I saw on the Dr. OZ show this morning he was mentioning things that help towards losing weight in your 40's. A few things that stuck in my mind were flax seed meal added to some of your favorites like yogurt or cereal whatever you may want to add it to but eating it a few times a day everyday will help with belly fat because the seeds are a natural way to build some estrogen in our bodies because in our 40's and 50's our ovaries slow down on producing it. One other thing he said was eating beans 3-4 times a week help. Eating iron will help. Lifting weights a few times a week. And drinking green tea. I'm sure it's all on his website too.
Hi I wanted to share that my last 5 lbs that I have been working on to get off was helpful by drinking Mate , some oolong and green tea. I use to drink black tea but stopped and switched I really believe that it helps boost your metabolism for sure.
Great article! I'm going to have to go get some Oolong tea. I've never tried it. Has anyone had it before? I love beans so I guess I need to start eating them more often. Here's a recipe for a meal that my family enjoys to help you add more beans to your diet. I've been making this for years & came up w/ the recipe by adding different ingredients each time. It started out just being chicken, salsa, & cheese and evolved from there. I'm a "throw everything in the pan & see how it turns out" type cook!
Chicken with Black Beans and Salsa
3-4 cooked, shredded chicken breasts (I've never tried canned chicken breast but it would probably work) 1-2 cans black beans (reduced sodium if you have them) Jar of salsa (whatever type you like, I use Sam's chunky medium salsa from Walmart. For some reason it's our favorite salsa.) Cumin - to taste Taco seasoning packet if desired 1 cup Quinoa (rinse before adding!!!) - if desired or 1 cup brown rice - if desired 1 cup water only if you're adding quinoa or rice.
You can also add a can of diced tomatoes, chopped green chiles, corn, etc.
Add all ingredients to pan, stir, simmer for 30 minutes or longer. Can be served "burrito" style in whole wheat tortilla shells or eaten by itself. You can top it with low-fat/fat-free shredded cheese & sour cream if desired.
Very yummy way to get in extra veggies, beans, & fiber!
I think I'll make some this weekend. It also freezes well so you can make a double batch & freeze some in a quart or gallon ziploc bag. Let me know if you like it and any changes you make to the recipe so that I can try them!
I read it and it makes sense, of course. I've heard that drinking ice water helps you burn calories, but it was also interesting to get confirmation that you need to build muscle as well. So much to do! :-)
