My kitties love soup broth, but since all of them have digestive issues, I try to keep human food to a minimum.

My cats have great hearing as well. They seem to know the difference when I rustle a bag of something for me and the sound of the cat food bag. Not that they don't try to "talk" me into sharing whatever I have to eat as well. They always think that my food is better than what they have in their bowl. Most of the time when I share, they don't like it and look at me like I am insane for eating it. When I have ice cream, I almost have to fight them off. They love it when I give them their own to share. They are crazy for ice cream, and have little preference for what kind it is! emoticon

Just got a new electric can opener. I had replaced my old one with a manual one a few months ago, but that proved useless when I injured my wrist three weeks ago. I had so much inaccessible food in cans that I decided I'd better get a new motorized one. As soon as I got it set up and was opening a can of green beans, both my kitties interrupted their afternoon naps to come running! I rewarded their enthusiasm by opening a can of tuna and there was much rejoicing all around!

It is not cold here in Texas yet, so no extra kitty cuddles. They did enjoy a full weekend of playing with a lot of empty cardboard boxes. I even made a tower for them out of the boxes and they enjoyed tearing it down! Fun was had by all.

X Files and Netflix sounds prettygood! My cats are loving this cold weather. They are all over me when I go to bed. One on each side makes for a cozy sleep. :) Might have to do some Netflix myself. Badger game not televised, so might watch that on my X box. Tomatoes are calling me to can them as well. Hope everybody has a great weekend!

Happy Mothers Day. Last week I missed my Biggest Loser goal by 15 min. I don't feel bad about it since the DR said that the cool down was very important to me, because of my blood pressure bouncing all over the place. From very high to very low.

Hi Mary Alice and all you cat lovers. Sorry I've been MIA-such is life eh?
I started a new outside job at the beginning of last month so it's been a bit challenging to schedule time to post here let alone exercise. I really like it tho-the job.
I gotta tell ya about my big cat-Tiger. All of my animals are use to me being home for the most part so now that I leave for work-well it's been a challenge for them too.
Wednesday evening a friend came by to walk with me after work. The walk's nothing out of the ordinary-we often do this on Wednesday. Well we get about 3to4 houses down when Tiger comes after us. We try to shoo him and told him to go home. Well then he cries-the most sorrowful cry-long drawn out meows. I called my son on his cell to come out and get him. Awwwwwwwww.

Have you stuck to your plan Mary Alice? That's a lot right there. Whew!

Well take care
Pam :)

Good morning, We went for a beautiful walk this morning. A bright full moon.

I took it easy last night. Tonight is Biggest Loser and I work out hard the full 2 hours. I would love to have you join me. I will do 1 hour on the bike, 30 min weights and 30 min circuit training. But of course you pick yours. Anyone out there to join me?

Good morning. It is a dreary day. I went for my walk this morning. I could tell it was going to rain, but we had a nice walk. When we got about 3/4 a mile from the house it started misting. We got wet enough that Mutt had a good shack when we got home, but I wouldn't say we were wet.

The weather has me down so I put on a sparkly shirt this morning. It might be a little much for the office, but today is jeans day and I am wearing my jeans, besides in this office anything goes.

I saw a show on over weight pets. There ws one guy that had an over weight cat. He had to get the cat to exercise more. Every night he would get out this box of balls and roll them trying to get the cat to chase them. Every night the cat would sit there and look at him as if he was crazy. Then the wife would get a cat toy and wave it in front of the cat. The cat would just look at her and walk away.

Good morning. I hope everyone is having a good one. It was foggy this morning when we went for our walk. My right ankle and knee told me about it. Nothing new there, I understand and can deal with it, but why my left knee and shoulder had to join the party is anyone's guess. I still made 3 miles at a good pace, but the stairs are out today.

I took Riley to his annual check up and he did really good with the shots, I was surprised. The vet did tell me that he had gained too much weight, so I need to put him on diet food. He doesn't seem that big to me, but I did find out that I was overfeeding them. The tech said that they are supposed to eat 1/4 cup of dry food a day, that seems too little. I'll see how that works out.

Good morning. I'm on a 2 day vacation. Freyja is home on her own. She has the run of the house, and a good supply of food at the top of her gym. It is sure alot easier to leave the kitty for 2 days then the dog.

