elliptical a day - working on it.
3rd step will be refocusing on intake. I eat pretty healthy but still don't have the cravings under control.
It's a plan!

I also did the 10 minute a day exercise challenge and I think I may need to do that again. As you said, it feels like going backwards, but I know I HAVE gone backwards. I'd say May of 2011 I was down about 15 lbs. If I had kept going from then on I could've been at my goal weight by now. But, things happened and now I am back exactly at the weight I started at.

I think I will do the 10-minute challenge! Only way to get back in the game for me.....baby steps!

Have a great day everyone! emoticon

This is such a great topic today! I was doing well through the end of March and then work and other things made me lose my focus. While I haven't gained back, I haven't lost and am too struggling to get back on track.

Love the idea of small changes. I remember when I started I did the 10 minutes a day exercise challenge and built up to more. Similarly, I strived for the 5 fruits and veggies and the 8 glasses of water. After hitting those goals, I slowly worked up to more servings of FVs and more cardio and strength training. Sometimes, it feels like going backwards making those goals again, rather than setting more ambitious goals closer to where I left off. But I did go backwards! So to move forward, the baby steps are needed.

Hope we all have a fabulous flab-u-less spring & summer ;)

It's May already! We're almost 1/2 way through 2013 and if you're like me, my lack of weight loss is depressing me! (I've actually gained, but let's try to keep this on the positive side, kay?)

So, its time to push yourself into gear and make some healthy habits so when December 31st rolls around we can all say that we're LOSERS! emoticon

What are some of your first steps that you're going to take to get yourself motivated to live a healthier life? For me its going to be baby steps this week.

Drink more water, watch what foods I am grabbing for and ask myself 'Why do I want this?', schedule some exercise time in for me and start to find healthier recipes. These are my stepping stones for getting back into Sparking again and hopefully forever!

emoticon What do you plan on doing this month to help you step up your game? emoticon

I'd like to say a big 'ol emoticon to our newest team members. So glad to have you all with us.

I haven't been checking into SP other than trying to remember to stop by to spin the wheel.
I need to get back into the sparking habit because my weight has ballooned back up to where I started. I don't fit into a lot of my Spring/Summer clothes and I do not want to go out and buy bigger sizes. I've got to get back into exercising and eating healthier. I. Have. To.
I'm disappointed in myself, but know that feeling awful isn't going to get me anywhere.

If you see I've been inactive on SP, feel free to stop by my SparkPage and send me some encouragement. I hope to do the same for others here as well. We're all in this together and we need as much support and encouragement as we can get!

Hope to see more activity here soon! emoticon

I haven't trained for the job like I was expecting this week. I'm not sure if the owner is just catching up on things that he hadn't had the chance too or not, but I'm not too concerned right now because I have things I need to do around my house. Although today is pretty much a bust because I woke up with post nasal drip and my head feels like it is in the clouds. I did get to the grocery store this morning for some things I needed and now that my daughter is at Kindergarten for the afternoon, I think I'm just going to rest. I feel so tired.

Anyhow, hoping to get into some type of routine soon with my life! Hope everyone is well!

Sounds like you've had alot going on. Hopefully you find a happy medium soon. I understand the need for new cooking ideas, sometimes you get in a rut. Feel free to look in my recipies if that's doable (I've not tried to look in anyones so not sure how that works). I have mostly things I had made up myself and latley gluten free recepies too. I tend to experiment with my cooking. We eat lots of stir fry around here when my husband is away at work so I have lots of sauces and marinades from Safeway that are great. Good luck with the new job!

I've been logging onto SP to spin he wheel daily, but nothing more than that. Sorry guys, but I've been so unmotivated . To make a long story short near the end of February the man who remodeled out kitchen 2 summers ago attended a trade show. My husband attended the trade show because he is looking into buying a pellet stove. While he was there he spoke to Dave (who has also become a friend now) and he expressed to my husband that he may need to hire help. My husband suggested hiring me. So, I will be training with Dave to help him run his kitchen remodeling business. So far I haven't done much training, but this week I think he has some things planned for me. Also, my husband has been working a lot of overtime hours this week (Tue/Wed, 9a-4pm seminar Sat, and today he'll be putting in a 15 hour day!) There is a sink hole 4 blocks away from our home and also a main sewerline break. My husband is our township's electrician, but he also does a lot of work with his department with the township pump stations. Anyhow, lots of overtime hours leaves me to take care of the kids and home with little to no down time.

I am still trying to figure out how my schedule will work once I do start working from home, so I guess I am a little anxious about it all. I'm very glad that our cold winter is close to ending. Although it was cold, we didn't get much snow and the kids were kinda bummed about that.

I am finally reading the SparkPeople Cookbook. I have it on my Kindle, but I wanted to actually look through a hard copy of it and bookmark the recipes I'd like to try, so I borrowed it from our public library. I desperately need new snack and meal ideas, not just for me, but also for the kids. Hoping to find new stuff in the cookbook and also on the SP Recipes site.

