My biggest challenge with the calorie range is calories are secondary to the carb intake that I have to watch. It can be challenging for me to keep the carb intake within what's recommended for me in my attempt to control diabetes and still not go too low with calories. It's definitely a balancing act to try and limit the carbs while also keeping a healthy calorie range.

Although even then, my recommended calorie intake is less (again for diabetic reasons) than what spark recommends. So... by spark standards I always come up short on calories.

MAHOUNEKO, thanks it helps a lot. My problem is like sleep far more better than breakfast. I started eating those special K breakfast bars, but I felt it was too much sugar and carbs so I stopped. I bought a carton of egg beaters, so I'm going to try a quick scrambled egg in the morning.

MSCOWGIRLJJ,

You said you haven't been able to eat anything but coffee in the morning. You might want to try a smoothie with yogurt and fresh fruit, or a something like a yoplait smoothie. If you don't like "breakfast foods you mihgt try something like a sanwich. Peanut butter or turkey and cheese are good choices especially on whole wheat bread.

I have some problems eating breakfast, because I'm not a morning person and can never seem to get up early enough to fix breakfast, so I eat my breakfast on the go. (Which usually translates to when I get to work at 7 AM.) I often have a banana or apple with string cheese, or a muffin and yogurt to start. Then about 10 AM I'll have a snack of a muffin, or nuts and fruit. (Usually around 200 - 300 calories for the morning.) Lunch is then around the same 200 - 300 calories. So I'm at between 400 & 600 calories after lunch. I eat dinner with my husband who gets home around 6:30 PM so I usually have a snack of 100 - 200 calories, more fruit, nuts, cheese (sometimes crackers), popcorn, etc. Dinner is usually between 400 - 600 calories depending on what we had earlier in the day. My range is from 1200 - 1550.

Hope this helps.

Breakfast is not my problem I love breakfast food. But I have a freind who doesn't What she does is have a Ensure or Slimfast drink. It gives her the food she needs to get her body started and it is something she can drink in the morning. But be careful to read the side so you get one which is good for you, rather than empty cals.

Eating to little can stall weight loss. You can calulate how many cals your body needs to maintane your current size, then drop a 5 of the cals to loss weight. Go to http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/calori
e_calculation101.asp you can see just how many cals you should be eating to stay healthy.

Also they say it is best to have a lot of small meals instead of three bigger meals, so try having a snack mid morning, another mid afternoon and one after supper. 100 or so cals. This could help.

I'm trying to eat within 1300 and 1400 daily. I am struggling with breakfast, so far all I can manage is coffee. I am working on that. I eat a very sensible lunch and usually by dinner time, I've only eaten between 300 and 400 calories. I know this isn't good to eat 900 calories at night. And a lot of times when I choose to eat a healthy dinner, I don't meet my minimum range of 1200.

I am open to any suggestions....Help!

I usually sit down in the morning and stick everything that I am going to eat at work into the tracker, and look at how my calories are lining up. If I'm having too many I cut something out, or exchange it for something more healthy, I never know what I'm going to have for supper, so I try and save about 400 for supper time.

If I know I'm going to eat a lot during the day I try and do more exercise to offset it.

So far so good. Trying to stay around 1800-2100 cals a day. Am sure I under estimate at times but as a big girl I need over 3000 to keep this lovely body. At these that is what the math tells me. emoticon

We all have to just work on the calories the best way possible. Today I think I've figured out how the have a "real" fried chicken breast! LOL I've still got to fit in all my veggies and fruits though! Wish me luck! I'm ready to treat myself and eat something that I didn't cook just once!!!!

I've noticed too that when I eat the healthy food that I should and not the junk food, that it's really hard to get up to the minimum number of calories. I had that problem yesterday, so I finally ended up eating a big plate of veggies drizzled with a little bit of olive oil, when I really wanted Doritos.

I have the same problem with eating enough calories Nan. I am also diabetic. I am not on meds at this time although sometimes I think it would be easier to just take the meds. But..

My carb allowance is not quite as high.

I'm currently working on adding more protein into my diet.

I'm trying to stay under 1400 calories. Because of diabetes I'm making sure that I have at least 50 carbs at each meal and trying to get enough protein in too. Got spices to help control sodium. I never realized diabetes was so complicated. I was just going to quit eating white stuff and sweets. But when you are taking medication, it doesn't work that way! Staying within my calories is no problem - eating enough calories is sometime tricky.

Caloriewise, I eat about the same amount for breakfast and evening meal. A little less for lunch, and allow about 250 for snacks.

I don't follow the QUEEN,PRINCESS,PAUPER thing either! Notice that I said "I have heard some people say"! If I had my way, I'd eat like a QUEEN every meal! That's one of the reasons I'm here.

I took my calorie range and divided it up into quarters. 1 quarter each for breakfast, lunch and dinner, then 1 quarter for snacks throughout the day.

Hi, the queen, princess, pauper is a good guide, although I don't follow it myself. My husband like a substantial dinner, so I allocate more there.

My range is 1200 - 1550 so my day usually goes something like this.

Breakfast/morning snack around 200 - 300

Lunch 200-500

Dinner/evening snack the rest. I don't eat after about 7 pm when we finish dinner.

Hope this helps!

I have heard some people say that you should eat like a QUEEN for breakfast,a PRINCESS for lunch, and a PAUPER for supper. It's like the Reverse diet.In the morning, you've been FASTING(Break-FAST),so that's when you need to fuel up.And at night you're getting ready to retire, and you don't want to digest a bunch of food late...that's why they say not to eat after a certain hour(or like 2-3 hr.before bedtime)

Sandy emoticon Good question!

What I've started doing is planning my days in advance. I'm not yet into planning the whole week yet, but I'm getting there. I never thought it would work for me to plan in advance, but it's a little liberating.

Breakfast is usually the same M-F, and lunch, while it may vary, is usually the same for several weeks. Then I think about dinner and program it in. From there, I then program in my snacks, which might also include if I want a treat/dessert in the evening.

So,I guess I'm recommending planning your meals the day before and see if that helps.

Hi Librachica1010

Just check out my food and exercise log. It is found
at the bottom of my spark page. You can see what
I eat on a daily basis.

You can check on others the same way. As long as they share it with everyone. Some do it privately
and don't publish it. I feel that if I share it,
maybe it will help someone else see how they can eat and still lose weight.

I do exercise everyday, except sunday, also.
I was walking when it was light outside early in the morning. Now that it is dark in the early morning
hour, I just stay home and do a work out on the
Gazelle.

Good luck on your weight loss journey.

Just wondering how people plan out their days in terms of calories. Do you save a certain amount for each meal or what? I find that either I don't bank enough and end up eating lettuce for dinner or save too much and end up eating a lot at night before bed, neither of which is ideal. What is a good amount of calories for dinner? How do you know?