Mom says there was a cat beside my crib when I came home from the hospital and I have had between 1 and 26 cats the rest of my 57 years. Right now I have 1. There have only been 2 that needed help with grooming. Twops the osalot and SpitFire, the cat I had as a teenager. SpitFire spat at every thing and everybody. He would not clean himself, but would sit quietly by the bathroom basin while I sponged him.

In case you are wondering about the 26 cats. When I lived on the farm they wasn't a vet for small animals. We were chicken farmers and mice were a big problem. The neighbors told us to let the cats bread out of control because every 2 years feline distemper would come though and kill most of the cats. That's what we did, but we didn't lose any cats. We thought we were just lucky that year, and gave away most of the cats, but kept several females. 2 years later our neighbors lost most of their cats, but we didn't lose any. Not only that, but non of the cats we had given away died either. Now our cats were in demand.

When I lived in Belize, DS took in an osalot kitten whose mother had been killed by poachers. This little thing was only 2 months old. An osalot nurses for a year and lives with it's mother another year learning to take care of it's self. As the kitten grew we learned that osalots don't clean themselves like the kitties we are use to. Ours would get in the shower with someone when they were soaping up, make figure 8's around their legs to get soapy, go outside and roll in the grass, and get in the shower with the next person to rinse off. Ever had a 40 lb kitten run and jump on you?

I once had a kitten who jumped in the shower with me every chance he got. The first time he did it I had not quite closed the bathroom door. Imagine my surprise when I turned around and saw him sitting in the tub! After that, every time one of us ran the water in the tub Tojo would come flying down the hall hoping to have a shower. How's THAT for crazy?

Good Morning. Looks to be another beautiful day. I took it easy yesterday as planned. I went for my walk this morning and am getting ready to hit it hard when I get off tonight.

I never took a kitty to get groomed, the mutt yes, but never kitty. I bathed a kitten once when momma cat was moving her and dropped her in the soapy water my younger sister was using to blow bubbles. Every time momma kitty tried to clean the kitten she got a mouth full of bubbles

Good morning, all.
I am taking the kitties to the beauty parlour today. Ivory is accustomed, but this will be Taz's first cut. I'm sure he will be traumatized, but Ivory will be there to comfort him and meow him through it. I will leave my camera and ask them to take pics. Maybe I will even be able to figure out how to download the things and post some!

Good Morning. It was warm, but cloudy this morning when we walked. The clouds are going to burn off and the temp will be in the 80's this afternoon. I get my stitches out this afternoon. I hope the DR says the infection is gone.

I was surprised but I only had 3 toddlers yesterday, well four if you count Antonio. He was the only baby and since he is mine he stayed with me and we closed the nursery. All boys, not a pretty little spring dress to be seen. The mothers had tried to dress up the little boys, but you know how that goes with 2 year old boys.

DH had gotten a baseball game for the Wii, but it didn't work, so he took it back. He was afraid to try another one and couldn't find another game he liked, so got me an exercise package. I tried it last night and really liked it. It was the first real workout since I had my tooth out, so started on beginner, but was still worn out after the 20 min workout.

Freyja was a stray living under a house when we got her and we have kept her in the house because of the cyoties. She is a little escape artist. Well she has gone to peeing in the cloths baskets. Clean cloths are best. Yesterday I was taking cloths out of the basket to hang up when she jumped in the basket and squatted. Me sitting right there beside the basket grabbing things. DH says this is her way of telling us she wants to be outside, so with the weather nice we have been leaving the door open and letting her run in and out. We are just making sure she is in at night.

How are you feeling Mary Alice?

Oh absolutely a dog and cat can be best friends! Even family..Our cats and dog are family as far as they're concerned. Strangers are not allowed. And I swear, if a cats picking on our cats you can bet our cats come get the dog to show them the exit. lol

Went for a nice short walk this morn with dh and the dog. Then neighbors came over to visit for a bit.

Have a happy Easter;Passover and Spring emoticon

Good Morning, On Monday I had oral surgery. The Dr said soft food only and no exercise that raises my heart rate. Yesterday afternoon about 3 I ran out energy. This morning it was hard to get out of bed. I have been concentrating on soft food, I put my food in the food thing and it came back that I was low in carbs and way low in protean. The good news those things are fixable and I can start eating more things. Protein is still going to be a problem, so I got some protein powder.