Sorry I haven't been around, just been depressed and dealing with digestive issues. I'm hoping to jumpstart my exercise and eating habits and coming to the team is one way for me to try to get back on track. Hope to see more posts from others here soon too! emoticon

wow my bad I didn't recognise him. If he was training me I would probably be all "but you're so pretty why are you yelling at me?"
I finished my littl box of macadamia nuts yesterday so now I won't be going waay over my fat and cal intakes, they are soo yummy though.
I guess I should submit another JM tip from her book so: Jillian suggests that women do a strength training workout as this will produce more growth hormone. The more muscle we have the higher our metabolism and the more sensitive to insulin our muscles become. And we all want to make sure we are able to use our insulin right? I'm not sure how to use this info for me since I tend to be a low blood sugar girl and my insulin usage is quick quick but i love the way I look in muscle..

wel I made it through my first official ER shifts. What a crazy 4 days, not one was alike. First was fairly quiet, sencond I ended up working the ward pretty ,much by myself, third and fpurth back in ER one was busy the other was a little lighter. I looked after all kinds of people, did some dressings, gave some shots...Over all a good experience. Gonna enjoy my 2 days off. I only have two more weeks and then I'm off for spring break, woohoo, not doing anything exciting but not having to be at work is always a nice change.

We seem to be getting an early spring. its too hot for me though. I like the cooler weather and I pray it doesn't mean a long hot summer!

Getting off a really bad week. Time to shake it off - get back on the ball. Water, water, water!!!

Tracy, counting steps is a thing. Doesn't fall in to the same category of cardio vs. heart rate and burn, but Spark has an option of tracking steps every day. I say heck yeah count it!

Hey Sam. It might be wild conjecture but I do believe some of has to be. It's like putting anything else into a body in my opinion, for good or ill the body has to respond somehow. I'm sure there will be some scientific research published in 10 years telling us how much we were breathing in. Scarey, but ignorance is bliss, kinda like asbestos back in the day.
So on my last blog I said it was too bad i couldn't add the walking I do at work to my workout ount. Someone asked why not? I don't add it because it's not a consistent 20km and I don't break into a sweat. What do you guys think?I could add it to step tracking but it would just beone more thing I have to track.

Well, the hip pain was. New bed was long overdue.

Lisa, how is the elliptical going? I hear its pretty darn cold by you, but you haven't gotten the snow that the north is getting.

Tracy, Do you think that some of the strange illnesses we are seeing is a direct link to that fallout?

Woohoo the pain is gone, That's awesome news Sam! A good bed can make all the difference.
We bought the I Comfort bed a few years ago. Just like the tempurpedic but a little less money (but not much). When looking for a new bed I would rate a bed on how quickly it releived my back pain and it was number one. I still wake up sore some mornings but that's a reflection of what I did the day before.
How's the headache today Getlean? (sorry I forgot your name). I found a new chiropractor and a massage chair made a difference for mine. I've been wondering how much in the next few years we will be affected by the fallout from the Japan tsunami. I have seen more little ones this year come in for croup (and during the day and early evening) than the years previous. I think our little guys are like the 'bird in the mine' warning system.
I have a few days off after my 3 12's so I shall experiment with my sourdough that's been brewing for 4 days and gluten free flour. I made crackers last night after having soup twice at work and really wanting a cracker to go with it. They turned out pretty good and only 16.5 cal per.

Sam, do what you can; don't push it. I hope the surgery next month relieves the pressure on your back and legs.

Today I had a really bad headache so I decided while my 6 yr old was at Kindergarten (other daughter is 10, so she goes to school all day, while the Kindergartener is only a half day) I would just relax and watch a movie. I have tons of movies recorded so I finally got to watch Bridesmaids. It was funny, but not exactly what I was expecting. Tomorrow I have to help out at my Kindergartener's Valentines Party. I guess the principal likes school parties only on Fridays, so they didn't have the parties today. Hoping for no headaches tomorrow.

I guess I am just stuck at the moment...

I have a condition that is causing me some pressure on my back and legs. Am due for surgery next month which should relieve some of the pain.

Am feeling a little better today, have gotten a walk in this morning and will do another one later. My goal is to get back on the elliptical tomorrow.
ST today will be biceps and triceps. Dr. has restricted me on anything else for now...

This week has not started out the way I wanted. I'm experiencing IBS symptoms (bloating, gas, and other symptoms that come with IBS) so motivating myself to work out is not happening. I'm also experiencing back/neck pain. My hubby and I need a new mattress. The one we have isn't that old, but it is too firm. I need to buy new pillows too. I'm hoping tomorrow I feel good enough to at least get on the elliptical.

