Thanks for your persistence! I have a tremor from one of my "diagnoses". So I'll see if I can put it back up in a blog...Wish me luck!

Sandy,

Must be your computer. I had to type it in myself also because cutting and pasting left a space in the middle of the word Thanksgiving, but when I typed it in, it works.
GREAT site with some really good recipes! Well worth continuing to try to check it out.

Don't stress, it'll be fine! There are a ton of waist-friendly recipes floating around. After all, if your hosting than you get to decide on the food. If they don't like it, someone else will take it over.

For some bizarre reason I've been assigned the Thanksgiving feast for the family. They all pitch in, but it's at my house. I'm single and I really don't like to cook !! This is my third one and am hoping I do a good job and am also hoping they take all the leftovers. My roomate is also a sparkpeople member and I think it would help us both if I don't cook very much SO THERE WON'T BE ANY LEFTOVERS. Maybe I'll get lucky and next year someone else will do it. I haven't even begun to plan it and I'm already stressing out.

My reality is what I make it.

Last year was the first year we did NOT travel - and it was so nice! This year I think my family is coming down which is pretty cool b/c then I have free reign over the food. I'll have my mom make her pumpkin rolls (oh so yummy, better than pumpkin pie and easier to make substitutions) and probably the mashed potatoes. I like the rice idea, I'll probably do that too. That way there is an alternative. Plus, my mom makes potato cakes w/the leftover mashed potatoes breakfast the next day which are great.

wow. good planning. I tend to overindulge for the holiday meal, but keep the rest of my day light. i.e. a muffin, coffee & juice for breakfast and a light snack before the meal. though in the last couple of years I have had only one plate of stuff, which is better.

may have to add my hot pineapple salad to the mix this year.

happy thanksgiving to our Canadian friends! emoticon

You sound like you approached the holiday meal very well. I'm impressed.

Thanksgiving I'm expected to cook everyones favorites, no getting around that. It will be interesting how it plays out, will I eat with them or just not eat as much.

It's not Thanksgiving here yet, but I've done it by myself for years. The one time my parents visited and insisted on the traditional dinner we had when I was at home, I got stuck with all of the leftovers. And, it wasn't a small turkey. I don't care for turkey to this day and ever since then we have done something non-traditional for Christmas (it was the same dinner for both occasions) and those Thanksgivings I travel to the folks house.

In my neck of the states, we do a sweet potato pie when we can; pumpkin if no sweet taters. Love the tart idea. I also like a little Cool Whip or whipped cream with mine.

Hi ARINDANA, it sounds like you have good control over the situation and a good plan, I bet you'll do just fine, that was a good idea about the tarts, I had'nt thought about doing that, it would cut down on the portion size but still give you a nice taste. We are having a potluck after church tomorrow and it will be the first one since joining SP and I am going to try and stick with the most healthy choices I can. Happy Thanksgiving to you. Here in Michigan you'd think we'd be having nice cool fall weather, not, it is 86 here today, I think they said this is the warmest Oct. we've ever had. Good luck this weekend.

Well it's Thanksgiving this weekend in Canada and the challenge is to not overeat and overindulge.

To be honest even though my folks come to visit and it's just the three of us, sometimes it feels like I have more company than that. We went to Kelsey's Friday night after i was done work. I ate half a chicken quesadilla and half the dish of fried pita wedges with warm spinach dip. The rest came home.

And today, we had weiner wraps and pumpkin tarts. Tonight we're having turkey breast with no gravy (much to my consternation - I really don't care for turkey without gravy - it's not one of my favourite meats). We're skipping the bread that we normally have and since we're not having mashed potatoes (winces) and having rice instead...

But my main thought is regarding the tarts. I have to have mom's pumpkin pie. Extremely rich and oh so good. But this year I asked her to make tarts instead of pies.

It helps with storing them more easily in the freezer and have a grab and go dessert and it also keeps portion size down. Tart are a little smaller than a wedge of pie and if I have my way with pumpkin pie it's always a big wedge.

So fellow Canucks who are single but spending it with someone, you can still do it and come out just fine :)