I went for my walk this morning. It was overcast. There was a little hole in the clouds and the moon was shining though.

When I got Mutt, I said he had to get along with cats. Then My cat passed in Aug and I got a kitten. For months the kitten would come up behind the dog and bite his tail and the chase was on. I told DH it wasn't the dogs fault, but a 6 lb cat running though your house is one thing a 60 lb dog is another. I'm glad to say that they have both decided they don't like this game and spend a lot of time proving a cat and dog can be best friends. Mom says that there was a cat beside my bassinet when she brought me home from the hospital. When I lose a kitty, but before the next one, I go nuts. I can tell you a house is not a home with out the little critters.

Wow. Been awhile. Any cat lovers lurking? I got a dog at my feet; big catten just strolled in, no doubt looking to jump the girly cat on my bed. Nope. No hissing. He just curled up on the other side. Dontcha just love 'em? How can anyone live; I mean really l i v e w/o any critters? I know they do and I pretended to when I lived in a apt that didn't allow pets.
All us tenants had a cat. She belonged to everyone of us. When she was over at my place her name was Fuzzy ( No; I admit wasn't the most imaginative name); friends across the way called her Burrito and yet another called her Podunk or something like that. She was a small long hair gray with kitten-like round green eyes. *sigh*
They sure do enrich our lives..

That's so great that you have a cuddler. Wiley was always a cuddler from before we got him, but Exley used to squirm to get down when he was picked up. Now he purrs too when he gets picked up. Thank you for the Spark goodie, Mary Alice.

I've got this cute little girl curled up in my lap, her motor just a going. Hard to believe that in Nov. someone brought me this scared 3 month old kitten that was trying to hide in the back of a large dog carrier. I spent weeks laying on the floor with a can of cat food beside me trying to get her out from under the bed. I'm use to 20 lb cats, this one is 4 and the vet says she migt make 9 when she is full grown. I'm use to cats that sometimes came and sat beside you. This one, if there is a lap, she is on it.

Good luck. Remember that when you use weights you need extra water to keep your joints moving free and to wash the toxins your body releases out of your system. This will help with the pain some people say the get when they start weights. I like cardo before weights. Gets the body warmed up and loose.

Yes, I did just recently start with the weights. I have them from years ago and finally pulled them out of the closet. I haven't done too much with them so far, but this week I plan on increasing because I accepted a challenge to lose 2 lbs this week. Wish me luck! Now it's off to the treadmill and weights!

I took in a 3 month old stay in Nov. She wouldn't come out from under the bed when someone else was in the room for 2 weeks. And it was another couple of weeks before I could pet her. I reminded Freyja of this fact last night when she was chasing her tail, in my lap. How do you put a kitten down when you remember tiring to get her out where you could pet her?

As for your weight. Do you do strength exercises? I'm told that 4 lbs of muscle burns as many calories as jogging 4 miles a day. You can use your own body for weight. If you want weight and don't have dumbbells, try a bag of beans.

Three of my cats play fetch with me, and one is bugging me right now to keep throwing his pipecleaner. But he is so darn cute! How can I not play with him??! The others are jealous that he's getting all of mommy's attention, I think.

As for me, still sticking with the treadmill but not losing weight. Oh well, at least I'm not gaining.

Good morning. I had a good walk last night and this morning. Last night was biggest Loser. Normally I workout hard during the show. Well for an hour and half, then I do yoga to cool down. The 2 weeks I was sick I just watched. Last night I worked out, not hard, but worked out for 1 1/2 hours and then did a cool down. Felt good.

I have kept Freyja in. Until last week we didn't want kittens. Now the vet says we need to keep her from running and jumping. I'm not sure how you keep a 6 month old kitten from running and jumping. Weather is not a problem for us. Next week she will be allowed out during the day, but will have to stay inside at night. We have coyotes, they like kittens, and not as friends.

Just checkin' in with all you cat lovers. How's thangs?