Trying to look forward and not get discouraged. Last Tuesday my daughter's and I were at the Public Library and I borrowed the Spark and SparkPeople Cookbook (again.) I haven't had a chance to look over them, but I have them for 3 weeks and then I can renew them for another 3 weeks and another. So within that time I should reaquaint myself with Spark.

I'm hoping we all start moving forward soon because Spring is right around the corner. I cannot wait for warmer weather; the dreary winter blues do not help motivate me at all!

what kind of pain are you having Sam? Constant pain makes everything harder. I hope you can find some relief.
I am still feeling weary but that hould go away today hopefully, then I can have a few weeks to feel back to normal levels of awake. Made gluten free pizza dough last night. It was okay, kinda like a biscut but it held together better. I tried bread making but did not like the result so into the trash it went. I will try again until I find a result that I like. Stupid to waste the time and money on something I hardly ever eat though. Maybe I will make a gluten free cake (and sugar free) for valentines and take it to work.

8 hrs sleep sounds yummy!

Its been a difficult week for me, my pain has gotten worse and its so much harder to push when that happens. Heck, its hard to care about getting things done at work when all I want to do is crawl back in to bed!

Anyway, I did make a yummy mushroom soup with beans and coconut milk. And turkey chop suey with kasha noodles. Was able to freeze half of that recipe...

Got 8 hrs sleep last night, woke up just in time to get the garbage out. Got lots of work ahead of me, cleaning up the kitchen and laundry. Then when the boys get up they can do their part (vac and bathroom). Then we can play some games . Already picked up a workload shift for ER on Wed, which is good since I can get reacclimatized to it before my shifts at the end of the month. So much for 4 days off lol

Ooh that is an interesting one. Even complex carbs?

Hope you enjoy your quiet day!

Hey girls. Here's another tip for the book : jillian Micheals says "abosolutly no carbs before bed" She suggests your supper meal be protein and veggies so as to increase grehlin levels at bedtime,so that optimal level of growth hormone is released letting you sleep deeper and more restoratively. I guess the triscuts I ate last night after work were a big nono. lol oh well better eating next time (or no eating at all after working an evening shift).
I am tired today, funny how that night shift from friday night catches up to me a day late. Tomorrow is a holiday here so I can sleep in and finish catching up from an unexpected 14 hour overnight.

Hi all, Its been a while since I checked in. I received a present over the holidays of a few sessions with a personal trainer, used my first one this morning. It was great. Still on the plateau weight and its frustrating. He analyzed my routine and eating habits. I don't eat enough now to support the exercise I do, and I don't strength train enough. That was interesting to learn. Hopefully next time I check back, I could have dropped a few more pounds. Just a little at least.

Today I did not get in any exercise. I was sore from doing those side dumb bell bends, so I knew that those were out. I did not have any motivation. Just tired and dreary. So 2 days in a row I did the elliptical (Mon & Tues.) Maybe my body was telling me to just take a break. Tomorrow will be different. There is a possibility of a snow storm on Friday, so my kids may not have school. Whether or not that happens I am planning on the elliptical on Friday also.

I joined the Seasonal Affective Disorder Spark Team today because I truly believe I have SAD.
(Here is an explanation of SAD: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PM

)
I am hoping to find coping mechanisms to help bring me out of the depressions SAD can put you in. Today was one of those days. No motivation; pure laziness. I hate it because I have so much to do.

Anyhow, tomorrow WILL be better! emoticon

That is a nice tip. I wonder if my osteo appt would qualify? emoticon I usually end up feeling like I could a nice long nap after a session with her.

On another note I have officially move my alarm up 10 min in the morning. Am getting 25-35 min in every day, without feeling time pressure!

lol I jumped off the wagon and pushed it down a hill. I had lost 9 lbs during my 2 month migraine due to the nausea. And then christmas came. So I am back to my original weight. No real guilt this time so apparently I have become resigned to this. Not a good thing really.
So yes I will post tips if you would like. Here's the first Jillian Micheals tip: "get a weekly massage". It lowers anxiety, depression and cortisol while it raises your dopamine and seritonin. Also it helps you with your body image( if someone else touches your body and is comfortable with it why shouldn't you be?) Something to think about...

I started falling slightly off the wagon since July of last year because of my son's graduation party. To save $ we made all the food ourselves. So, of course, there was a lot of trying & tasting & things left over, both from samples & after the party. But I really fell off after Thanksgiving & spiraled out of control from there.
I was very disappointed with myself because I had lost 28 lbs last year, but managed to gain 10 of it back! I've been really making an effort to get it going again.
So, I decided to alter my strategy a bit. I making a goal of 10 lbs at a time. I have ADHD so keeping the goal simple is SO important for me.
My biggest & most important goal is to lose enough weight that I can hopefully not have to use my c-pap machine.