My cattens and dog-have been stayin' in mostly due to the wicked weather we've had and the piles of snow that surrounds our home.
I haven't been on here much due to sporadic power outages.
Good news is I've been eating not so bad food and been hopping on my recumbent bike for exercise. I did a short walk today but was stopped up the street-crews were working on power lines. I saw a cpl trees down and branches.
Still; the heavy snow layered pines and landscape against the rich blue sky~AWESOME

Thanks Pam, I asked the vet. She said as long as it was a little as a treat there was no problem as long as the kitten eat her kitten food. She said she would be more worried it the dog eat the kitten food, but we have the kitten food behind a gate.

Hi MaryAlice-I wasn't sure about your question so I went looking and this is what I found:

Is It Okay To Let My Dog and Cat Eat Each Other's Food?
Do your pets try to eat each other’s food? If so, it’s not a good idea to let your cat eat the dog’s food or your dog eat the cat’s food.
A little dog food now and then probably won’t hurt your feline friend. But a steady diet of dog food could make a cat ill. Cats are strictly carnivores – meat eaters – so they need more protein than they’ll find in kibble that’s meant for omnivorous dogs. Cats also need specific B-complex vitamins and amino acids that aren’t found in dog food.
On the other hand, a dog’s occasional nibble out of a cat’s bowl probably won’t hurt him. But cat foods are high in calories, so a dog that heartily eats cat food could become obese. And obesity is a serious health risk.
So if your pets try to snatch food from one another, keep them separate while they eat.
– Dr. Andrea Looney, DVM for the “Purina® Animal Instincts” Podcast Series

Hope this helps.

So how are all you cat lovers? Good here. Same ol same ol..

Gotta get to work here. TTYL

Good morning. I want you guy thoughts on something. Mutt is a scavenger, so I put his food in one of those toys he rolls around and the food falls out here and there. Freyja, the 5 month old kitten, has gone to trying to take his food, so I started putting a little food down for her after I gave the dog his toy. Mutt eat Taste of the Wild. Does it hurt the little kitten to eat the dogs food. She still gets her cat food, just a few pieces of his food twice a day.

Our (fake) tree will come down today because our 2 kittens can't seem to stay out of it. They've managed to make nests in the limbs, so that alot of the branches have been flattened. (One kitten is rather "chunky".) I'm afraid that they'll get caught in the light strands & get hurt. Our 2 yr old is content to just lay under it & watch as the babies get in trouble!

We have a 4 month old kitten so I didn't put up the big tree this year, just the small tree and decorated it with candy canes. I've redecorated the tree several times. DH got me a WII fit. It said I had gained 3 lbs. I looked down and there is Freyja sitting between my feet as pretty as you please just a purring.

So, how was your holiday? Any catten stories to convey?

Mine "helped" me with all of the wrapping. They made sure the paper was strong enough and the boxes were big enough. They also checked that the ornaments were hung well from the tree. lol

Good morning. I got wore up this morning about 3:30 to an trouble storm. Come walking time (4:30) it had stopped raining, so we went for a walk. We didn't go far, the wind was so strong it blow my off the road a few times. It was 70 at walking time and 56 when I left for work at 6.

It was so wet this morning I couldn't put Mutt in the back yard. I took him for a walk and put him on the porch. We have a stray that had kittens under our house. The kittens are old enough to run around now. I think one of them got on the porch, Mutt tried to play with it and momma put a stop to it. All of a sudden I heard the most terrible noise from Mutt. I ran out to see what the problem was. Mutt couldn't get in the house fast enough, went straight to his crate, licked his paw and wiped him nose. Freyja teases Mutt. Coming up behind him, biting his tail, when he turns around running and when he gets up to her she purrs and makes figure 8's around his feet. They love this game, but I'm not sure about a 60 lb dog racing though the house.

This came from one of my cat pals on Cat Channel, and I just had to post it! How cute, funny and so true! Read it like it's the real poem and sing it like the real song! Hope you enjoy!

Christmas with the Newcomer
(Diane Niemeyer)
'Twas the night after Christmas, the time to replay
The events of that most hectic annual day.
The stockings, once hung by the chimney with care,
Were chewed on and drooled on and torn past repair.

No one was nestled all snug in his bed;
There was spilt milk and Friskies to clean up instead.
And me in my 'kerchief, and Dad in his cap,
Wished we'd settled down for a much-needed nap,

When somewhere downstairs there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chores to see what was the matter.
Away down the steps I flew like a flash,
Just as I heard one more thunderous crash.

The moon wasn't out, so I switched on the light,
Still hoping to see everything was all right,
When, what for my wondering eyes was in store,
But my family-room curtains a-heap on the floor.

I re-hung the drapes, but to end all this "fun,"
I knew in a moment more work must be done.
More rapid than eagles I rushed all around,
To make certain everything was safe and sound.

Out, tinsel! Out, ribbons! Out bright-colored bow!
Out, garland! Out, ivy! Out, all mistletoe!
From the poinsettia plant, to the yarn in the hall,
It's throw away! Throw away! Throw away all!

Next I turned my attention to the Christmas tree,
Making sure it was totally temptation-free.
I moved ornaments up, for 3 feet or so,
And no strand of lights was left dangling low.

When then, in a twinkling, I heard soft and sweet,
The prancing and pawing of four little feet.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
By the chimney this character came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And was covered all over with ashes and soot;
The ears stood straight up on this bold little elf,
And he looked overwhelmingly pleased with himself.

His eyes - how they twinkled! He purred like a glutton!
His tongue, pink and raspy; his nose, like a button!
His droll little tail was drawn up like a bow,
And those whiskers of his looked like yesterday's snow.

I had not a doubt that this bundle of gray
Was the cause of the chaos at our house today.
How proudly he strolled, with what grace and what style,
As he tracked soot and ashes all over the tile.

He was chubby and plump and out to impress,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of the mess.
I scooped up the imp, and I patted his head,
But he seemed to sense he had something to dread;

I spoke not a word, but went straight for the sink,
Where I washed him and dried him, as quick as a wink.
Then he darted away and stopped on a stair,
And giving a nod, he fell sound asleep there.

He dreamt and he kneaded and purred; all the while
I regarded him with half-frown and half-smile.
And you'd hear me exclaim, as I cleaned up our flat,
"I'll remember the Christmas that we got a cat."

Have yourself a meowry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on all doggies will be out of sight.

Have yourself a meowry little Christmas
Eat catnip till you sway
From now on all doggies will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days
Fluffy golden days of fur,
Faithful kitties quite dear to us
Gather near to us and purr

Through the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star - watch us rip it from the bough
And have yourself a meowry little Christmas now

While you are rushing around doing Christmas, when you have a birthday, you get presents. What are you giving Jesus this year? He doesn't want money. Do you knit, you could knit a hat a month for the homeless shelter. Do you play an instrument, you could play for an hour once a month at a nursing home. You could give time at a food bank, mow the yard for a neighbor that can't do it themselves, or for some of you shovel snow. You don't need to tell me. Tell him. He is the only one that needs to know, just remember, he will remember if you keep your promise.

A co-worker is in a lot of pain and needs an operation. I asked him today when the operation was. He said the Dr wouldn't do it till he lost 5 lbs and got his blood pressure down. I told him I thought he had that much water weight. He said yes he was sure he did that's why he quit drinking water. I told him it didn't work that way, that water was like a magnet and pulled the water out and giving up salt would not only help with the weight loss, but the blood pressure too. If we have any newbes out there that don't quite get it, drink you water.

Glad to hear that Pepper is getting better. Many years ago, our cat was sick during the holidays. He was vomiting & was listless. The vet didn't know what was wrong with him, but he was getting extremely dehydrated. We did have an idea later as to the cause - turns out that our Christmas tree stand had a crack in it & leaked out some of the water, which had tree preservative in it. He had been laying under the tree - we thought that maybe he had laid in the liquid & then ingested it when he cleaned himself.

As for Freyja, isn't it so very rewarding to see how cats respond to love & care? She is very lucky to have a caring "mommy".

I picked Freyja up this morning and she curled up in my arms and purred. For those of you that don't know, Freyja is a 4 month old kitten. A month ago she was living under a house with 30 other cats and didn't know anything about humans. About a week ago, she would climb on me when I sat down, but this is the first time she has been happy about being picked up.

My big cat-Tiger (on my page wondering what kind of cat our iguana is)-well; he was extremely sick as a kitten too-came on suddenly. The vet didn't know what it was either. But as you can see he's happy and healthy today.

The little guy is home today. We sure missed him and were worried. His temp is down to 102. He's still kinda quiet but you can tell he's feeling better. The vet doesn't know why he got sick. Maybe he had the flu. Anyway, thanks for all your well wishes. emoticon