Tracy, welcome back!
I like the sound of your plan. How about you post a tip here every once in a while from the book? I could use a refresher and it will keep you involved?

CNJH4EVER - we all experience hiccups. The best part of being on the journey is that I feel, there are no beginnings or end, just one step after another. Hopefully each one taking us closer to our ultimate goal. From what I have read, even then it doesn't 'end' its just more of being on a healthy journey!

Ok, I have been MIA too long now....not just from this team and SparkPeople but from my life and everything that means anything! I have been doing alot of soul searching and trying to figure out what exactly it is that is keeping me from completing what I begin...I have always said I don't want to fail, if I don't do it, I can't fail it! Silly, I know....but what I am beginning to think the truth is....I am afraid to succeed! Being fat and unhealthy is my handicap, no one expects much from me because of it! People might actually start expecting more from me...I have let fear control me all my life, I am done with that! It is time I triumph over fear and expect more of myself...once I expect more from me, it won't make a difference if anyone else does too! emoticon emoticon

Life is good...

Sam,

I agree, twice IS better than not at all. I don't think it's that I can't do the 20 minutes, it's revving
myself up to go and do it! emoticon I also agree that once I get into a regular exercise habit again, I will get more quality sleep (which I SO need!) Best wishes for this round of BLC! emoticon I need to rev myself into getting small chunks of workout time in before I can commit to something like BLC again. Maybe in the future though!

JuneBug,

Yes, you have company in your misery ( emoticon ) but I am sure many of the members here would like to crawl out of that misery just as we would like to. Baby steps WILL get us there! emoticon It's not just the knowing what to do to get there, it's the actual DOING IT!

All day today I kept thinking "I gotta get on the elliptical." My IBS/digestive isssues have been a problem all day today so I was giving myself a 'pass' from NOT getting on the elliptical. Well, spending some time here on SP gave me the push I needed to get on the elliptical for 20 minutes. Granted, I am just getting back into the swing of things and try to tell myself I am not in the shape I was a little over a year ago. I have to build up to that stamina again. But if I don't start now, when? It's never to late to start. Restart. Re-try. Begin. I just need to be consistent and make it a habit and results will happen.

Everyone has different things currently holding them back. With your work schedule I can see how trying to start an exercise routine would be difficult. Add to that the medication you are on and it throws another monkey wrench into the mix. We all need to figure out when and how we can fit exercise into our day. I always start with the exercise and then try to bring in healthier eating because after you've spent the time to workout, usually I don't want to undo my hard work with eating junk food. (And it has NOT been easy around my house lately with all the Girl Scout cookies we've had here. But I have been very good about NOT eating many!)

It's so great to see conversation here! I hope more members come out to play soon! emoticon

I have done pretty much no working out in January. I would work three 12 hr days and get 2 off and work another 3 and get 2 off. By the time i had more than2 off in a row three weeks had gone by and I was exhuasted. I am on Amytriptaline for my ongoing headaches/photophobia/nausea. It has a side effect of weight gain due to the wonderful desire for sugar it casues. Just what I need. I read the Jillian micheals "Master your metabollism" book and need to get back to the eating routine it suggests. It will take a little getting used to again...meat and veggies for supper, no evening snack that I can recall. Better take a look. A few more days and hubby goes back to work for 5 weeks and I can concentrate on it. Start going to the pool again. Nice to have company in my misery lol

Hey Lisa, well... twice is better than not at all :)

maybe start with 10 min and build from there? probably by week 2 you will be back up to 20 min. and the regular exercising will help the sleeping issues.

I am a few weeks in to the BLC and because of it have finally managed to get back to ST. Still not consistent, but I'll get there! Apart from that I too am looking for new recipes for dinner, lighter stuff as now it seems eating heavy for me in the evening isn't agreeing with my constitution ;)

emoticon Hello Everyone!

February is here and it's the shortest month of the year! I am hoping I can create new, healthy habits this month because I got nowhere in January. Well, I did get on the elliptical twice, but that is not enough.

My main goals this month are:
1. Get on the elliptical 3 x's a week at Beginner Level 1 for 20 minutes each session. I am so out of shape that their is no way I can go back to the 30 minutes on Intermediate level that I had been doing just 1 year ago.

2. Find new recipes and make them!

3. Better sleep habits. Lately I haven't been sleeping well.

So how is everyone else doing? Did you jump start your January or are you trying to start fresh in February? Wherever you're at in your journey I hope you came back to our message board to help you talk about what you are going through, whether good or bad. emoticon

Well, I don't think I am burning enough yet to require more food, but I guess I will need to keep an eye on that!
and start the ST :( can't seem to get motivated with that...

It could be now that your metabolism is revving from doing the exercise, you need to fuel your body with more food. I swtiched my eating to 5 smaller meals a day and that is helping. I eat sensibly every 3 hours and it seems to avoid the hungry all the time feeling.
